I’m really impressed with this portable welder! It’s been a game-changer for my smaller DIY projects. The hubby really liked this! It worked very well for small projects, and it's been a nice addition to the jobsite, where he is very thankful to have it around. In spite of it's compact size, it does a decent job, and we are able to make some very much needed on the spot repairs when needed. Let me start off by saying that I can weld well enough to fix things at home, so I’m more of a hobbyist versus what most people picture in their minds when they think of a welder. Having said that, this review will be based on my limited use and first impressions. Unboxing Everything was well packed and I couldn’t find any signs of mechanical or cosmetic damage when I looked it over. Users manual The manual covers everything you need to know about the product. The manual is not a tutorial on how to weld. Weight This is very subjective, but if you have ever Stick or Mig welded then you're going to notice now much heavier this product is. It is comparable to my cordless drill/driver with a 18 volt battery. By default due to its all in one design it is going to be heavier. Since all of my welding is of a very short duration, the weight was not an issue. Size Its size is going to limit its ability to reach into tight spaces, like one can do with a conventional stick welder. For me this isn’t an issue due to the nature of my work. Construction This product seems well made. Short of dropping it on the floor, there's little that can go wrong with it. If something internally goes wrong then there is little you can do as I don’t believe there are any serviceable parts for the DIY types to fix. In use I typically use small 1/16 or 3/32 rods. The manual states that it can run rods up to ⅛. I can’t confirm that, but I think that would be the uppermost limit. Setting the current is easy enough with the adjustable thumb wheel. Inserting a rod into the welder is easy and it was held firmly in place and didn’t wobble around while in use. Trigger control is similar to that of a MiG welder. I wasn’t able to test the auto shutdown features of this product as I never ran it to its limits. Arc Ok, this is the big one. There are a lot of variables when it comes to welding, like is the metal cleaned of rust etc, do you have a good ground, are you holding it at the correct angle, and the list goes on and on. It took some practice but I was able to weld some decent beads after I got it dialed in. I didn’t cut the welds open to look at the penetration, so I can’t comment on that aspect. Accessories The storage case isn’t bad at all. The face shield and cleaning brush are um! You know what I mean (?) Summery What I like about this product is it’s so easy to set up, so I’m more likely to use it. The ground lead is built in and ready to go. Inserting a rod is easy enough and dialing it in is also easy. I don’t anticipate seeing this type of welder on a construction site anytime soon. But for the DIY types and weekend warriors this might be just what you need, used within its limitations it does a pretty good job. Model ARC - 120 ... show more

Basically all this does is takes away the leverage you would have otherwise had holding an electrode and stabilizing it with your other hand. It's very difficult to even get the spark to strike with this thing. It's just a stick welder, but instead of holding a small spike, you're holding an awkwardly bulky gun. Maybe it would be better with some getting used to and some practice, but I'm not impressed with it so far. Also, the instructions are written by a non-English-speaker and they tell you to do some outright dangerous things (for example, they tell you to power everything on AND THEN shove the stick into the welder! Not safe at all). It seems like a nice concept until you think about it for more than two seconds. ... show more

A friend is giving me beginner welding lessons using this portable welder in his basement shop. Seems to work great: he is a hobby welder and likes its features. The more I learn, the more I realize how much practice I need. Glad I got this one and will bring it home when my friend gets tired of giving me lessons! Wish I had more experience welding so I could give it a more in depth review. I'll update this review if I encounter any product problems or surprises. Recommended ... show more
