SPK Control Systems are easy to install, use no electricity, increase air flow to the valve, have heat shielding for greater protection, and include a built-in safety feature which shuts off gas flow should pilot flame go out. Certified to ANSI Standards for propane gas. To be used with 12 - 36 inch standard G4 and G45 burners, 12 - 18 inch see-thru G4 burners, or 18 - 30 inch see-thru G45 burners. NOTE - before purchasing a pilot kit to add to your existing log set you must ensure that you have adequate space in your fireplace, per the manufacturer’s guidelines.

Disappointed as this valve stopped working appropriately after 3 months. Contacted Real Fyre as the product is under warranty and was told it is our gas line and not the product. This is not the case and the manufacturer refuses to respond to our request for a warranty replacement.

Good directions. You should have some pipe wrenches and plumbing skills to install this. Be sure to use gas type pipe thread dope. And be sure to test for leaks with soapy water ( and rinse the detergent off after). Be sure the pilot unit heat shield is in place before operating the fireplace.

I installed this to replace one that worked for many years. It failed after one winter. Bought another and it too failed after one winter. I’m not willing to throw more money into that hole.

The thermocouple failed after just 2 weeks. The different-branded one it replaced (and its valve) had lasted 17 years. This one replace it OK. It has a pilot adjustment screw conveniently located on the front, where it's easy to get to after the whole fireplace is assembled with logs, sand, and embers. An excellent feature. I have an old fireplace with an ITT General Controls valve that was leaking gas. I've been told that the grease in the valves, exposed to heat, over time disappears. The fireplace pan had been installed backwards, with the gas pipe entering on the left and the valve on the left. I was happy to find the Peterson kit. It was not hard to make it work. The Peterson valve is symmetrical, so it can be mounted on the left of a fireplace pan and it's low profile, which keeps it away from the heat. I had to move the pilot light from the right to the left of the pan and cut threads in a pipe nipple to reinstall the old nozzle. It's working great. And one thing I really like about this valve is that the actual safety valve in it is a replaceable part. ... show more

Our old pilot went out but this was a good replacement part. Had a little trouble with whistling but we're able to tweak some things and now it's perfect. My husband is very handy and we had some trouble so I wouldn't recommend a novice to do this install.

We bought this to replace our old pilot light and ignite that was not functioning when we moved in to our new house. It worked very well and was fairly easy to install. Bought as a replacement for a 12 year old pilot that failed. Nice quality, check your fittings and make sure you get the pilot flame adjustment right, (its in the instructions)!
