I like this plug because it works with HomeAssistant, or any other platform. You can control it locally, and don't even need a hub for it to work. I did find it odd it leaves the configuration AP active after you connect it to your regular wifi. HomeAssistant found and configured the device and even updated its firmware. ... show more

    • Bluetooth gateway via Home Assistant!

I was already using one of these to monitor the power usage of a window A/C unit. It's been fine - integrated immediately, works offline, responsive. The case could look a little better, but I'm not too picky about it. What blew my mind is that all Gen 2 Shelly devices, including this plug, effectively work as Bluetooth gateways for Home Assistant (once configured). I was originally using a ZigBee smart plug to monitor a coffee maker, but the Switchbot that I needed to press the brewing button is Bluetooth only. I added a Bluetooth adapter to the HASS server, but the range just made it impossible. Right as I was about to give up I thought about the Bluetooth relay option I saw for some of my other Shelly devices and sure enough after getting the Shelly plug running I can get the Switchbot to work 100% of the time despite having no Bluetooth connection to HASS. ... show more

I use one of these in conjunction with Home Assistant to determine when my wash machine is done. I use the voltage/wattage sensor to determine this. It works very well and if you don't want cloud you don't have to use it. I do not know if it requires cloud to set up but I did use the app initially. Beyond that, I don't use the app at all as its all local API control to Home Assistant. I plan on using these moving forward instead of Kasa. ... show more
