This is the second RUN CHICKEN automatic door I have, the first is a standard sized door for my chicken coop. This XL size is for a duck/goose pen and it is proving to be just as reliable as the standard. Both doors install easily but instructions MUST be followed for correct function. Take your time on this. My coops are at an off-grid cabin site surrounded by woods filled with predators; any bird outside after dark won’t be there come morning. These doors look good and function perfectly with very little maintenance. This XL door is a bit overpriced I think, but reliability of the unit is outstanding and I highly recommend this product. ... show more

    • Almost but not quite 5 stars
Let me preface this review with the statement "I do NOT order items that I do not intend to use myself. That said; This is so close to 5 stars EXCEPT for a couple of items. First, it is almost TOO well crafted. By that I mean there is little "wiggle" room. The instructions are clear "DO NOT WARP" the frame, and they mean it. Any warp and the door will NOT move period. There is not a coop out there made to zero warp on any wall. Also I live in snow country and I am willing to bet you lunch that this door is going to freeze tight. I plan on adding a piece of brush seal to the top so that snow/ice might be kept out of the top gap, we will see. They also tell you NOT to "grease" the rails. This IS a true statement BUT, you WILL want to at minimum spray some WD40, I much prefer motorcycle chain lube, as it is a great lubricant that does NOT attract dirt. Last item is the "battery only" operation, knew this going in, I question battery life when it has to overcome dust and or ice accumulation, we'll see. I, while it might not seem like it, do like this door. It is a product that I would recommend bearing in mind it might have an issue given the right conditions. ... show more

    • Perfect for the coop!
The media could not be loaded. Expensive, but worth it. Has been reliable so far. We love the smaller door we had on another coop—it has lasted well over a year. Was a no brainer to pick up this one for the turkeys. Everyone loves it and the door keeps the littles safe overnight.

Door is great. Easy to install. Chicken duck and geese get in and out with no problem. I only had this for a month and batteries died. Hope this don’t become a problem that I have to change batteries all the time!

We have the chicken doors and actually didn't know they also had those gigantic ones for turkeys. This is absolutely the best brand out there. You are not required to download an app on your phone to be able to use them, though you can. They automatically close after dark and open in the morning. This door is fantastic. Our turkeys have been getting nosey when it came to our chicken coop (probably because it's getting colder out and the coop has a heater in it). Well they definitely were not getting through our typical size chicken doors. This was great. My turkey grew up with the chickens but pretty soon, he would have been too big for the automatic door I currently have so this very large nice door is going to be great. Pros: Great for larger birds of all types. Automatic programmed setting work just fine or you can follow directions to have it open and close at your designated times. Installation was just as quick and easy as my other doors (but you better have a big wall to install on). Included four AA name brand batteries. Cons: The price (over 300 bucks at the time of this review) is quite hefty. For this price, I would have expected this unit to have solar technology for charging included like my other doors have. There is no display so you’ll have to read and follow the directions or watch the videos you can find once you download the app as everything is controlled by the one and only button on the door. No remote control like other doors but instead it has an app. All in all, it’s been working for a few days without any issues and I’d like to give it at five stars but in my honest opinion, for this hefty of a price, it really needs to have included the updated features of other doors such as the solar charging, remote and a display you can read for easier programming ... show more

. Larger door. Good quality and materials. Installation is straight forward. Take some care that everything is straight with no 'kink' in the rails for the door to move freely. I like the larger door overall. It has a safety feature similar to an elevator door - will stop if something obstructs it from closing. It will reopen and try again.
