  • Great stereo
Style: 616UAB
I very rarely write reviews but this deserves one. I wasn't expecting much when I purchased this but, what a great stereo for the price. I have been into car audio for over 20 years and have installed countless stereo's. I upgrade from an older Pioneer head unit that did not have Bluetooth connectivity, only aux in. This Boss stereo blows the Pioneer away in sound quality and power. Bluetooth connectivity works great and connects to my phone automatically every time with no issues. Has bass/trebble balance/fade controls, along with a couple preset eq curves. People that are complaining about screen brightness in other reviews just need to turn up the brightness in the settings menu. I have no problem seeing the screen in full sun. Stereo looks and feels of much better quality than the price suggests. I love how shallow it is as well. It makes installation a breeze. My only complaint would be the sound quality doesn't seem quite as good when just listening to FM radio. However I only listen to talk shows in the morning on FM. All of my music I listen through Bluetooth on my phone and it works great for that. I have only used the stereo's built in microphone a couple times to call my wife's phone and she can hear me just fine. However she says there is a slight echoing on her side of the call like she can hear everything she is saying to me. This could be because I have had the stereo up pretty loud in the calls and is maybe getting feedback into the mic? Not really a problem for me because I didn't buy it for hands free callling. I have it installed in a 2003 Chevy S10 on stock speakers and it sounds great. So much better than the stock stereo and the old Pioneer I replaced it with. If you are looking for a budget stereo with reliable Bluetooth, buy this stereo. You will not find a better one in this price range. ... show more

  • Awesome unit for the money
Style: 616UAB
Definitely an awesome unit for the price. To give a bit detail I have a 2000 Toyota Corolla. Took a bit to get the wiring setup, nothing over complicated just need the proper tools. Took me about 45 minutes to install. Once everything was connected and turned on, connects almost instantly to Bluetooth, sounds awesome as well. Switches songs fast as well, no lag or delays. For this car it is perfect. 10/10 ... show more

  • Good sound quality considering price
Style: 616UAB
Replaced a stock AC DELCO unit in a 90 Buick Skylark. For the price, sound quality is amazing. It's a very basic unit with Bluetooth which is what I wanted. I was specifically avoiding bells and whistles. I have one complaint and one concern. My complaint is that the audio settings are a PITA to navigate to. You have to press the center button once to access the clock, then hold the center button to access settings which takes you through clock/time, illumination THEN to audio. It's annoying when you're driving and want to change the bass on the fly. My concern is that I rough installed and tested this when it was 28°F. After playing for 5 minutes at 70% volume the cooling fins/heatsink on the back of the unit was almost too hot to touch (165-175°F). I fear that excessive heat will effect this units reliability when fully installed in the dash and it's peak summer. Also, I wouldn't run this with subwoofers unless you plan to control EQ/filters externally. Settings are very basic (bass, treb, fade, balance). There are not channel specific filters, crossovers, 31 band eq, etc. this is a very basic unit but sounds great as a cheap upgrade from stock. ... show more

  • How can they do that!
Style: 616UAB
How can they make such a full featured radio at such a low price? And it works absolutely flawlessly!

  • If you're buying it for the bluetooth audio, watch out
Style: 625UAB Detachable Face
Incredible improvement. Replaced a 1987 jvc stereo so maybe i'm just not used to features. I love this bluetooth connectivity. The phone doesn't even leave my pocket. Once paired, I get into my car, turn on the stereo and my podcast picks up right where I left off. Leaving my car I pop off the faceplate, podcast paused. Never experienced such convenience in audio. Maybe my standards aren't high but the difference between this and my old dying box is night and day. Tons of options for audio. It was easy to install, all cables clearly marked and prestripped. It was a quick 20 minute setup. Just remember the yellow just connects with the positive same as the red wire. Some big gripes though. The remote is 100% useless. It uses IR which is just dumb. I have to point it at the stereo to use it which totally eliminates the convenience compared to the face buttons. Which means it can't be used to control the stereo outside of the car, which means it can't just be attached to something for quick controls. Real bummer. Also it makes phone control with phonecalls almost impossible. In order to dial the phone with the radio you need to do it with the remote. As mentioned, it doesn't work. I have no idea why Boss would think dialing a number with a remote that can't keep up was even feasible. Parked (because you should never try this while driving.) I tried 3 times to dial a number with the remote. Not once did this result in a successful call. The system seems impatient for the number prompts. You are supposed to hit the call button and dial a 10 digit number. It thinks you've given up by number 4 and stops. This is on top of the number pad on the remote being organized nothing like a phone number pad. As if it could register the number hits fast as i could dial it on the remote (it wont). Phone quality was not great either. Calling someone they could hardly hear me. Microphone placement must not be great Other than that, usb works good, sd works good, bluetooth works good. Sound quality is good. 3 stars because that remote is absolute garbage, which is a shame because it limits the advertised features. When everything is geared to moder media, why would you do it all with an IR remote? Just silly. UPDATE: Lowering my rating again. There is a distinct whine in the bluetooth audio that will not go away. I have tried multiple devices and the issue persists. When I first sync the bluetooth device. the audio seems fine. However, when you leave and return and it automatically resyncs, a buzz or hum is heard under all audio tracks. I initially thought it must have been a problem with my old iphone, however, now i've tried it with an android tablet and a new iphone. First sync audio is clear as day. Once it reconnects to the device it gets a background buzz. It's extemely obnoxious and now I have the choice of returning this and having no stereo for god knows how long or living with it. I've checked over the wiring, i've tried repositioning the bluetooth antenna. problem continues to persist. Leading me to think either this unit is defective or just cheap. real bummer as that was my biggest reason for purchase. ... show more
