I've been using a Norelco OneBlade forever, but decided to get a "real" shaver in the hopes that I would finally start a regular shaving routine. Since I've started shaving more than 30 years ago, I've never liked doing it, and never have done so regularly. As I'm getting older, I've realized that half crazed lumberjack is not a good look, and decided that I should try to find a shaver that I'd be OK using every other day or so. I've been impressed with this shaver. My facial hair is a like a cowlick -- it seems that the hair grows in every direction. That's why I chose this kind of shaver instead of a foil shaver. Does it shave as good as a straight razor? No. I don't think any electric shaver does. This shaver does as good as any, though, and importantly to me it's easy to use and doesn't require a lot of time. The little "flip out" trimmer on the side is a bit weak, though, and somewhat of an afterthought. Pro tip for the charging ... if you search on Amazon, you can find some adapters and cables that permit you to use a regular USB-C charger (20watts or more I believe), which is super nice for traveling instead of having to take along yet another charger. Daily cleaning is easy. I run the shaver under the faucet for 5-10 seconds. Then I turn off the shaver, pop open the top, and run that under the faucet. It comes with a cleaning pod that is dead simple to use. I used it for the first time today. You insert the shaver head first into the cleaning pod, turn on the shaver, and it does its magic for 60 seconds. I'm going to try using the pod once a month or so, which means (I think) I'll need to get a new pod every 6 months or something. They're pretty cheap, too. It does come with a travel case, which is good. They suggest replacing the blades every year. I'll try to assess how I feel the shaving quality is at 6 months, and decide whether to replace them sooner. They're a little on the pricey side, but that's expected. There is a lot of technology that is built in that thankfully you don't have to use. It can connect to an app on your phone via Bluetooth. I don't need yet another thing connected to my phone, thank you very much. That is, I don't need yet another inanimate object passing judgment on me. My watch already can tell me I'm not washing my hands well enough. I don't need my shave passing judgment, either. However, there is one tech feature that I thought would be gimmicky but that is wonderful. There is a light ring around the head of the unit that senses pressure. If you press the shaver too lightly or gently against your face, it stays blue. When you hit the "zone" where it's the right pressure for optimal shaving, it turns green. And if you press too hard, it turns yellow. Who knew that after all these years I wasn't pressing my shavers with enough force against my face?!? And guess what -- it works better when I stay in the zone. This is the type of technology I like. One last comment. I liked it enough that my wife got one for herself, even though the shaver doesn't seem to be marketed to women. She says it's the best shaver she's used as well. ... show more

I purchased this shaver to replace a five year old Norelco which had seen better days. My old shaver needed new blades but apparently, the company had ceased to make or sell the blades for my old shaver, so I purchased a set of aftermarket heads on Amazon. That was a mistake. The "new" heads did a lousy job, so I bit the bullet and purchased this one, the newest high-end model. That turned out to be the best decision I could have made. The shave I get now rivals a conventional blade. Smooth, clean and neat. If you are using an electric shaver, I highly recommend the 9800 model. It is rather expensive, but worth every penny. I get a much closer and faster shave using the Norelco Series 9000 razor than with the top rated foil shavor which I tried my best to use and like. The Norelco rotary shave is more comfortable, easier to use, faster, and does a better job. I tried a safety razor in between the foil and the Norelco but did not get a closer shave. ... show more

    • Great shave, but a little bulky

I bought this after trying (and hating) the Panasonic ARC5 that so many people rave about. This razor blows the ARC5 out of the water, delivering a very close shave with minimal effort. I was particularly impressed by how close the shave was on my neck, with minimal irritation after I gave my skin time to adjust to it. The GroomTribe app is neat at first but isn't particularly necessary (and it feels very dystopian to have to connect my razor to Bluetooth) and I've recently stopped using it. I like the LED pressure indicators and feel that while I've never had problems before, my shaving technique has definitely improved since buying this razor. Cleaning the razor is easy with the provided cleaning station, and refills of the cleaning solution are not too expensive. I rated this razor 4 stars instead of 5 because it is a little bulkier than any other razor I've had, making it slightly awkward to hold. Additionally, the width of the shaving head makes it difficult to get a good shave above my lip without hitting my nose. And I've found that the attached trimmer is not as effective as on previous Norelco models, so I tend not to use it. But all in all I think this razor and all of its features are worth the money. ... show more

I have used a lot of electric shavers in my days and I can honestly say this thing is IT. I get the smoothest shave, easy to use/clean. I would recommend to anyone who is skeptical of electric shavers. Might be a bit pricy but it's well worth it.

    • Does the Job but Does not Represent a Step Forward in Overall Design

My trusty Norelco shaver of many years was finally starting to make strange sounds so replaced it. The new model does as good a job of shaving which is what I bought it for so I'm giving it 5 stars. The easy way to flip the top open for cleaning is nice. The graphic display is OK and I really like the travel lock capability. I have no interest in a blue tooth connection to an extra app on my phone which will provide some diagnostic information that I don't feel adds any value added - this is just a razor. The blue/green/amber lighting to show how close one is shaving seemed silly but turns out to be OK. The overall size of the unit seems larger than necessary and ergonomically a little awkward but the weight is reasonable. The square geometric shape of the shaver head assembly is a definite step backward from previous designs and limits how close one can get sideburns, mustache, etc. and requires the flip-up trimmer which is just OK at best. Overall, the razor does what I need but would have been better if it was smaller and a little more contoured in shape with less frills. ... show more
