First, this is a low-budget option to get Android Auto in your car. It's essentially a lower-end android tablet but doesn't really do any of the things tablets do. It's not a perfect system as it does tend to leave wires hanging places, but it works well for what it is. The CRROPDA Car Stereo adds wireless CarPlay to my old Honda that is only equipped with an 3.5mm Aux port. So I needed to connect the included lighter power cable and use the included 3.5mm Aux cable to connect to the in car stereo. After following the instructions to connect your iPhone to the CRROPDA Car Stereo (note…you need to connect to the wifi network that the device is emitting AND also connect to the device via Bluetooth. Once connected, you can choose whether or not to sync your contacts with the device. It is pretty cool seeing your phone apps, music, and Maps on the bigger screen, similar to newer cars. Convenience… Now you won’t need to even take the phone out of your pocket. It just connects automatically the next time you enter the car. If you had music playing the last time you were in the car, that will automatically start playing. The apps I’ve used, so far, work well and as expected. I really like having Apple Maps big on the screen. The touchscreen is responsive and navigation is pretty straightforward. Overall Performance… The CRROPDA Car Stereo as a bit of a degradation in the music sound quality straight out of the box, so you absolutely need to use the built-in equalizer to tweak the sound to your liking. There is also a loudness button that may help the sound quality depending on your preferences. Once the equalizer was set to my desired preference, I was very happy with the sound quality. I think there is a lot of added benefits, especially for the price. Texting and voice recognition works well, but the prompts are quick. Voice calls work well.     • Works with caveats
It works, getting it to work was a chore all it's own though. The instructions are basic, incredibly basic and mostly useless. Getting the sound to pay from the car was a hassle. Using the aux input in the car started as a nightmare. It wanted to connect through Bluetooth, but the BT in my car is ONLY for making/receiving calls. Then it wanted to play from it's own hollow tinny speaker, if there are two they are both mono. Basically they sound worse than the cheapest of earphones. After much trail and error, frustration and anger then just about to give up, it started playing through the stereo using the aux port. Kept defaulting back, finally got it to stay. Android Auto is mainly a joke, mostly because if you use this mode the device will not use your car speakers. This is also true of the screen mirroring mode, this mode is by far the least trustworthy or reliable. You will need to download a third party app, side load it to your phone bypassing the built in security safeguards. The site to get the app is fishy enough, not having it hosted on the actual app stores is a huge red flag. It works, if you keep at it and tinker within the devices settings. I would bother with Android Auto mode, looks good on the device but limits functionality. I personally don't trust screen mirroring because of the app alone. Sketchy is putting it mildly. For what it does, a simply BT to aux/fm device would do the same easier. ... show more

    • Great upgrade for your older car
I tested out several of these "Carplay tablets" recently to see how well they work. I call them Carplay tablets because each of these units is just that - an Android tablet with a wireless Carplay and wireless Android Auto adapter built into them. My primary gripe about these is the price that they tend to sell for in the market. The actual cost of a car play adapter is around $20 and a cheap Android tablet can be had for around $30 so in reality this product should be a $79 to $100 item all day long. What I've found however is that these are routinely priced at $150 to $200 and they're just not worth that for what you get. Now, do they work? Yes - and they work quite well. Especially if you are upgrading from an older audio system that has just a tape deck or maybe CD player plus an AM/FM radio. The ability to add streaming music functionality to an analog system is massive as is the ability to add a touch screen GPS, dashcam etc into an older car without pulling the dash apart. That's the true value in these portable car play stereos - in particular if you drive a classic car and would like to have newer multimedia functionality without messing up the collectible status of your car by hacking up the dash to install something more modern - this is the way to go. ... show more
