  • Excellent value. Very FAST. Very impressive prints.
I have been FDM printing for about 6 years. I generally use my printers for engineering and functional designs. This is my first resin printer. I chose the Sonic Mini over others primarily for its screen life and speed. The printer is well constructed. The case is plastic, but all of the motion parts are machined aluminum or steel. It uses a linear rail for excellent stability. It does have some UV leakage from the rear of the unit, but I imagine that is an unavoidable effect of ventilating the interior. It does not appear to affect the prints. The unit is extremely quiet while operating. Using Siraya Tech resins, this printer is capable of amazing detail and dimensional accuracy. I have printed several threaded pieces, and they assemble flawlessly. Due to the LCD pixelation the detail is not perfect, sort of a satin finish, but still several orders of magnitude better than an FDM printer. The prints it produces are perfectly usable as functional parts. I am happy this version came with an aluminum vat, as reports are that the original plastic vat was cracking and virtually unusable. I also purchased an angled build plate, so basically all of the negatives associated with this printer are addressed. I WOULD like to see Phrozen include the angled plate as standard equipment in the future. The best way to avoid problems with the FEP is to use a couple drops of 3inOne PTFE lubricant on the film. Wipe it in with a lint free cloth and let it cure. I usually go overnight after a clean up. You will not see any sticking to the film at all. It has zero effect on the print quality. (Thanks to YouTube's Uncle Jessy for this tip.) Thus far I am extremely satisfied with this purchase, and should I need higher volume output I will definitely consider buying another. ... show more

  • A workhorse printer for a bargain - ignore older reviews this machine rocks now!
I own numerous 3d printers and the Phrozen Sonic Mini has out produced all of them. The biggest negative to the machine is the flat build plate. If you can afford it, be sure to include the angled build plate - it will save you from messy situations. I own two Elegoo Mars, two Sonic Minis, an Epax X1 and X10, and an Anycubic Photon. The Sonic Mini's have been reliable and consistent. The only negative is finding support for resin profiles. However, the print time is so fast with the monochromatic screen that you can rapidly test your settings until you have it dialed in. PROS ⦁ Workhorse printer - lcd lasts 2k hours ⦁ Fast print times - prints 2x as fast as a Elegoo Mars or Photon ⦁ Parrallel UV array means quality and consistent prints ⦁ Auto Leveling buildplate. No cheap ball joint. ⦁ Solid electronics. ⦁ Quality brand and support. ⦁ Inexpensive - $249 for a monochromatic printer is a steal in today's market. CONS ⦁ Flat Build Plate - resin pools on top ⦁ You really should buy the angled plate - adds $40 to the cost ⦁ Machine is durable but very plasticy. ⦁ Vat tray holder system means you can't use Vats from other brands. ⦁ Power supply design makes it hard to plug into a surge protector alongside other printers. ⦁ Not as high of build volume as other similarly priced printers The end result is not a perfect machine but one that is best in class when compared to other similarly priced printers. ... show more

  • Love it, looking to get larger printer!
My wife and I were looking into getting in 3D printing. Her for her online business and me for nerdy stuff. So to start it was well packaged and easy to set up and get calibrated. It came with a plastic scrapper for the vat, a metal scrapper for the built plate, a funnel, gloves, and hex tool. We were excited and immediately got to printing. Our first couple print jobs failed, but that wasn't necessarily due to the printer. I did some research and updated the firmware for the printer and changed how we were supporting the miniatures. Next print was a success! We were off to the races! Since then we have done a dozen or so prints, and all were a success. I provided a few pictures of some prints. One issue is that you have to transfer files from your comp to the printer using a USB drive, and sometimes the printer doesn't recognize a USB is installed at all. You have to take it out and reformat the USB stick to get the printer to recognize it. The detail is great. Easy to use. Well built machine. Fairly quick too. Pros - Easy to use - Well built - Great details in minis - Some tools included Cons - Needed firmware update - Have to keep formatting USB drive - Top of build plate was the angled version (resin pools on top) Over all it is great and I recommend it to anyone wanting to get into resin 3D printing. ... show more
