  • Where has this been all my life
Style: Deluxe Kit
This thing is amazing. I tried to make my own out of a soldering iron, but that was a bust. The tips that come with this heat up perfectly. The shape of them make it easy to smooth the work out. There is no temperature control, but you really don't need it. I use spent staples to act as rebar across the cracks. It takes a little while to get the feel of the tool to get a good looking repair, but it really is worth it. How many plastic objects I threw out, because no glue, or epoxy would hold. This came with a lifetime of plastic welding rods (with normal use). The customer service is fantastic. I called because there wasn't an instruction book . An actual person answered the phone, and he spoke English. Within a half hour, I had an attachment on an email with the entire instruction booklet. Put this in your cart now. WARNING. AND THIS IS IN THE BOOKLET. DON'T TOUCH ANY METAL PART BEYOND THE PLASTIC HANDLE WHEN PLUGGED IN. IT GETS VERY HOT ! ... show more

  • Worked Well on Motorcycle Fender Repair
Style: Standard Kit
Was a bit hesitant to use this product, especially because I was repairing a PP (Polypropylene) motorcycle fender. The tab that bolts on to the bike had completely snapped off the fairing and I wasn't sure how to repair it. Read that PP can be hard to repair as some epoxy putties and adhesives don't adhere as well, or sometimes at all. Also read that PP has to be heated to 575 degrees to be welded and this plastic welder says its rated only at 525. When I got the product, it came with everything listed and brand new. I plugged in the welder right away and heated it for about 10 minutes before I used it. During that time I prepped the fairing as noted in the instructions. A simple sanding to create more surface area/grooves at the joint and a good clean after did the trick. I first started by slowing melting the tab back on to the fairing with just the heat, being super slow and careful to not overheat it. Once the OEM plastic was melted together I then reinforced it with the provided plastic welding rods. Worked perfectly. The tab is completely back on to the fairing and seems very strong. It bends a little and should hold up to all the vibrations on my motorcycle. Couldn't be happier at the result and saved me hundreds of dollars buying a new fairing or getting it repaired. TIPS: Preheat the welder for 10 minutes. Prep your plastic really well. Have an open workspace and well-ventilated area (maybe have a fan pointed at the plastic to blow all the plastic fumes away from your face). Most importantly, TAKE YOUR TIME. This process can take very long but if you want to get a good weld you need to take your time and watch everything you're doing. I often rotated the welding tip because I found myself melting parts I didn't want to touch. Manipulate the rod and put heat where you want it. My technique was to put the plastic welding rod on the area I wanted plastic, then applied the welder to heat it up and melt it. I would slowly pull the plastic rod away while pressing slightly down on the rod until part of the rod melted off the stick and stayed at the area. Once a piece of plastic was detached and at the repair area I heated it up and worked it into place. Super happy with this product. Great value and did exactly what it was supposed to do. Highly recommend. ... show more

  • Almost a good welder
Style: Deluxe Kit
This plastic welding kit is a very good kit but it lacks three important features. First off it needs to be 100 watts. 80 watts is barely enough to weld higher temp plastics such as hdpe which makes it slow to use. Secondly, would be nice to a power switch on the handle instead of having to unplug it all the time. Lastly, these cheap welders from China need to be built with better heating elements. I know they try to make these as cheap as possible to make money but the element is the most important part and should be higher quality. My last one lasted only a few uses. Since it's almost impossible to buy anything made in America anymore my options were limited. I didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a tool I only use rarely. Dammed if you do, dammed if don't! ... show more

  • Good for kayak repair
Style: Deluxe Kit
This kit worked well for the kayak repair shown in the video. The kayak is made from Polyethylene. The plastic welding kit came with Polypropylene rods and Polyplaz sticks. I used the Polyplaz and they seemed to work well, melting and molding easily. Lots of noxious fumes melting those, so a good mask is advisable. I also used the wire screen included in the kit as part of the repair. ... show more

  • Fixed expensive car part and GREAT customer service
Style: Deluxe Kit
You might think this company would not have great customer service because it seems kind of like a chinese generic reseller. But I actually had the best customer service ever with them. I did something to the heater which you are not supposed to do and which is clearly described in the instructions (do NOT remove the little screw to change tips!!), and they took care of the situation for me even though it was my fault. They communicate quickly and I would imagine if you had technical questions about using this system on plastic the would probably be very helpful. And besides the customer service, I used this to repair a very expensive plastic car part and it seems to have worked well. You do need to get a bit creative because not all plastic cracks or damage are as simple as just two flat pieces being joined,so you have to make up some creative ways to make things molten and join them in a good way, but the plastic and the welder make it possible to solve problems in lots of ways. Its a pretty simple system after all, you are just melting plastic together. I feel confident I could repair lots of plastic things now to the point where I kind of wonder what I have that I might be able to fix. ... show more
