  • Preferable to the More Expensive Model
I had been using an expensive Norelco model from Costco purchased on one their frequent specials. Costco is now offering only a very similar model also on special at about twice the price as when I bought mine. My expensive model is failing because the head assembly plugs into a universal joint held in place by a tiny weakening spring-held bar, resulting in the heads dropping to the floor while being operated. The trimmer is a separate piece that needs to be stored somewhere and plugged into the same universal joint instead of the heads. It does have a convenient recharging base. I can find no apparent difference with this less expensive 2300 model in giving a close shave. It has a very convenient trimmer that pops out of the side of the shaver, which is always there and always available. It does require plugging it into the cord after shaving, which is less convenient than a recharging base. It does not have the expensive-looking travel case of the more expensive model, but this would be just something else to store for use at home. Battery (not lithium) charge might be expected to be less, but that doesn't matter much for home use. All in all, I prefer this less expensive 2300 model to the one costing more than twice as much, even neglecting price considerations. ... show more

  • Sharp but slow
I've been using my new Philips Norelco Shaver 2300 Rechargeable Electric Shaver for about a week, in November 2022. My old Philips 9160 XL shaver is out of action due to a broken part in its shaver head holder. Philips seems to not be continuing to supply parts for its older shavers like the 9160. Findings: The 2300 is sharp, but it shaves about half as fast per square inch of skin as my older Philips 9160 XL shaver. The 2300 takes many passes to get a skin area well shaved. I have to move it more slowly or it does not cut well. I think this difference is entirely due to the older(?) type of single track shaver cutting head structure in the 2300, vs. the triple head structure in the 9160 (3 concentric cutter circles per head). Good: The 2300 is moderately priced and it runs quietly. It charges nicely but slowly, taking several hours to recharge after shaving once. It has a charging light that goes out when fully charged. It feels and looks good, and it handles nicely and runs quietly. It can be rinsed off under tap water. I got no skin damage from using the 2300. Not too good: The 2300 just acts like an early model of electric shaver, nice but obsolete. The 2300 does not indicate when its battery is about to quit. It does not show the percentage of charge in the batteries. It does not shave efficiently or much per pass along the skin and takes me about twice as long to do a shave as my older Philips 9160 XL. The 2300 has three shaver heads each with only a single round cutting track which is 3 tracks total per shaver, vs. the 9160 which has 3 concentric tracks in each of 3 shaving heads, which is 9 tracks total per shaver. Summary: As a substitute for my old and possibly dead 9160, I think the 2300 is OK, but I would want something more efficient and faster as a permanent replacement for the 9160. I would recommend the 2300 for temporary use while you are looking for a more efficient current model shaver. I certainly welcome its presence right now, when it is my only shaver! I am still seeking a permanent replacement for my 9160. ... show more

  • Unbelievable - amazing, outstanding; you will never go back to shaving cream
As a lifelong hater of shaving, I was skeptical, to say the least. so my hair was 2 weeks old, and very long: i used the pop-up trimmer on its back and it removed the hair, then after 1 min of that, used the normal 3 round ones and it shaves as close as Gilette. it's unreal, unbelievable; if you shave more often than me, once every 3-5 days, as i may do it from now on, your hair will be so short to start with, that you won't need the pop-up trimmer. no shaving cream, no waste of disposable razors, no water toxicity, no water waste, the blade lasts 4 years for twice a week shaving, etc. it's way more eco-friendly and sustainable than trashing 300 disposable razors in the trash, amounting to 200 times the weight of landfills or recycling if you take time to separate metal from plastic. plus less wastewater filtration from shaving cream, less retrograde axon transport of shaving cream toxins to eyes and neurons of the face, etc, and ear, less time wasted, plus 0 cuts, 0 pain, etc. it's overall like a tesla model s versus a car from 1900. :) if i knew this 20 years ago, i would have used this all the time. :) nobody tells you, in college or anything, we learn the most useless stuff. ... show more

  • It Shaves Cleanly
I had previously bought the Philips-Norelco S6540 model at a major member warehouse but was dissatisfied with its performance. It took much longer going over and over my face and still not removing the stubble. My older Philips-Norelco shaver gave a much cleaner shave, but the cost of replacement heads was ridiculous. The S6540 model has interchangeable heads; one for shaving and another for trimming, but swapping out heads is less convenient. My older shaver had a flip-up trimmer built in. So I searched around and found this S2300 model. Not only does it give a nice clean shave like my older Philips, but it's much cheaper than the S6540. ... show more

  • Not as good as a corded Norelco shaver
I have shaved with electric Norelco shavers for almost 50 years. This is my first rechargeable model and have used it for over a year. PLUSES: flip-up cutter head for easy cleaning, no cord to wrestle with, holds a week's charge. MINUSES: only one . . . the cutter head spins slower than corded Norelco shavers so it takes longer to shave my face. I keep my corded Norelco in my travel bag and my cordless Norelco at home so I get to compare them regularly. Except for the cord, I prefer the performance of the corded Norelco. ... show more
