We bought this for a six week camping trip across the US. We stayed at all manner of campsites, from the mountains to the beaches, and this footprint kept our tent dry and puncture free. In the past we used tarps, which are stiff and rather unwieldy to fold back up, and especially a pain when they are wet and muddy. Not this thing. It's a bit heavy for backpacking but the large size allowed me to stow my backpack and things while having room for food, cooking utensils, clothes and more. Worked out good for me. Tent footprints have largely been replaced by foam pads that are knee and foot friendly excepting ultralight backpacking tents where foam pads are impractical.
