Description

The Rockwell BladeRunner X2 Portable Tabletop Saw is the solution to the problem of having to take materials back to the workshop to cut them, and then bring them back to the job site later on. If you’re a contractor, you know that that process can add an entire day to a project. The BladeRunner is only 15 lbs, so while stable and sturdy, it’s easy to toss in the back of the truck. And with a footprint of only 15.75” x 17”, it doesn’t take up an entire workbench like traditional table saws. The hold-down guard and splitter allow for work with wider materials, and a larger rip fence than other portable table saws provides better control and accurate cuts. A no-load speed of 3000/min, a stroke length of ¾”, with 5.5 amps of power gives it the capacity for light to moderate cutting of wood (up to 1-1/2”), ceramic tile (3/8”), PVC pipe (1-1/4”), aluminum (3/8”), and steel (1/8”). (Anything over 1-1/2” and you’re probably going to need a traditional, permanently fixed tabletop saw—but you can’t take that to the job site.) The blades change out almost instantly, in under 3 seconds once you get the hang of the tool-less blade change system. And the saw is protected by a Rockwell 3-year limited warranty, so you know they stand behind their tools.

    • Great multi-purpose saw that performs cross, rip, mitre, and scroll cuts admirably!
This is a fantastic, portable multi-purpose saw table. While it's obviously not a real table saw with a circular blade and doesn't have the advantages and total accuracy of a true table saw, it is far safer and infinitely more portable. Despite some complaints from other users, I have found it quite easy to make straight, accurate cuts. The fence and mitre both work well when properly set and used. I wrapped my mitre slide with a little bit of masking tape to reduce slop, and find it best to clamp the workpiece to the mitre to further reduce chatter and slop. When utilizing proper technique and quality blades--I recommend Festool brand--tear-out is non-existent and I get highly accurate cuts. I was able to reduce a 5/8"x5.5"x6' cedar fence board into a birdhouse in about 5 minutes of total cut time--made a great gift for my mother! I haven't given it much of a run as a scroll/jig saw, but I did a couple of free-hand curved cuts just for kicks and was able to get pretty decent results. I have also experimented with cutting a nominal pine 2"x4" (actual about 1.5"x3.5") and had no problems making the cut with a little patience. I haven't had the opportunity nor the need to try cutting metal, tile, or laminate but with quality blades I'm sure those would cut just fine. Tighten everything down (clamp to bench or other surface, tighten arm and blade guard fully) and let the saw do the work (don't rush it or push too hard) and you should find this a very versatile and functional tool. I would further suggest "whiting-out" (or "whatever-other-coloring-out") the tabletop ruler and guidelines by spreading some acrylic paint over the plastic surface tabletop with a sponge brush or paper towel (remove the red plastic insert near the blade first to avoid any chance of affecting the color of that piece of plastic) and wiping away the excess paint with a damp cloth or paper towel. The resulting effect will be clearly demarcated lines and increments that may help you achieve more accurate cuts. I did the same with the miter gauge, and it made it much easier to make accurate cuts without straining to see the markings. ... show more

    • Handy little table saw
This is actually a pretty sweet little tool to have around the house. I purchased it mainly when I was installing laminate flooring in my house - I have installed several laminate floors previously and found that using a jig saw for straight cuts wasn't very optimal so, I thought this little saw might come in handy. For $119, it's good value. I purchased special blades for laminate and the Blade Runner cut right though the flooring with ease. It actually holds the material in place surprisingly well and, even while making cuts in the middle of the 48" boards, it held them nicely in place and neither piece, keeping the final portion of the cut nice and straight. I also used it for 60 degree miter cuts for the laminate and 45 degree cuts for T-Molding - all worked perfectly. The miter gauge doesn't feel like it mounts solidly on to the table but, it does the job just fine. The main cons I found with the tool is the cutting fence - even though it's held in place quite firmly, it's very difficult and time consuming to make long rip cuts as the blade bends and flexes. For the longer rip cuts I used a DeWalt 20V Jig Saw as I found it easier and quite a bit quicker. The other con is connection for the Shop Vac - while it comes in very handy (it sucks up the dust so you can see your cut line) it doesn't attach very firmly. A little tape solved that pretty quickly though. All in all, well worth the money and I'm sure I will find many uses for it in the future. ... show more

    • Very useful for many types of cuts
This is a very handy addition to a set of electric saws designed for various purposes. It is great for cutting small wooden (and probably aluminum) parts in a straight line or curve. My first use was to cut a 6 inch circle in a 3/4 inch board. I started with a pencilled circle and followed it around. I was amazed at how perfect the cut was. I suggest ear plugs and goggles. There is vibration, but it is tolerable. Overall, it is well contructed. This is basically a jig saw mounted up-side-down. In fact a few years ago I actually did this: took my powerful jig saw and attached it up-side-down to a table. It worked well,, but the vibration was too great. On the other hand, a tool like the blade runner was designed to be used in this way and so the vibes could be greatly reduced. BUT... it is a jig saw with a blade that can bend, and that is why guides are of limited use. So the trick is to draw an accurate line and carefully follow it as you cut, and you may need to periodically backup a little to get on track. If you need to cut very long straight lines, you might want to use a table saw or hand circular saw. ... show more

    • Can’t beat the price and gets the job done!
Love this! Can’t beat the price, weight, and ease of use. I did a DIY basement renovation and used this to cut laminate flooring. Couple of things... it’s cheap and does the job but, you have to guide the pieces your cutting precisely. The guides aren’t much use with cutting planks. So a lot is left to your hand to make straight. I drew lines on the wood to make sure I followed the right cut. But for the price and how much it saved me laying the floor myself, it was worth the effort and a couple messed up planks in the trash. It’s light so that was a problem sometimes as the whole unit would move as I was trying to cut something. So finding a way to secure it down helps you make more accurate cuts. It also allowed me to do custom cuts if I took the guard off it and just used it as and open blade. Though, that’s dangerous and not recommended in the manual so use caution. For cutting down long planks, it’s annoying when you get to the bracket that holds the blade in place but if your cut is straight the plank splits perfectly fine at that point since it’s not too wide and you can keep cutting all the way down the length of the piece.
