Built a bar stool out of 1/2inch gas pipe. Cut threads for every pipe I used with this tool. Yes you need to go slow, clean all the chips away, and use lots of oil. It will not be a day process, but if you take your time and cut a little at a time you'll be fine....Overall I would not use this for gas line, since the threads it produces are not that great. But if you are looking to make some furniture then this will work ... show more

After attempting to use an undersized vice miserably, I was able to thread black 1 inch pipe easily in a properly sized vice. It needed strength as well as strong pipe jaws. 3/4 inch pipe was real easy.

These are very poor quality dies. After much labor got 6 threaded ends done on 1” pipe. The die is worn out. Will no longer cut. Used copious amounts of oil wile cutting. Would not recommend this to anyone.
