Description

Res Care All-Purpose Water Softener Cleaner Liquid is a powerful, reliable cleaning agent to keep resin clean and your water softener functioning at maximum levels. Res Care is formulated to restore fouled resin beds and eliminate mineral deposits and other contaminants in your water softener through a simple, continuous drip with the Easy Feeder system. Fouled resin beds can keep your water softener from performing properly, leaving you with discolored water filled with impurities. Res Care is designed to clear the softener of contaminants that salt alone fails to remove, preventing the buildup of contaminants that coat the resin beads, causing inefficiencies, and in some cases, total failure of your softener. Using resin cleaner also increases the lifespan and efficiency of your water softening system. The Res Care Liquid Refill four-pack provides 10 months of continual water softener cleaning when used with the Pro Products Easy Feeder.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Review update 4+ years after 1st cleaning.
Item Package Quantity: 1
I used this product in two 64,000 gr resin beds over 5 years old in a house with greater than 5 occupants using the water from our well and water softener. I did each twice. The amount of iron etc. that came out in the rinse was significantly better than with Iron outt and salt alone. I believe the resin bed was cleansed from some impurities that I could not significantly remove during a normal ion exchange cleansing with salt and Iron outt. I have now returned to only using salt and the resin works much better than before the use of this product. I will use this again if I notice the resin bed needing an early regeneration or probably at yearly intervals. There was a taste of the phosphoric acid in the drinking water until the resin had been cleansed with salt only using two additional regeneration cycles. You may want to increase your rinse time on your unit to speed the process. Update: 9.17.15: I was only using salt with the salt purchased in 50 lb bags with the iron reduction addition. After 2 years, the efficiency of the resin bed was decreasing and occasionally I would have to early regenerate a cycle due to the complaint of a smell or hardness occurring. I did not want to run the full strength 4 oz per cubic foot of resin as it previously took 2 regeneration cycles to remove the phosphoric acid taste, thus I tried 2 oz with my longer backwash time as I mentioned earlier. I also changed the setting on my water hardness to a higher number which will cause the control unit to give me less gallons per next regeneration cycle (in my case from 1800 gallons to about 1400 gallons and thirdly increased by brine refill which will utilize more salt and a better ion exchange per cycle). After the 1st cycle the unit works great and with my longer backwash no noticeable taste by family members of the phosphoric acid using 2 oz in the salt tank. I continued manually adding 2 oz to my salt tank prior to regeneration and a month later and the water has been close to perfect in the house. Will use when needed with 2 oz res care per cycle and planning on using it at least monthly to help keep the resin clean and effective. Things to remember: 1. The resin will become less effective over time vs. when new so expect its ion exchange ability to diminish over time 2. If on well water the iron and other hardness factors needing to be removed may change over time. 3. the cost of a bag of salt is meaningless compared to the family complaints of stinky hard water forcing me to get up and run regeneration cycles at night etc. is not desirable; so , prevent this experience at all costs by changing the parameters above and as in my case only getting 1400 gallons divided by 5 equals 280 five gallon bottles or about $700 worth of "good" water if purchased from a supermarket. It's still a good value and don't go for the max 1800 gallons as in my case as it is not worth the risk. I answered unknown blue color question in question section today: unknown blue color in salt tank is probably Ferrous Phosphate precipitate from some phosphate combining with iron in the water (inorganic chemistry lab). I think its quite pretty and of no concern to me. Update: 8.22.17 The water has been good as long as I add about 3 to 4 oz to salt tank with each regeneration cycle as preventative maintenance... ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Dissolves the hardest mineral buildup on faucets with ease
Item Package Quantity: 1
I'm glad that I found about this product. It also works on calcium and mineral build up on kitchen and bathroom faucet. I'm on the verge on replacing my faucets because soaking it on vinegar and baking soda overnight does nothing. Update 8/3/2020: So it turns out my Culligan Medalist water softener is not working. No wonder the salt level in the brine tank has not gone down for 2 years of owning the house. The culligan water softener was bought in 2003 (as per the docs that came with the house). The previous owner of the house is probably not aware that the softener is not working so it must have been in that condition for so many years. I could only imagine how much sediments build up are in the resin bed. A week ago, I decided to tackle the issue after searching the forums for solution. There are 2 issues on my water softener, (1) there is 12+ inch salt bridge that formed in the top of the brine tank which is a PIA to remove. If you have a water softener, please do not fill the brine tank with salt to the brim. The crystal salt are notoriously bad in causing a salt bridge. (2) My water softener is not drawing brine solution during slow rinse cycle. I went to my local culligan, and they sold me the part for the main piston seal pack, brine piston, eductor, and drain line flow control. Installed the new parts myself, ran some test especially the brine draw which is now working. It feels good to have something in control again after not working for so many years lol. I decided on not replacing the resin (it's 17 years old) on my water softener, and thought the ResCare would somehow rejuvenate the resin beads. I bought a test kit called Hach 145300 Total Hardness Test Kit Model 5-B to test the hardness of my water. Prior to fixing my water softener, my hardness test would yield 20 GPG which is extremely hard. On my first manual regen, I put half cup of rescare in the brine well as instructed. The hardness went down to 11 GPG. 11 GPG is still considered extremely hard, so I repeat the process of manually regenerating with half cup of rescare in the brine well and the hardness went down to 7 GPG (considered as medium hard). Not completely satisfied, I tried it again for the third time. My water hardness is now 3 GPG which is considered soft water. I believe this product has done a wonderful job of rejuvenating the resin beads, and would totally recommend. ... show more

Recently moved into a new home (for us) with a water softer, something I e never had to have before. Previous owner never used any cleaning product and you could tell in the water quality. Started using this product after a family member recommended it and after a few backwash cycles there is a noticeable difference. I put 4oz in the brine tank reservoir once a week and let it do its thing. ... show more

You sure don't need much when using this. We bought this product after purchasing a new softener and this was recommended. Have not had any trouble so far.
