The Rowenta steamer heats up quickly and is ready to steam more quickly than my iron. It got most of the deep wrinkles out of a white cotton dress shirt in a short period of time, as well as a pair of dress pants that had a crease from the hanger. I have another no name brand steamer that I absolutely love so l was very excited to try a known brand steamer to compare, thinking it would be a big step up in bells and whistles or what have you. Surprisingly, while this steamer is good, and gets the job done relatively well, I don't think it is any better than the other one I have been using. I only used distilled water in the other steamer, but this one says it is fine to use untreated tap water. I can barely read the instruction manual's ultra fine print with my readers on, but it says if your water is unusually hard, to do 50/50 tap and distilled water. The water hole is so tiny so while it is easy to fill directly from a faucet, it is trickier for me to try to pour in some distilled water from the big jug I use for my other steamer. I did notice a very strong chemical/plastic smell after the first couple of uses, but the instruction manual says this is normal and is not harmful... It seems like this steams pretty well, but I don't know, I definitely still had to go over and over certain areas on some especially wrinkled khakis that were coming straight out of my dryer. It improved the wrinkles, but didn't eliminate them completely. My other steamer has an automatic shut off after a certain period of time as do most irons and similar products these days so I was shocked to find that the blue light was still on and the steamer was as hot as ever HOURS later because I just assumed it would turn off...WHOOPS, that was a big mistake on my part. So please be aware, you have to manually turn this off--not sure why they wouldn't have an automatic shut-off feature in this day and age. ... show more

First of all, Rowenta steamers are great to begin with so when purchasing one you know the quality is almost guarantee. This one is no different from its fellow brethren, though this model is perfect for a certain situation. Traveling. This is because it's smaller than other models, and lightweight as well. Because of this factor, traveling is best suited for it. If you need a steamer for household chores and stronger use then I would suggest you get Rowenta's X-Cel Steamer Force. This one is perfect for those type of duties. The difference between the two is that the Steamer Force has a toggle mechanic for its trigger, which allows endless steaming. It alleviates your fingers from the constant squeezing. It also has a bigger water tank size, and it offers two steam levels (delicate setting). This Rowenta steamer (X-cel Easy Steam) comes with NO ATTACHMENTS unlike the other models. If you do have attachments, then this model is outfitted to attach to those pieces. The one thing nice about this steamer besides its lightness is that it produces such steady billowy clouds of steam. A testament to the Rowenta namesake. ... show more

I hate to iron. Having a handheld anti-wrinkle steamer was a dream I used to have when I worked and had to look good for conferences. Now that I'm retired, I didn't think I'd have to worry about it. But, it turns out I get invited out sometimes and it would be nice if my dress slacks weren't so wrinkled. So I jumped at the chance to try this Handheld Steamer for clothes. I have some dress slacks that are wrinkled from the knees down. I followed all the instructions, got lots of nice, hot steam and applied it as the instructions described, until the water ran out. They're still wrinkled. I thought, "maybe now that they're nice and damp the wrinkles will fall out in a few hours." No. So, there's no lazy way to iron. Or, just do what I do and go wrinkled and those people who don't like it can jump in a lake. I'm giving it 4 stars because it heats up, operates exactly as described, throwing out lots of hot steam. It just doesn't unwrinkle my dress slacks. Oh, and one other little thing: The description talks about attachments. This particular model didn't come with any attachments. Like a thing you use to hang your clothes (but a hanger works) a thing that focuses the steam, and a brush. Nope, none of that. Rowenta is a German company known for their impressive array of irons. I've owned three of those devices and can attest to the high performance, even from their lower cost irons made in Asia. My wife has used - and struggled with - a steamer from another brand. When I saw this Rowenta steamer at a extremely reasonable price I ordered it for her, knowing that it would likely be an improvement. The Rowenta has been a true game-changer for her. It provides strong, controlled steam and is comfortable to hold and use. Her favorite feature is the button which allows her to release and block the steam, which reduces overall water usage and the need to refill. The water capacity is quite adequate and there's absolutely no leakage. The cord is about 8 feet long, which allows full movement when using is wonderful for a steamer at this price range. Life is too short to spend time fighting with poorly performing appliances - this Rowenta steamer makes life easier at a very reasonable cost! ... show more
