The PROGEAR HCXL 4000 has been tested up to 400 lbs. user weight capacity allowing you to walk or even jog your way to fitness at any age and body size. 1.5 Horse Power High Torque Motor utilizes "Quiet Drive" which reduces any noise when walking. Measure your target heart rate. Jog at 4mph for a vigorous workout. Extra long safety handles are 18" long, more than 2 X the length of other typical treadmill handles. The frame has been reinforced to accommodate a superior weight capacity. Speed adjusts in increments of 1/10's mph up to a maximum of 4mph. 2 position manual incline feature. Speed control buttons and on/off buttons are on the handle bars for convenience. Treadmill belt size is 40"L x 20"W. Folds up easily and then can be moved to different locations via transportation wheels. LCD display window features elapsed time, distance walked, calorie burn, speed and pulse monitoring. I am 58 years old, overweight, and have just been diagnosed with Type II Diabetes. Talk about a wake-up call. I have been advised to walk 30 minutes per day at least 4 times per week. My husband is going through health problems (CLL / leukemia, and extreme Iron deficiency, which leaves me unable to leave home to do my walking. I researched many Treadmills before deciding to purchase this one. Here are the reasons I chose this machine. #1-price was reasonable, #2-machine takes up less room than most other Treadmills, #3-machine is wider than all others I looked at, #4-handlebars are longer, with start / stop on buttons left side bar and increase / decrease buttons on right side bar, which makes it very easy to get to whenever you need to make adjustments, or stop. (I read where some people did not like this feature because it was where you naturally place your hands, so they accidentally turn machine off. This is partly true, but that is 1 of the reasons I chose this machine. The Heart rate monitor is directly below these buttons, so that is where you keep your hands.) If you are or plan to be a power walker or runner, this machine is not for you, it only goes up to 4 miles per hour. However, I will never power walk or run, so 4 miles per hour is faster than I will ever need. Why pay extra money for more machine than you need. #5-Display is easy to read, #6-info said this machine is quiet. That is an understatement. I talk with my husband while walking, without raising my voice, I watch T.V. without needing to turn volume up at all. It is unbelievably quiet, and #7-I really like the safety clip. This one has one end that clips to your clothes like a clothespin, the other end that attaches to the machine is a magnet, making it easy to pull away from machine quickly, in case of an accidental fall, very good safety feature. Box is very heavy. You will need 2 people to get box moved and in place. Once machine is out of box, it is a 1 person job to mount control panel and move to desired location. Wheels are very small, and you may be like us, at first we thought they we not in box. They are attached to frame, so even though they are small, they work well. The box was delivered with damage, however, machine was in perfect condition, due to proper protection inside of box. I have told everyone I know, buy this Treadmill. Now I am telling you. Happy Walking. P.S. I forgot to tell you, I have walked 30 minutes per day, every single day, since I have had this Treadmill. I love it! ... show more

    • Great product, nonexistent customer service
I am a 300+ pound middle-aged man with back and leg problems due to a number of blown discs over the years. I have a fair amount of trouble walking, so I wanted to try to increase my coordination and stamina with a treadmill. I was a little skeptical about this product given the price but decided it was worth the risk, given the price of the average "name brand" unit. I'm glad I did. This thing is rather amazingly solid for something of its size/price. The design is quite clever in its use of leverage to buoy up the overall sturdiness and rigidity; the "C" shape of the floor supports, uprights and grab bars, coupled with the low center of gravity, means that the thing moves around very little during use. It's also pretty quiet: the frame creaked and groaned a little when I first started using it but adjusting the floor shims and skooctching the thing around on the floor a little allowed it to settle in. The grab bars are nice and long, a real necessity in my case. The only other treadmills I found on Amazon with bars of equal or greater length cost a great deal more. Like every treadmill made since the beginning of time, the control panel sits way too far forward of the "upstream" end of the belt....apparently these things are primarily designed for use by people with the arm-length-to-body-height ratio of an orangutan. The little cubbies on either side of the control face are great for storing spare change or perhaps a cigarette lighter, but are useless for anything larger. No big deal, I used Velcro to slap my tablet, stereo remote and other gadgets all over the thing, and you can always zip-tie a holster for a water bottle to the frame somewhere. I'm seriously thinking of disabling the grab-bar-mounted controls, as they are placed where I tend to want to put my hands, but that's going to be different for everyone. Fortunately the controls are joined to the control panel by a wire harness, so I ought to be able to pull the plug on them if I decide I want to. Amazing, huh? Yes. This is a great product. However, I am deducting two stars for the company's hilariously underwhelming customer service. In the process of jiggering with the belt tensioners (a tip for new users: if you need to retension the belt, put the belt in its vertical "stored" position first. That way the retensioners are right at eye level, and you can easily look at the whole of the belt while making the adjustments), I overstressed and cracked one of the caps that cover the back ends of the foot rails. They are purely decorative, but I thought I would order a replacement, and while I was at it, ask the customer service representative about the retensioning process—how tight is too tight, etc. I called the toll-free number (nice touch), and was greeted by the worst, I mean the w o r s t voice-chip phone greeting I have ever heard in my life. If you are a fan of South Park, think of the voice of the "Shake Weight" in that episode. Its cadence and pronunciation were actually a little nauseating to listen to. I'm imagining that the owner of the company bought a turn-key hardware/software telephony package and decided to use the default voice-synth option rather than recording an outgoing message him/herself....bad move. The voice warbled at me that all CSRs were busy and that if I left my name and number someone would get back to me, so I did. Now a week later, and I have yet to hear from anyone....and I even mentioned in my message that I wanted to buy replacement parts—that is to say, that I wanted to spend more money with them. This is the dark flip-side of this amazing Information Age in which we live. The ability to asses a company before you buy their wares has diminished considerably. It is entirely possible for a single person to masquerade as a complete business, with all of the attendant infrastructure. Even an impressive Web site is just a matter of a few dollars and several hours' worth of dragging and dropping. I get the feeling that "Paradigm Health & Wellness" is one person sitting in an attached-garage office in a residential neighborhood, with maybe a decommissioned 20-foot shipping container for a "warehouse." I could very well be wrong, but nothing in my experience to date has suggested otherwise. Would I recommend buying one of these treadmills? Yes, I would; I'm very impressed with mine. But keep the packaging for the first two weeks, and maybe take pictures of the unit as packaged before assembling it so you'll know how to get it back in the box. If you have any issues, you're going to want to avail yourself of Amazon's generous return policy, because I'm not sure you will have any other options. ... show more
