I purchased this camera security system to replace an aging lower-end model which stopped working. This Reolink model costs a bit more than I planned to spend, but I wanted a high-quality system. The reviews, specs. and features seemed great, so I went with it- it did not disappoint! Pros: • Excellent image quality from the cameras. For me, image resolution and clarity were the most important factor I was looking for- these cameras deliver! • The cameras are exceptionally well-built and have very solid construction. • Easy setup and use of the DVR/system. The system is packed with excellent features and options. • Remote access via my Smartphone works very well. Viewing high-res. videos rapidly drains the battery of my phone, but that is understandable. • I really like the Windows client software (vers. 7.2.33, 64-bit) and use it on two different Windows 10 laptops. Some reviewers have mentioned that it is unstable/locks up, however, I have not had this issue (it is very stable and works fantastic). • The 2TB hard drive is fine, but I upgraded to a 4TB drive ($99 here on Amazon) due to the large file sizes (four high-res. video cameras require a lot of hard drive space). Upgrading was easy- open the case, unscrew old HD, put in new HD, format drive from the menu. Done! I will eventually utilize the stock HD as the extra external drive. • Responsive Customer Service. I sent an email just confirming my DVR had the latest firmware (I attached a screen shot). They responded back that it did and provided a website to check for future updates. • Overall excellent features and functionality for the cost. Cons: • I do not like the camera wire/lead which ends in 3 bulky connectors (network cable, optional power supply, and reset button). These 3 leads makes for an awkwardly large group of wires/connectors that is very difficult to hide/protect when mounting outdoors. In addition, the total length of the lead (from camera base to the end of the 3 connectors) is almost 20 inches. I am sure that long lead aids in some installations, but for me, it is simply more wire to try to tuck away. • The design of the ‘waterproof lid’ is poor (it doesn’t seem waterproof to me). I added silicone caulk around the ‘lid’ to ensure it is waterproof, but there has to be a better solution than this. Additional: • The night vision capability is sufficient (not stellar, but satisfactory). Reminder that when ambient light levels drop, the cameras automatically switch to Black and White mode. • I do not use the audio option of these cameras. Aside from the few cons I listed, this is a really impressive system- excellent image quality, great features, and a reasonable cost. Nice job Reolink! ... show more

After making the decision to go with PoE cameras instead of Wi-Fi for the reliability of a ethernet connection and saving on subscription fees I came across Reolink. For the price and perceived quality, this seemed like the best choice. After getting them all installed they worked flawlessly. The app is very well designed when compared to other security system apps that I have worked with. All of them are a bit clunky so if you're not used to it, it will take some time getting used to. The build quality of the cameras, video quality and the angles are fantastic. The included hard drive is a bit small so definitely plan on adding a second one. I will be looking to add the doorbell next and replacing my Google one to get rid of yet another subscription fee. ... show more

    • Bluetooth mouse is a MUST and Backup issues

So far I just got 2 cameras setup but not being able to control NVR with a bluetooth mouse is not acceptable. Cheaper NVR like the one I had before allow for bluetooth mouse. I am setting at my chair and want to enlarge a camera I must get up and walk over to the TV. Except my monitor is not seeable from the TV, I use a separate monitor much closer to me. Not a user friendly system. I guess I can try and extend the mouse cable, wow who uses a wire mouse. 3/23/2020 Ok, the 15' USB cable allows me to use the mouse in my normal TV watching position. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0179MXKU8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I upped the rating to 4 stars. When I get bluetooth mouse capability I am going to 5 star. Displays is very nice allows for good zoom in. Software is better than my old NVR system, could be better but very useable. Picture attached of my 4 camera setup. 9/11/2020 Reolink backup observations: I have several recorded files on the Reolink that are greater than 3GB in length. Not sure how these files get broken out, but I lost a nice deer scene because it was at the end of the 3GB file. Strange that I could play the file on the Relink hard drive, but when I tried to back it up on a Fat32 USB drive it failed at exactly the same place very time. After several weeks the file was overwritten, but I kept a 264 file of that scene, that I have not been able to play. The 264 file was smaller and I assume it has the deer scene on it. I tried to limit the back up to a 4-minute spread which would have been much smaller than 3GB. The Reolink backup routine logic does not just copy the time spread as input but includes a file much larger that has the spread contained within it. This causes the backup to take many hours to complete. This must be fixed. The cameras are awesome and provide good detail. Suggest you only backup what is requested time wise. Please let me know if I am missing something comments are welcome. 5/20/22 The NVR Lan login failed, it is no longer connected to my network. This results in not being able to access the cams via phone or laptop. Call Reolink, the warranty period is 2 years, mine was over it by 3 months. They refused to provide an exception. Was hoping for some support, but they gave me a link to a new NVR which cost $242. So now working with Asurion trying to take advantage of my Extended Warranty benefit. The first hiccup, ship the failed NVR to them on their dime, with AC/DC adapter. Just received a call they cannot repair or test the NVR until I ship back all 4 cameras. I explained that the cameras are attached to my eves and would be difficult to take down. No exceptions must have all 4 cameras, strange I told them that the failed internet connection is what failed everything else worked fine. Oh well waiting for a shipping label, will keep this updated as I get the ladder out and retrieve the cameras. 6/30/2022 Asurion is not performing very well. I shipped the 3 remaining cameras back to them and 4 days later received my NVR and the one bad camera I originally sent. The camera still does not work and the Lan connection on the NVR also does not work. Asurion has escalated my claim, I have been without my system for over a month. An NVR and camera cost around 330, I bet the shipping and so-called fix cost more. ... show more

Bought this Reolink security camera system & added a few more cameras around the property & house & very pleased with the clarity & distance of these cameras, going to add a few more. Love the convenience of picking up the phone while out somewhere & keeping an eye on the dog's & seeing everything is safe! No extra charges for monitoring is great, still need to find tune things, but overall very happy with this purchase. Worth the initial expense & a day to get things wired up & working!
