Like many men who start shaving their heads, I spent several years using a traditional safety razor. Bumps, nicks, and general irritation were constant hassles for me. Then a friend turned me on to the Flex Series Shaver from Freedom Shavers. It worked far better than a safety razor and caused far less irritation (not 100% less, but significantly less). However, within 6 months, the first one died. Wouldn't turn on, wouldn't charge ... just dead. I figured it must be user error, so I purchased a second one. Within 4 months, it died. So I gave upon that shaver and decided to try the Pitbull Gold Pro. Immediately, as soon as I opened the box, I knew I was dealing with a higher quality item. They smartly included a water-proof charging port plug to avoid water damage in the shower. Admittedly, it was larger in size, which makes it a little more unwieldy than the Flex Series. But it offers a couple of different ways to hold it while shaving - holding the top and palming the blades. I love the digital display that shows the charge percentage. And you can really tell they've used quality parts in it. Not as much of that cheap plastic that the Flex Series is built with. But the big difference is in the shave. I could never get a decent dry shave with the Flex Series. Ever. No matter how many passes. But with the Pitbull Gold Pro, the DRY shave feels as close as the wet shave with the Flex Series. And the wet shave feels as close as a straight razor. I'm thoroughly impressed. Of course, this early in the game, I can't speak to the Gold Pro's longevity, but I'm very happy with my purchase from a shaving perspective. I've yet had to deal with swapping out the blades (which I had to do every 20 shaves with the Flex Series), and I haven't had the battery run out yet. In short, I would recommend spending that additional $15 or so and upgrade from the Flex Series to the Pitbull Gold Pro. ... show more

I made the mistake of buying a Pitbull gold knockoff in early 2024. It was $50 cheaper but it didn’t work well, the replacement head didn’t fit and 6 months later the original generic cutter head “blew up”. The cutter head on the generic literally went flying into pieces when I started it last week. The replacement head I bought for the generic didn’t fit. Of course that generic is now “unavailable” on Amazon. Gee, I wonder why? The Pitbull gold has a great feel, is easy to use, it cuts much closer and better than the generic, it has a power percentage readout and it came 100% charged. It’s very effective at smooth hair removal. The Pitbull recharges quickly and the cutter head is much better made. I caught a Black Friday deal on the Pitbull gold which reduced the pain. The Pitbull is very portable and I ordered a case for it to protect the unit. The old age adage “pay once, cry once” applies here. I wish I had bought the Pitbull first which means once and for all. The photo of my cranium shows the shave quality of the Pitbull. That mark on my head is not a melanoma, it’s a thump mark from a schedule 40 pipe on my high tech furnace. I have tried lots of other shavers and this one hits the mark. First use in 3 minutes a perfect close head shave, smooth as silk. The best part is the blades come out like the old norelcos. One quarter twist thrump screws and each blade comes out for easy cleaning. Love it

I've been using this line of shavers for about 2 years now. The battery just died on the first one, and I just ordered a replacement so I figured I'd leave a review. First of all - battery issues? Yes. The first two weeks I used my shaver, I thought all the reviews about the poor battery life were either unlucky or outside the norm. Then one day about two weeks in, I started shaving with the battery at 50% and it abruptly died mid-shave. After that I noticed the battery would decrease normally (about 3-5% for each five minute shave), but once it hit around 50 or 60%, the battery would drop 1% every second until it hit zero. I thought this was fine - I have to charge the shaver every week, so what? The problem is, this "battery drop off" point kept creeping higher and higher over the past year and a half until recently, when the battery died as I started shaving at 92%. I had been recharging the shaver after every two shaves already, so I figured this was time to get a new shaver. If the new one follows the same pattern, I'll be reasonably satisfied if the battery gets me through two years. After reading about battery charging and battery life, the plan is to use the shaver until 60%ish battery, then charge up to 90%ish each time - might help, might not. So why buy the same shaver if the first one had such an unreliable battery? I haven't used any other electric head shavers out there, but I had been shaving my head with a safety razor for a few years before I tried the Pitbull. I can't say anything about the other shavers, but my skin is pretty sensitive, so I am hesitant to try new shavers - and the Pitbull is pretty good in this regard. The four bladed (I think it's called the Forte) attachment that comes with the shaver doesn't irritate my skin, and is fairly reliable (I only broke the first one by dropping it multiple times - my bad). I'd say that shaving against the grain with the shaver gets my hair very close to what a safety razor would get (also going against the grain). Obviously it's not quite AS short, but the difference is maybe 6 hours or so of hair growth for me. It's definitely closer than shaving with the grain with a safety razor, and shaving against the grain with a razor can cause irritation for me anyways. So the quality of the shave is fairly good, I only have to shave every 2 days to maintain a clean look. But the best advantage of the Pitbull is TIME. It only takes 5-7min to shave your head, rather than the 20min it would take me with a safety razor. I'd recommend using conditioner on your head when using this shaver, using shave soap and a brush will actually get the blades of the Pitbull coated with soap that doesn't easily come off, and the bristles of the brush will occasionally come off and get sucked into the shaver - which messes with the blades and is annoying to clean. Conditioner is easy to wash off, all you have to do is rinse with hot water, and the shave is smooooooth. TLDR: Buy to save time. Shaves pretty close to safety razor, if not 'baby bottom smooth'. Do a favor and use conditioner instead of all the other shaving products. Yeah, battery kind of sucks. ... show more
