  • Keeps Ring camera charged up for months if it gets plenty of sunlight
Configuration: Video Doorbell (2nd Gen-2020 Rel...
I have had the original version of this for a little over 2 years, and have now purchased the newer version, which has the same product title, and looks like it is the same product. The newer one has a new AMZN page, but I think they are the same product: Original AMZN page (currently unavailable): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B085DVTYHN New AMZN page: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B3F9LS2G Here are my experiences with the product over the past 2+ years. I have just replaced it with the newer one and don't have enough experience yet to say if it is identical or not. My installation placement was so that it received full sun for several hours. It works pretty good, and kept the Ring doorbell charged for many months in all seasons. I did have problems and had to manually remove and recharge the Ring camera when we had a week or more of clouds and rain--in that case, the Ring battery went to zero after about a week or so. I have replaced the product now because the original one will no longer charge the camera due to the 3 solar panels being totally degraded. Orginal panels are slick and shiny, but 2+ years old panels look like black sandpaper. They no longer produce any power. Overall, for the price it's a good product, even if it has to be replaced every couple of years. That works out to about $25 a year, plus the bother of re-installing the new one, which just went right back where the old one already was -- same mounting holes, screws, size, etc. I put the same old Ring camera back on the new solar charger. If this little solar charger won't work for you, then you probably need a remote solar panel. Look for the ones sold (or similar with the right connector you need) for the Ring Stickup cams. Those are large panels, and can be placed at a distance and are easier to face towards the sun. I have several of those with Stickup Cams, and I've never had to manually recharge those batteries that are connected to the large panels, even during those long cloudy rainy periods. ... show more

  • Surprised
Configuration: Video Doorbell (2nd Gen-2020 Rel...
After installation I noticed the battery wasn't being charged, then I noticed once the battery level reached 75%, the battery level was being maintained from 75% to 76%. So it actually does charge and maintain the battery level.

  • Worked for a year
Configuration: Video Doorbell 3, 3+, 4, Battery...
I'm in sw Florida, full sun on this thing basically all day. At first it was great. Full charge alll the time... Recently it was not behaving. Sometimes it would charge the batteries sometimes it wouldn't. Finally completely gave out. The solar panels just a topped working and got cracked. I keep It clean but I think the plastic covering is poor quality. Its cheap enough to replace, but wish it wouldve last longer than one year. Here's to trying again! Ps. Very easy to install and easy to connect. ... show more

  • Doesn’t really charge well for me..
Configuration: Video Doorbell (2nd Gen-2020 Rel...
This is the second solar charger for a doorbell I’ve had and neither of them have done a great job at keeping the doorbell charged. My front door has a SMALL overhang and gets direct sunlight onto the actual unit but it still doesn’t keep it charged. My last one at my old house had no overhang and also had direct sunlight and it stopped working quickly. ... show more

  • Great for increasing or maintaining charge in high traffic areas.
Configuration: Video Doorbell (2nd Gen-2020 Rel...
I am so happy with this product, as it keeps me from having to charge my Ring doorbell frequently. I have a Ring doorbell placed in a high traffic area and this charger works perfectly. This is easy to install, especially if you have a Ring doorbell already in place. The holes line up with your existing doorbell, so it's easily installed in less than 5 minutes. All the tools and screws are included, so you won't need anything additional. The charger is connected through the same port used for USB charging. Be sure to put this where there is ample sun to get the best results. ... show more

  • SEE UPDATED REVIEW BELOW - Don't waste your money, charger doesn't charge
Configuration: Video Doorbell (2nd Gen-2020 Rel...
UPDATE: Since my initial review below, Ring Support has actually reached out to help resolve some of my issues. The rep was very nice and knowledgeable about the Ring doorbell, Ring settings, and the solar charger. It turns out that the solar charger is intended/designed to provide what is called a "trickle charge" to the doorbell. This means it doesn't fully charge the doorbell battery, but helps extend the time between charging instances. Mine wasn't doing that because my motion frequency was set to Frequently and my motion sensitivity was really high. I had it set that way for a particular reason. With the settings so high, it was draining the battery faster than the solar charger could charge. The rep helped me set up more reasonable settings and will check back with me in a week or two. I was very impressed that Ring took the time to reach out. I told the rep that the information he provided about the "trickle charge" was very helpful and good to know and that information should probably be included in the product description. When I saw that the solar panel was a charger, I thought that meant it would always keep the battery charged and that I would never have to manually charge it, but it really only extends the battery life. I'm updating my star rating from 1 to 4, not because I'm completely satisfied with the product, but because I am impressed Ring Support contacted me to help resolve the issue. Original Review: I switched to a Ring doorbell for a couple of reasons. 1) I was tired of having to replace the AA batteries every 45 days in my Blink doorbell 2) I wanted a doorbell that picked up motion better 3) I wanted a doorbell that had night vision. I went with the Ring doorbell because in my search I saw the option for the solar panel charger. I thought that would be perfect. I would never have to charge the doorbell manually. WRONG! Even though the solar panel gets at least 6 hours of sunlight a day, it does not actually keep the doorbell charged. I have changed motion settings, notification settings and anything else I can think of and it never matters. Also, the Ring doorbell picks up more UNWANTED motion than it does WANTED motion. And I have yet to receive a notification for package delivery detection. It has been a little frustrating to say the least. ... show more
