Our rescue has just tested positive for Heartworm, so as we prepare for treatment (which includes exercise restrictions), we needed to get a crate. We bought the biggest one: 40 Inches for Large Dogs. Our girl is only 53 pounds, so there is plenty of room in there for her, her blankets, a couple toys and some water...with plenty of room to get up and stretch and turn-around. It's sturdy and was easy to put together...and it should be very easy to clean. We have had PetMate kennels/crates in the past so this is exactly what we expect from them. Above, where Amazon asked me to rate it for travel, I only gave it 2 stars. If you needed it for constant travel in your car and were going to leave it there...great! If you need to transport it in and out of the car, in and out of the house, in and out of room...it would be difficult with this large crate. It's not really too heavy once all assembled, but it's so big, it would be awkward to carry. There are no handles on the sides or top like there are on smaller crates. This is being used by my 15-week-old toy poodle. Plenty of room for her and should have enough room when she is grown. She's around 4 lbs now and should be around 7.5 lbs when grown. Sturdy enough to carry her in without sagging. Plenty of ventilation and openings in the plastic do not have any sharp edges. The door's effective opening size seems smaller than I expected even after measuring with a comparable crate. The door has been a challenge as it doesn't open easily. Putting it together at first was challenging as one of the door hinges arrived bent but I was able to straighten it out so that it would fit into the openings. I'll follow up to see if perhaps I can get a replacement door to resolve this issue. ... show more

This worked fine for a short time for my anxiety ridden 50 lb. dog. There's a plastic cover over the latches that broke immediately. After a few months, she completely broke the door. I ordered a replacement door and she broke it on the first try. If you have a normal dog who's crate trained, this is just fine. I got this for my ~70lb dog that had anxiety and would find ways to break out of the wire kennels. This was a little more, but let me tell you. Idk why, but his anxiety is better in this one, and his bed fits perfectly. The dimensions given are OUTER, not inner. Inner they are 32.5 x 21 x 27. That is way smaller inside than expected. It is listed as a 36" long crate so I bought a 36" long crate mat which is way too big. Not happy.

My dog is quite the Houdini. I got this because he escaped his wire crate a few times. He made it about a week before he was able to finagle the whole door of this one (still have no clue how). I have a 1 year old basset hound. She has extreme separation anxiety and will claw out of anything mesh or of cloth-like material so I need something sturdy. My puppy is long and this crate is huge which I love because that means I can have it for a long time.
