  • Still a beast after 4 years
Color: Gray, Silver, Rose Gold
We've had this vacuum for 4 years now. It's hands down the best vacuum I've ever owned. When I bought it, I remember seeing the most common complaint was that the suction was TOO powerful and that it'd inhale throw rugs, pens, stray socks, small animals, etc. They were not kidding. The motor is very powerful and even after being used daily for 4 years, it still performs like a champ. The strength helps get dirt in corners and crevices that other vacuums simply can't reach or fail to pick up, so over time we've thrown away every other mediocre vacuum we've had and just use this. The bagless design is great and super easy to empty, and you can transform from push mode to hand-held with literally 1 click. The power cord is very long (longer than I'd ever expect), and it's very light when in carry mode making it that more convenient. ... show more

  • Amazing Functionality, Ugly as Heck
Color: Gray, Silver, Rose Gold
I'll start by saying this is an incredible vacuum. We have dogs (two doodles) and thick carpet as well as laminate flooring with area rugs. Before this, we had a cheaper Hoover (under 150$). I felt it was not doing a sufficient job so I started reading up on higher end vacs. I landed on this one after seeing reviews showing this vacuum beating out Dysons and anything else put up against it. They said it was excellent for both carpet and hardwood, and was the best at picking up hair without the beater getting tangled. These were all true, so here are my pros and cons: Pros: -Great suction. The pic shows the reservoir being full...this was from JUST a 12x12 thick carpeted room, 5 MINUTES after vacuuming the same room with my Hoover. -I do not have any issues on our very thick carpet with the vacuum sucking too hard and making it tough to push. I saw some reviews that state that...they likely pushed the button and have the beater turned off so it wont pull itself, or they have it set to the wrong flooring type. This is the main reason I chose this over a Dyson, I have seen far more reviews on Dyson's being very tough to push. -LOVE the maneuverability. You can pop the whole canister off and carry it, or just the top and use the hose attached to the vac. Also very easy to turn and go under tables and stuff. -No fanning. What I mean is that with every other vacuum Ive used, if you were on a hard surface, the beater put out so much air that it just blows all the dust and debris out of the way so you never suck it up. This works awesome on hardwood when you put it in that mode, and only one beater spins to pick up debris. Cons: -This thing is ugly as hell. The engineer that designed the functionality features is a genius. I believe after they designed it, they let a 90 year old lady choose the color scheme. Seriously, why would you have a grey vac, with rose gold touches and a blue roller? If I had shopped in store I wouldn't have even considered a vacuum at this price point with those colors solely based on looks. Dyson's are so much more appealing if you're simply going off looks. -Reservoir size. The reservoir is fricken tiny. If you have a large house or more than one dog, you will either need to vacuum every week or empty the canister a couple times during use. Only the front and top portions of the canister are actually to collect debris, most of it is taken up by the motor. -The cord. Yeah, its super long which is great. But why are we still making cords the EXACT length to where you have to wind it up super loose to attach the plug to another cord. Make it 2" shorter or longer, so annoying. -Wheels. The back wheels are stupid. Theyre tiny plastic wheels that wannabe a dyson ball but aren't. If rolls around like a ball, but when turning one of the wheels lifts off the floor and its like youre kind of lifting the vacuum. I believe their goal was to mimic a Dyson ball without infringing on patents, but it's a cheesy way to do so. As you can see, my cons are slightly petty but still sort of annoying. Luckily, a vacuum isn't particularly for pleasing the eye. Overall this is awesome vacuum in terms of functionality, and I would highly recommend to any friends or family to snag one of these if they can afford it. ... show more

  • Pet hair, sewing threads, dirt, dust ... This handles them all like a champ!
Color: Gray, Silver, Rose Gold
I dropped my original Dyson DC07 Animal vacuum on my tile floor enough times that I've broken several important plastic bits (the latches for the dustbin, for example). So even though my Dyson still works great, it's become awkward to use, and I figured I should see how the technology has advanced in the last couple of decades. I chose this one after being deterred from getting another Dyson by 1) the price, and 2) the negative reviews about the automatic height adjustment making vacuuming feel like leg+core+shoulder day at the gym. Cleaning floors is enough work, so the tools need to make it easier, not harder. Out of the box, the Shark feels nice and light. The weight is balanced well, so I could easily carry it upstairs without it bashing into my legs or putting a strain on my (fairly recently fractured) shoulder. Putting it together was a breeze. The pieces fit logically together and it's obvious where everything goes. Out of box to fully assembled and ready to use? Less than 2 minutes. I should note that my floors are a double threat for any vacuum. I have a dog that sheds enough fur to knit a new dog approximately every 5 minutes. I am also a quilter, so my floors have bits of thread, bits of paper, bits of fabric, and lots of fabric dust. I was intrigued by the reviews that said this vacuum didn't wind hair around the brushes, and I'm happy to tell you that it's not a lie. After vacuuming all of my hardwood floors, including the sewing room, there is no hair at all wound around the brushes. I'm as shocked as you are. Really. The suction is pretty great. You know how pet hair gets stuck around the bottom of your chair legs? This vacuum pulls that right out just when the vacuum head gets near. No more lifting your chairs and grabbing those bits by hand. In combination with the powered lift-away making access a breeze, cleaning around and under the table and other furniture has never been easier. Having the button to switch floor types up on the handle is nice, and the indicator light makes it easy to see which setting you are on. My kitchen has a bunch of area rugs, so I was switching a lot between hard floors and rugs. The area rug setting worked great. No rug corners were sucked into the machine, and the textured rugs were nice and clean in all their nooks and crannies. I'm also really happy with how this vacuum handles dust on the floor. My other vacuum would certainly grab loose dust on the hardwood floor setting, but it didn't really clean the floor as it if had been swept. This one does that beautifully. The headlamp shows the cleaning tracks clearly to highlight this awesomeness. So long swiffer! Emptying the canister was a breeze. There are latches to open both the top and the bottom, so you never have to worry about clumps of hair and dirt being stuck in the corner. After I vacuumed the sewing room, I had some threads and a bit of dog hair wound around the silver cone at the top of the canister. I simply popped open the top latch and lifted them out. They weren't stuck to the cone or anything, just pressed up against it. Easy as pie. (Mmm ... pie). I also need to mention that it's quiet. Much, much quieter than my Dyson, which was unexpected. My dog hates the vacuum with a passion, and he stopped barking at this one after just a minute or so because it just didn't sound that scary. The only time it was loud was when I put the small head attachment on the hose end to clean the pet bed. The sound then is louder and higher pitched, presumably because there's a lot of air being sucked through a smaller space. Still ... overall, it's nice and quiet. I try to write a balanced review, so I'm thinking hard about negatives ... but so far I just don't have any. No retractable cord, maybe? I don't really care about such things, but if it's important to you ... this machine doesn't have one. But ... the winding spot for the cord is on the side and out of the way of everything. You can still remove the canister for emptying if you forget to do it until after you have wound the cord ... so even that's a positive for me. All in all ... two thumbs way, way up. ... show more
