  • Seems I actually got a "poor man's" Les Paul Custom
Size: Single Color: Satin Black
I own a Les Paul Custom. It's the only type of guitar I play because I have small hands. The problem is that I don't want to take my LP Custom "on the road" because having it stolen would be a huge loss, so I was looking for a knockoff that would feel like my LP Custom so I could keep practicing when I go on road trips without taking an expensive asset with me and putting it at serious risk. I bought a Jackson Monarkh JS series guitar and it felt great to play, but it came with damage to the headstock, and a built in buzz that I documented in my review of that guitar. After returning the Jackson Manarkh SC JS22 I went looking again and discovered the Sawtooth Heritage Series. These look just like Les Paul Customs! I mean exactly. Same number of knobs and the same knobs too. Identical controls and look! So, I picked a neutral color that I thought I could live with and ordered one. It came in a box within a box, and very well packed. For once, a new guitar purchased on line without being damaged right out of the box! After inspecting the guitar and tuning it, I found that it played almost exactly like my LP Custom, but it seemed the fretboard was just a bit wider. I used calipers to measure the width of the fretboard at the first fret. My LP Custom is 1.7 inches, and this Sawtooth Heritage is 1.75 inches, for a 1/20th of an inch difference. I repeated the measurements several times on each guitar to verify this. So, what I felt was real. Then I plugged it into my amp and all the controls worked fine. No scratchiness or shorting out or looseness. I'm not going to look at the electronics on the inside because I practice with the guitar unplugged, and it will be once in a blue moon when or if I ever play it plugged in for anyone other than myself. Also, I don't geek out over pickups, so other reviews will have to cover that. But I'm happy now that I have a genuine Les Paul Custom look alike, work alike, and almost feel alike guitar at a very reasonable price. Just amazing. Oh, and the black finish is matte black, so it's not a like a "black beauty" Les Paul Custom, but it looks great for what it is. ... show more

  • Great guitar but...
Size: Single Color: Left-Handed Satin Black
Let me start by saying, I love this guitar. It sounds good, it looks good, and it's left handed. That said, out of the box it had a wiring issue on the tone switch. There is a warranty, but I'm too impatient to send it back so I'm just gonna go get that repaired myself.

  • Tone for days! Great bones for unbelievable price!
I got the kit and I'm happy with the purchase. But, they shipped a completely defective broken unit the 2nd time I ordered. Also they didn't ship[ any of the kit pieces. I'm convinced it was intentional. Because they raised the price after I ordered it. Didn't ship it for 10 days after I ordered it and stated they had many in stock. Missed the ship date, then shipping delays. Literally no reasonable tracking. No photo of where the driver delivered it too either. I'm a veteran player for about 30 years. I repair and setup guitars for people when I have the time. Right away, I could feel the quality of the wood and the tone of it overall. I know to give it time to acclimate to room temps again. The tuners needed some tweaking on how loose or tight the fastening nuts were. It's been in freezing shipping temps for a week. I'm giving it and the wood time to settle in. The strings are garbage. Overall for a beginner, intermediate or veteran, I thought people will enjoy this guitar for the money. It's addicting to play. I officially nick named the first one my Bat Guitar! The 2nd one shipped in White was not white at all it was an ugly ugly ugly almost butterscotch shade. Again the "pink chrome" being passed off as gold hardware bridge and tailpiece and doesn't match the pickups great gold finish. The "white yuck" guitar pickups didn't work at all. The toggle switch was busted off in the packaging. Packaging was incompetent to say the least. I could see all of the dents inside the box where the toggle switch was bashed until it broke. I've played on and owned Gibson and Epiphone Les Paul's in my life. You would be hard pressed to find a difference in playability and feel. Pros: The feel of both guitars was a good solid guitar. Great pickups! (Adjust the height if they are too bright, back them off from the strings.) Came tuned, even from shipping temperature fluctuations! Intonation bridge seems to be already set pretty good from the company. The white bindings are very much brighter and more appealing than the pictures! I wasn't sure about the flat black, but upon arrival, I love it! The contrast between the flat black and stark white is excellent! I immediately tested it for clean and crunch and blues sounds. All perfect. The pickups and other hardware a very pleasing gold. Cons: 1st shipment of the black one in a kit form had some minor dust debris spots in the paint on the back of the neck. I buffed that out. The 2nd order yucko white thing was busted up and missing all of the kit parts completely. The gold hardware isn't a perfect match. The tuning keys are more copper orange. The bridge and tailpiece were an ugly "pink chrome" on both guitars that clearly looked awful next to the nice pickups. These are a deal breaker. I'm playing this thing. Not putting it on display in a glass case. But after a few days I couldn't stand looking at the mismatched color anymore. I hated it. After the 2nd order was intentionally shipped so badly I requested a refund. I will not buy a Sawtooth again and advise people to stay away from such a bunch of miserable people. Bad karma to ship garbage and lie to people in orders. ... show more

  • Great guitar
Size: Single Color: Left-Handed Satin Black
Great value. It’s slightly heavy but well made. Very good looking guitar and sounds great hooked up to the fender mustangs. No fret buzz, could use slight adjustments just for my preference. I would buy again. Keep in mind, you’re not getting a high end name brand but rather a well made, great value guitar that you will love playing. ... show more

  • Great playing guitar
Size: Kit 1 Color: Antique White
Out of the box, tuned to pitch, lowered the action 3/32nds and it plays like butter. Sound is great, pickups are exactly what you would want to get a multitude of tone (no microphonic issues at all). The ONLY negative thing I can say is the guitar is not "antique white" - it's yellow. Yellow yellow. I will probably take the paint off of the neck, but that is just personal preference and does not take away from the playability. For the money, you will be hard pressed to find anything close. I would recommend to anyone... this things plays great. ... show more

  • Punches well above it's weight class
Size: Kit 1 Color: Antique White
This is my second Sawtooth guitar. I received it today and have been playing it all afternoon, and I can't praise it enough. It's great. Simple as that. Solidly built, good sounding guitar...good cable and gig bag.....Even the strings that came on it are great. Plays brilliantly right out of the box, no setup at all needed. Just tune it up and play. And they got it to me fast...on the fourth day after I ordered it...and UPS was closed on Thanksgiving so that's really 3 business days. I really don't know how Sawtooth does it...Guitars this good *AND* this affordable? Just buy one already. You won't be disappointed. Don't forget to register your warranty. ... show more
