I got this based off a review from a crochet you tuber for blocking purposes. Its works great if you hold it upright. However if you are holding horizontal over your project, it doesn't maintain the steam and has a very noticeable knocking sound/vibration (seems due to it having to work harder to get the water). I never heard that in the you tuber videos so not sure if they block the noise out or if there has been a design change some how, as hers seemed to be able to maintain the steam when over her project. Thats the only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5. If you are using it for normal steaming of a hanging garment, the i imagine it would be wonderful to have for travel or even at home. ... show more

This worked great at home, its very awkward though. (I ordered a different style after this one died and I like it much better). Not for travel outside of the US We bought this to bring with us to Portugal. Neither of us realized the outlets are almost double the voltage that they are here (US is 120V, Portugal is 230V). As soon as we plugged it in in Portugal and turned it on it, was basically fried, obviously with the US to Portugal outlet converter (type B to type C converter). We threw it away there so it was one less thing to bring home. (Also, Iberia airlines, (which suck btw, honestly never fly withthem, the first day of our trip was ruined) don't have a luggage weight limit like the US does, my bag was 56 lbs and I never had to pay the overweight fee) ... show more

I bought this to replace a Shark brand steamer that is no longer in production so I couldn't get another. The Shark lasted about 8 years and I really liked it so I wanted something that could live up to it's performance. I was a little leery of this model because it is significantly smaller than my old Shark and I wasn't sure that the build quality and performance could be matched in such a small package. A perk of being smaller is that it's boiling chamber is a lot smaller so it heats up a lot faster. From plugging it in and turning it on, it's ready for steam in less than 60 seconds. There are a few things I don't like as much and a some that I prefer in this model. Things I like better: As already stated, it heats up very quickly. I like that there is a trigger lock to keep the steam going without holding the trigger down. Things I preferred in my older unit: Auto-off. This unit does go into a sort of sleep mode if left still for a period of time but my old unit would fully turn off and I preferred that. Built in water reservoir. This unit has a removable water reservoir and while that sounds convenient, it's very small and inconvenient to remove, open the stopper, hold the stopper out of the way while filling, replace the stopper, then re-insert the reservoir into the unit. I preferred pouring water directly into the unit. Heated "pressing bar" above the steam ports. This unit does have a metal plate where the steam ports are but you can't really use it to press with or you will get water streaks in your clothes. Things I don't like: The attachments. None of the attachments are very effective. They all seem very gimmicky and not very useful. I usually keep the brush attachment on just to prevent touching the steamer directly to the clothes to avoid getting them wet (I often use the steamer to refresh a shirt just before leaving the house). The power button. I prefer a power switch where I can see if it is turned on or off by looking at the position of the switch. This unit has a push-on, push-off style button that you can't tell it's position by looking at it. It does have lights to indicate if it's powered or not but I still prefer a rocker style switch. Overall, I like it but the jury is still out on the reliability/longevity. We'll have to wait and see. ... show more

This was recommended on a knitting website article about steam blocking acrylic. I had a small cheaper steamer that did not work well on horizontal items on a blocking mat, and this one was described as built for that purpose, so I purchased. This does in fact work great for horizontal steaming, and I love the auto-on button, so that my hand does not cramp up while slowly working thru my hexagons. Added photos showing the items on the blocking mat, and a before/after of how they look after steam blocking. The water reservoir was large enough to handle four batches of 4 hexagons before needing a refill, and the steam was produced with very little wait time. I bought this for keeping delicate wedding clothing wrinkle-free, and it did not disappoint! I had read reviews for other steamers with people being burned when scalding water came out while using them. I was so glad to find this one. It kept me safe at any angle. Zero leaks! It worked as a steamer should and our clothes looked great. We used the sleeve attachment to keep the pressed folds looking sharp and the brush attachment to help steady the fabric while being steamed. I wish I would have bought this years ago! ... show more

For context, I bought this to replace a bulky fabric steamer with a hose which started leaking. This is a huge improvement. It's small, lightweight and highly effective. It has an LED on/off button which is easy to use and makes it obvious when it is on. The tank is easy to fill, and it heats up and produces steam quickly, unlike the old model which took several minutes. It produces enough steam to work on several large pieces before the tank needs to be refilled. It also comes with several attachments which might be useful in certain circumstances.
