The Rhino P1001 is a portable 40A EV charger for Tesla. This works primarily as a level 2 charger. The P1001 is light and comes with a nice carrying case. It comes with an optional wall mount to wrap the cable around and hold the plug if you want a permanent solution. The blue LED button to open the EV lid works flawlessly. Plug it in. Your Tesla will show blue for communicating and green for charging. I have the 40A version. This charger has an adjustable timer and variable amp setting. With the timer you can set a delay for when you want it to start charging. The 40A version can adjust between 33A-40A. Although it's nice to have, I prefer using scheduled charging and adjusting the amps though Tesla's app. You cannot adjust it any lower on the charger itself. You do still have the option to adjust your Tesla to charge are a lower amperage. If you do use an adapter rated for a lower Max AMP breaker, please be sure to change AMPs in your Tesla to accommodate it. The P1001 will still work. I used the NEMA 10-30P. I changed the max AMP output to 24 AMPs. The cable is 25ft long. I'm able to reach my car with no issues and plenty of slack to spare. The cable is light and flexible for a Level 2 EV charger. Making for ease of use when operating or packing to take with you on the go. The plug and unit itself has an aesthetically pleasing design. I love the clean and minimalist look. The plug's handle compliments the color of my car. It is also very sleek and slim compared to some of the bulkier 3rd party ones I've seen. The materials are high quality, this is built to last. The P1001 is weather proof making it safe for outdoor use, even in the rain. It's rained 3 times now while I was charging outside and I have had zero issues. The P1001 has improved my charging routine. Being able to charge over night is very convenient. The portability makes it easy to throw in the frunk for peace of mind in case of an emergency. ... show more

The Tesla button works good, cord is thick. Screen and box seems good. Need this a level 1 travel charger. Thought this would work perfect since does 40 amp in level 2. Off to by a gen 1 Tesla charger I guess.

I received this unit today for my Model S. The unit will not allow me to adjust the amp setting below 33amps. It gets stuck. On two occasions, the screen froze and was displaying "aging mode" and was beeping. I had to disconnect from the outlet and plug back in. On my final try, it was just beeping and stuck at 40amps not matter what I did and following the manual instructions. I need to set it at 24amps as they advertise this unit will do. Going to replace with another OEM charger instead. ... show more

This is a great EVSEs. I've tried other EVSEs for Teslas and the button doesn't actually work. I was surprised to find out that it actually does. I was successfully able to pull 40A from the EVSE without any issues. The screen also provides some useful information. The charging station can be mounted, though I am using it as a portable charger for when I am on the go and at RV parks. This uses a standard 14-50P which plugs into a receptacle. That means if you want to use this at home, you need to get a 14-50R receptacle. I had no issues and was able to get up and running and charging as soon as plugged it in. I like that this is easy to take with you, making it perfect for travel. It can also be mounted, so you get options. It will go up to 40 Amp’s which is perfect. The display is easy to read and easy to use. I like that it cuts the power once the vehicle is fully charged and it has a nice long cord, so there’s no worry about it being able to reach. ... show more
