I drive a single cab pickup, so a slim sub/amp combo is ideal for me. In my opinion it's perfect for a pickup if you want to go with the slim sub/amp combo. Now.. if this was put into the trunk of a regular car it probably won't be enough. In an open back-to-trunk style small suv or jeep it will be much better than in the trunk of a car. It sounds loud enough in the cab that I thought it would be noticeable from the outside, but it is very minimal sound from outside. It sounds really good for $130. I also have upgraded my door speakers which helps but still I'm very satisfied with this sub and I love having the separate wired bass controller. There are many other similar options for a little cheaper, but I went with rockville because they seem to be a more established company(they all comes from overseas. But I did watch some positive reviews about this unit in particular). Still.. be mindful this sub will not rattle your car or produce extreme bass. However, it does produce more than I was expecting and it sounds good. I didn't even adjust any of the sound setting knobs so it possibly could sound even better/a bit louder if I tune it. Also, I would advise buying a separate wiring kit to install it. The one I used is by Scocshe that was $8.99 and well worth it. I used the 12 gauge wiring kit ... show more

    • Fantastic Bass Improvement for Little Money

I just installed this Rockville 10" powered under seat sub in my 2023 Hyundai Palisade with the factory Harmon Kardon premium audio under the driver's seat. The enclosure and build quality seems excellent for the price. For the money spent on the sub and amp wiring kit, it sounds fantastic! I would say the increase in bass improvement is right at between a basic car audio system lacking bass response and a separate 12" sub/amp combo in the back of a vehicle. It simply doesn't move the air, reach below 40hz as efficiently, or have the SPL a separate larger sub/amp setup does. But for what it does, it will improve the low end of any car that doesn't already have an efficient factory subwoofer. I'm saying this comparing our Palisade with our Tesla Model 3, both with premium factory audio. The Tesla factory subwoofer is a ported 8" sub, and sounds fantastic for what it is and doesn't really warrant the need for this under seat aub. However, the Palisade factory sealed 8" subwoofer leaves a lot to be desired. In the Palisade, or likely any larger SUV, this under seat sub would be a very worthwhile upgrade at a bargain price to increase the lacking low end extension by getting that range to the front of the vehicle. ... show more

    • 10" Sub..Sounds Great!! If adjusted properly.

Firstly, I used 4 gauge wire for the power and ground on this unit. I could have used 8 gauge but i didn't want any possibility of voltage drop or heat to be generated. Also, since my 2013 Kia Optima stock radio had no RCA hookups in the back, I installed a "Kicker 46KISLOC2 Speaker Wire-to-RCA Line-Out Converter w/LOC+12v Turn on Lead" to make the install easier, although the package does include connections for a radio with no RCA output. I ran an aftermarket wiring kit's supplied speaker wire (I mention which kit in a moment) all the way to under my seat to connect to the RCA Converter because in case a set of RCA cables go bad, it's easier to replace instead of taking the radio back out. Plus, the distance from plugging the RCA's from the Converter to the amp was a matter of inches. To connect to the factory speaker wiring, I used Scotchloks and tapped into the rear speaker wires. I bought the wiring kit with everything needed, including speaker wire, power wire, connections and RCA cables. "DS18 AK4 Complete 4 Gauge CCA Amplifier Installation Wiring Kit" Once everything was connected, I turned it on and immediate noticed the bass volume increase. The Subwoofer seemed to be distorted at low volume and I was unimpressed initially. I then took the time to set my "LPF" low pass frequency cutoff to as high as it would go..(I wanted the highest frequencies to be audible through the sub initially and it ended up being a good choice for my install. I've since adjusted the LPF to about 120hz. All reproduced frequencies sounded clear. The LPF is tunable from 40hz - 150hz max.) My gain is set to about 1/4 of the way up (3-4db) to match my stock components volume at near max volume. Bass Boost is something that made a big difference. Too much and it "farts". I set mine to a little less than half way. Also, I played with the phase button. Acoustically in my car, 180° activated seemed to make a big difference. Let me tell you..I am thoroughly impressed with the volume and sound of the Sub. I play every music style you can imagine from 90's hip hop, to Hard Rock, 80's, Jazz, Reggae, Metal and Classical. I spent a lot of time FINE tuning the "built in" amp and Small adjustments go a long way. Take your time and make those adjustments and you will be very happy. Just to note, I'm in my mid 40's and grew up installing stereo systems in my own jeeps, friends cars and trucks too. I have had systems with Orion XTR DVC 12" subs in a bandpass box to my most recent (2) 12" JL AUDIO 12w3 d4s in a ported box with Kenwood Excelon component speakers. No, this doesn't sound like those. It might not make your rear view mirror rattle but I didn't want that. Don't get me wrong, it is Loud but I simply wanted good bass in a small package to retain my trunk space. This Subwoofer far surpassed my expectations, especially since some of the reviews were so poor. Also, I installed it under my passenger seat "sideways" meaning the long way going left to right..connections facing the drivers seat, since it wouldn't fit under the driver side due to the electric motor. Again, i placed the amp sideways without any brackets and it stays put just fine. My only complaint is that the sub does not reproduce extremely low frequencies. If I had to guess, I would say 50hz and below..not a big deal. To me, this speaker sounds just as good as a quality (not top tier though) 10" Subwoofer installed in a sealed box with a dedicated amp. BTW, the way that I tuned this amp was with the supplied "remote" gain knob turned all the way up. This way I would know the max level before distortion and could manage my small adjustments from there. Installation, including removal of my factory radio took about 2.5 - 3 hours. Don't forget to take your time to tune it with small adjustments. Would buy again. ... show more

For the price you really can't beat this product as long as you keep your expectations realistic. This is not a bass driving, show stopping, competition amp and sub box. This is for someone looking to add good punch to the music they listen to on a daily basis. It has a great level of bass but not the kind to send your girlfriends hair flying around like she is stuck in Darude's sandstorm (get real). Installation and setup is easy with a little research. My only gripe and why I gave it 4 stars is that it is advertised as a 10" subwoofer. With the housing of the unit only being 9.6" I doubt there is a real 10" sub in this thing. I just feel deceived in advertising but the real question is, would I recommend this to someone looking to upgrade their factory sound system? Yes. Would I buy it again? Yes.
