  • Affordable and Efficient

My first purchase of the solar doorbell was not compatible with my 3rd gen doorbell. I returned and have purchased another. Will update and review when received. 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘: Doorbell solar panel has been installed. Doorbell operating very efficiently as before. I did charge up batteries to 100% before installing solar panel. Today has been a rainy day but I’m currently surveilling at 99% battery life! So far…SO GOOD! Definitely worth the buy and preventing me from risking a fall from my ladder every 20-30 days having to recharge batteries! 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘: 𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁 2 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸𝘀 𝗮𝗴𝗼 𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆. It’s been 2 and a half months since my purchase and there has not been any progress. My doorbell keeps charge for a maximum of 5 days (my settings are high) Of course because I purchased the solar panel, I made my alert settings on my doorbell high and frequent. This has caused my doorbell battery to run down very quickly because my solar isn’t charging. My return capability has run out so I’m stuck with this panel that’s pretty much useless and I’m at a lost! I didn’t expect this from RING! 𝓤𝓟𝓓𝓐𝓣𝓔 8/26/24 I’m so annoyed by this waste of purchase! I hope Ring sees this. My doorbell is the only system not holding or taking any charge from my solar panel! Do not purchase! ... show more

  • Works okay
Configuration: Video Doorbell (2nd Gen-2020 Rel...
This was mounted in a location for direct sun exposure almost all day. While it does not actually charge the doorbell, it does seem to maintain the charge. First installed with 73% and it stayed at 73% for a week. Completely charged it to 100% and it has maintained 100% for over a week. FYI, we have had sunny days for all this time. We’ll see what happens when we get cloudy weather. ... show more

  • Works well with solar panel.
Configuration: Video Doorbell (2nd Gen-2020 Rel...
It seems to work well, but I’ve had to reinstall several times because of distance from router and chime pro. This unit was installed closer than the old unit and does not perform as well.

  • Updated - Seems to charge enough to keep battery levels steady or add 1% per a week.
Configuration: Video Doorbell (2nd Gen-2020 Rel...
------ORIGINAL REVIEW titled "Does not charge even with a fair amount of Sunlight" This charger does not charge my camera. It gets about 5-6 hours of direct sunlight every day. The uploaded photo was taken at 6pm and you can see that the shade is just approaching at that time, In that app, I see solar connected status but I never see the charging icon and the camera is losing about 1% of battery per day. The only positive is that the installation was fairly straightforward though the instructions are not that good. At this point, I cannot recommend this charger. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- REVISED REVIEW titled "Seems to charge enough to keep battery levels steady or add 1% per a week." With some great customer service from Ring, we went through some troubleshooting steps . Afterwards, Ring determined the next best thing to do was to replace the charger. The replacement charger did cause the charging icon to show. The charging icon does not show the majority of the time but at least now it does show some of the time and I have seen the battery % actually increase 1% from time to time. I don't think that it will actually charge the battery to 100% on its own, but I can say at least it is doing a great job of keeping the charge % steady with an occasional increase of 1%. If it will continue to keep the charge steady , then it meets my needs. Thanks Ring for the amazing Customer Support! ... show more

  • Great doorbell!
Configuration: Video Doorbell (2nd Gen-2020 Rel...
I have 3 of these doorbell units now, one of each model. Even tried a 4th so I feel this is a pretty good review. I started w/ the first gen wireless doorbell. I bought it 4-5 years ago and it still works. Its a bit worse for wear on the outside but video still looks pretty good for looking like it was punched on the outside. I now have that device up on my shed giving me a great perspective of the back of my house. This just speaks to the longevity of these things. I just bought this, doorbell 3 plus, (used and had to return) doorbell plus and the newest one that takes battery. This one does NOT have a replaceable battery which is a bit concerning but since its for a back door cam, I am going to give it a try. I have it plugged into a ring branded solar mount. I had good luck w/ a 3rd party one on my original ring for all this time so I'm hopeful this will work even better as solar efficiency is probably better on newer devices. Only cons to any of this is the monthly subscription to use them properly once you get more than one is 10 dollars a month. I moved away from my own locally managed IP camera system becuase I got tired of managing / maintaining it. Previous setup was far more complex, IP cams to POE switch, cams configured on a VLAN with isolated traffic / limited network rights via Sophos UTM firewall. Storage on a NAS device w/ 5 HD's, management software running on a virtual machine on a Host computer I run some mining software on. That took a few hours of work and weeks of tuning to make it usable let alone customized. I had the ring setup and working within 10 minutes not counting the obvious time of mounting, joining to wifi etc. All we need now is POE cameras from Ring and I'll be 100% sold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (poe = power over ethernet so you get super strong wired ethernet without having to run a separate power adapter) ... show more
