    • Seems sturdy but...
I'm an air fryer newbie. So far here's what I see. It seems to be a sturdy piece of equipment - only slightly larger than the toaster oven that it replaces. My limited usage so far has gone well. There are 2 problems with the device. #1 is that if you turn the timer dial past what you really want, there's no way to turn it back. #2 is that all the knobs need some kind of gripping mechanism. They are too slick as they are. Not good. The manual says not to use the device underneath the wall cabinets. Pretty impossible in my kitchen. I have to pull the fryer out to the edge of the counter. The feet are made of rubber and don't let the fryer slide smoothly so I bought a stainless steel sheet pan to fit under the fryer. This lets it slide smoothly. But it was an extra expense in the neighborhood of $35. I'll see how it goes from here on out. ... show more

I bought this item at Costco about 2 years ago for around $100 and have only used my oven once since on Thanksgiving. My old one finally died and so I ordered this one. It does everything you could possibly want. It toasts, it bakes, it grills, and it is an awesome air fryer. I have cooked whole chickens regularly and they come out like the most delicious rotisserie chicken. It was windy and raining one day so I grilled two NY strip steaks to perfection. I have not used my grill for steaks since. Items like mini egg rolls and veggie bites come out moist in the middle and super crunchy on the outside. This product is truly amazing. ... show more

    • If you can't give up your toaster, this is for you.
After using my daughter's verical air fryer & getting burned I wanted a horizontal air fryer. I know that THEY say the vertical are the best, but I don't like getting burned removing food from a deep well. I also wanted a griller. This unit does it all. My first attempt did not get the center warm, but all things have a learning curve. What I don't like is that short cooking times cannot be told. All fryers require that you start off with a 20 minute cooking time & then reset the unit to the time that you need. There is a toasting mark, but if you specifically want 3 min. you can only guess. A lot of what I cook is 3 min. so I am frustrated a good bit. Still learning & still liking this fryer. My husband hates the space it takes on our counter, but he hates the knife block & utensil holder, so I don't take him seriously. He does not cook. I am pleased. I can still easily cook what I used to cook in the toaster oven & the drip pan is a breeze to clean. ... show more

    • Timer knob is smooth needing ridges for better grip
Like the new appliance. Eliminated 3 appliances which created a lot more room. Works great. Rotisserie did not fit two full size chickens but two Cornish game hens. The only downside encountered was the timer knob is slippery to grip. Wish it had some ridges.

The media could not be loaded. 25 February 2021 - According to the product description this PowerXL Air Fryer is supposed to come with 8 accessories, but I only received 6. The muffin pan and rotisserie spit are missing. The fryer doesn't even appear to have a rotisserie function / capability inside. There does not appear to be anyway to insert / use a rotisserie spit with this product, which is probably why it's missing. However, the company selling this product was very helpful and address my problem quickly and without any hassle. 2 March 20201 (Update) - The cook book is missing 10 of the 25 recipes listed. Based on the page numbering it looks like they may have accidently stapled two of the same sections together. If you wondering here is how the book is numbered: pages 1-2, 4-6, 15-22, 15-30, 24-31, 40-43. Here is a list of the missing recopies, which unfortunately are all the ones I would have used the most: Mac & Cheese; Buffalo Wings; Breakfast Sandwich; French Fries; Garlic Bread; Grilled NY Strip Steak; Pork Chops; Fried Chicken; Sausage Frittata; and Blackened Salmon. I also noticed the instructions say to clean the PowerXL prior to use, and to "pre heat the appliance for a few minutes to burn off any residue", which is a good idea, but they don't tell you what temperature or how long to pre heat the appliance. Some of the main comments online, and in YouTube videos, indicate it smokes a lot. I noticed the drip pan is designed to go under the bottom heating elements, which I think is a bad design. The reason being is, the drippings will come into contact with the heating elements, which will then burn and cause smoke. The appliance is not designed to allow the drip pan to be above the heating element, so I recommend always using the grill plate when cooking anything. That way the drippings will not come into contact with the heating elements and hopefully will reduce the amount of smoke. You can download a digital copy of the recipe book and manual on TristarCares.com. 3 March 20201 (Update) - The PowerXL does indeed smoke a lot. In all fairness, I was cooking French fries and bratwurst at the same time. The recipe book really doesn't have any instructions for frozen French fries, and the recipe they do have reads as if they want you to make the French fries from scratch, and there is also no recipe for cooking sausages. However, I followed their "BBQ Burgers with Fries" cooking instructions. Half way through the 40-minute process, I mixed the fries around so they would cook evenly. About 2/3 the way through the fries did not look done, but by the time the timer was up they were over cooked and slightly burnt. I really think they need to re-think their French fries cooking instructions to be more realistic. Most people, including myself, want to just open the bag of fries, dump them on the air fryer basket, and cook, so asking them to "boil the fries in water for 5 minutes" is not practical or convenient, which is the point of the PowerXL. I cooked the sausages for 20 minutes, turning them over once after 10 minutes, and they too were burnt. I did notice a reduction in smoke after the brats were turned over. It wasn't long after making my 10 second video of the smoke coming out of the appliance, which I posted with this review, that our smoke alarms went off. This occurred even though I had the kitchen door and window open to help dissipate the smoke. I also want to mention, there is no way cook a round pizza on the rack, so you will have to make it from scratch or use the Totinos' Pizza Party pizzas, which are square. The Bottom Line: If it weren't for all the smoke, this appliance would be great. I highly recommend the manufacturer try to figure out a way to either reduce the smoke or pull it away from the appliance like an air vent over a stove. Even some kind of an exhaust fan to pull the smoke away and out a kitchen window would significantly help the situation. I do not plan on using this again. I hope whoever buys it from the thrift store has better luck, but I doubt it. ... show more
