This mattress pad is HOT! I can barely tolerate level 1! (For reference, I like to be warm and usually use a setting of 5.) Took a while to get here. Got it today. Put it in the bed and turned it on. Setting for heat goes up to 10. I put it on 5 and checked it about 15 minutes later. Very warm. Turned it back to 3 to start. Temp controls are easy to use unless you're old and can't see. I don't believe they light up which makes them even harder to see. They do work well. Comfort yet to be determined. It's waterproof so it has plastic on it. Kind of noisy. With a flannel sheet on it will probably help. Pain relief: Don't know yet. I bought this for my mom to help her keep warm. She does have problems with her hips so we'll see if it helps. Seems to be well made and fit mattress pretty good. Not a very thick mattress so not sure how it would fit on a pillow top or some thicker mattresses. Would buy again. I didn't give 5 stars because I just received it and it hasn't been use yet. May do an update later. UPDATE My mom loves it. She said it does help a little with pain. It mostly helps keep her warm and helps her relax (which helps with pain). After a year and a half this thing is worth it's weight in gold. My husband is a paraplegic so staying warm is a must for him. I however don't want to be that warm. I use another water proof protector over this one and I've only had to wash it a few times. But it's held up great.

    • Warm & cozy, but a major design flaw

There's so much to love about this heated mattress pad: Comfort, warmth, controls are easy to work and has several heat levels to select. (Although on my last one, the cloth underneath literally fell apart when I took it off the bed. Luckily it was within the 12 month warranty period, but still a hassle.) Anyway, the major design flaw is that the cord plugs in at the bottom of the mattress pad by your feet. And you want the controls up by your head, right? Presumably on a nightstand or headboard. The cord is a little bit too short to do that without having to monkey around with the cord and stretch it farther than it probably should be for safety. I even tried to flip the pad around to have the plug up toward the head of the mattress instead, but the cord connection is too big & lumpy to have right there by your head. So it's a bit wonky but there's no way around it. I wrestled with different configurations for nearly an hour. I just had to do the best I could. The cord between the mattress pad plug & the control should be another 6-8 inches longer, at least. Ugh. (SERTA: PLEASE PUT SOME MORE THOUGHT INTO THIS DESIGN FOR A MORE PLEASANT USER EXPERIENCE!). ... show more
