  • Finally a vacuum I like!
Ever since I was a young kid, I’ve had adversarial relationships with vacuum cleaners. At home, when mom assigned me the vacuuming chore, I remember using a Lewyt metal canister vacuum. I hated it because the nameplate made a horrific buzzing sound that I couldn't stand. I'd give it a swift kick and the buzzing would stop for a while- only to need another kick later- plus it never rolled straight. Of course that was the 1960s and vacuum cleaners have improved immensely. This Tritan by Prolux is (so far) everything I could hope for in a vacuum. It replaces a Eureka canister vacuum that we had for years that was OK, I guess. I got tired of fixing the broken hose (connection to the vacuum body) with gaffers tape, and when you pushed the cord retract button, the AC power plug would retract with so much force that it would wedge itself into the vacuum so that I needed a pair of pliers to extract it. On the Prolux Tritan, the cord retractor works smoothly and not too fast. Plus you can pull the cord out from its fully retracted position without dragging the whole vacuum across the room. I also like that the motor starts somewhat gradually. So if you accidentally left it turned on, and you plug in, it doesn't end up scaring the crap out of you. It more gradually comes up to speed. Even at the maximum setting, this vacuum is quiet (vacuuming fatigue isn’t just physical). The suction is very strong and it is adjustable. You can vary the suction with the "diverter valve" on the hose nozzle (like most vacuums of this type) AND with the knob on the vacuum which varies motor speed. It really keeps you from accidentally sucking in lighter rugs, drapes and such. For the most part, the attachments are excellent. The bare floor brush (which has a rocker switch that either lowers or raises the brush) broke so that the brush was extended all of the time. I contacted Prolux about this and they immediately sent me a replacement floor brush attachment at no charge. Excellent customer service! The hose end and extension tubes are slightly larger in diameter than most vacuums. It just means that if you have attachments from other vacuum manufacturers, they won’t fit. I don’t think that matters except for the dust brush which is kind of crappy. It turns out that our old dust brush made of rubber can be shoved onto the hose end and/or extension tubes. The vacuum comes with extra bags and a hook/razor tool that allows you to easily remove hair that gets stuck in the rotary brush attachment. Oh yes, I almost forgot: I love that it has HEPA filtration. Great for asthmatics like me. You get a lot of vacuum for the $. It’s a very good value considering the quality and engineering that was put into it. It seems built to withstand years of normal use, but time will tell. But for now, it’s everything I would want in a vacuum. ... show more

  • superior suction
Color: Tritan Blue
Bought this to replace a 20 year old Eureka Boss, so I am getting used to a different vacuum. Great suction. We have a LOT of dog hair, and this vac does great! Love that the floor tool rotates, so very easy to get under furniture. The floor tool does have a wide swath which is good and bad. It is cumbersome in corners. I love the fact that the accessories fit and store on the wand, but they occasionally fall off while vacuuming. There is a nice little piece on the vacuum base that holds the floor tool and hose together while not in use. Retractable cord is terrific. Several ways to control the suction is very user friendly. I had to watch the video to fully understand how to operate and use all of the tools. So far, very happy with the purchase, as I was hesitant to buy a brand that I had not heard of. Price was good. Maybe deserved a few more stars, but I am too new to the product and used my old vac for a long time. ... show more

  • Best Vacuum for this Low Price !
Color: Tritan Blue
If you don't like choking on poofs of dust when you turn on your vacuum, have sensitive ears, and like clean floors. . . this vaccum is for you. I use it on the lowest power setting most of the time, which is very powerful and extremely quiet, and guests can even hear the television! Plus, this vacuum is very stylish (if that counts for you), and I got the blue one. I have a Miele at my other residence, and can say that I like this Prolux just as well and it costs about 1/8 of the price of a Miele. I like that this Prolux has a great filtration system and dust stays confined. I have a very sensitive sinus area, and can tell if even one speck of dust poofs out of a vacuum. In the old days, when I used a Hoover upright, I always choked when I turned the vacuum and saw dust coming out of the bag. Obviously, the supposedly very efficient brands with no bags and canisters that you empty when full, would never work for someone with allergies. If you have dust allergies, this Prolux if a good choice. I would recommend buying the option that has the motorized vacuum head if you have lots of carpet, but the regular head that comes with it works great on hard wood floors. I bought an after market 10" wide brush attachment for this Prolux to use on my hard wood floors and it works great. As a note, the barrel of this Prolux seems to be a little wider than 1 1/4", so if you purchase an additional after market brush, look for 1 1/2" attachments. I didn't see many 1 1/2" attachments on Amazon to purchase, so I had to purchase an adapter. On AMAZON, I purchased "Hardwood Floor Brush 1 1/4" with soft bristles vacuum cleaner attachment 10" wide" and "Mr. Nozzle Part #17 Vacuum Hose Adapter". ... show more

  • Best little vac for the money
Color: Tritan Blue
For the cost, this is a great vacuum. It is light weight and has great suction. My home is mostly wood floors and I had to dial down the suctions and adjust the height of the heat to carpet, because it wanted to suction to the floor making it a little hard to push (I'll set it back to high and down on the floor when I want to do a little resistance training). This by no mean diminished the pickup power. You could see the dust and cat hair being picked up all around the head. It is quiet too. Dialing down the suction power even makes it quieter. When we first moved to this house I had a shop vac doing the job. Noisy and heavy! I would chase the cat from room to room because she had no place to hide from that beast. This vac is easy to pull around, quiet and if you needed to carry it, small and light weight. The HEPA filter is a plus with wood floors the dust it collects. No more just blowing the dust around. I was concerned at how this would handle carpet, since I have 1 carpeted room. True this doesn't have a beater bar, but the suction seems to get way down deep. I have an upright vac that I normally use on it, and it's old and lost suction power. When I ran this over the carpet I could hear it picking up bits. Over all, it's a great vac at a great price . ... show more
