I used this to automate my sliding pet door and for the price it is ok. The collar has to be really close for the magnet to work, my cat and small dog can leave whenever they want then the sensor only works for letting them back in. My neighbor’s cat can claw open the flap from the outside by the weatherstripping and let herself in. It keeps all other critters out so it works for me. It needs to come with an AC option with battery back up for power outages. Other than that, and my neighbors cat getting in this is an ok product. ... show more

    • Works but keep in mind it's not bi-directional locking
Our good old but freakishly expensive Solo pet door has been dying a slow death for the last couple years. We have a dog and some cats. The dog is allowed out, while the cats are not. This has always been a problem with the Solo, which has a magnetic guillotine-type door opening. We decided to replace it with this Perfect Pet Electronic E-Cat door, which fit the existing opening (in a wood door) with little modification. We got it installed and were immediately taken aback that, in the locking mode, it allows any pet to escape outside but requires the magnet tag to get in. We'd hoped the locking mechanism was bi-directional, meaning it requires a magnet to enter AND to leave. When I left the door in unlocked mode while our dog was learning, one of our cats figured it out immediately and let himself out. So, the solution was to flip the pet door, i.e., the dial is now on the outside. Now, of course, any animal on the outside can come in; luckily that hasn't yet occurred. It took our dog about two weeks to learn how to use the new door, and NONE of the cats have gotten out because the flap closes behind the dog quickly. One other thing - we're not using the magnet tag the door came with. It's too weak. I use two small but strong neodymium ring magnets hooked onto an aluminum clip to attach to our dog's collar. The dog is happy and actually seems to have fun hopping in and out, and we're happy the cats stay safely inside. ... show more

    • Magnetic "key" dangerous to my cat
*WARNING* If you read nothing else, just know the "key" is a magnet and my cat was getting stuck to the refrigerator by his neck 😿 I have an adult allowed outside and a new kitten. Sometimes the adult needs his own space and he's allowed outside. Tired of being his personal doorman, I thought this would be a great option. What I like is the door opening size and it was easy to install. Now the dislikes. Grab some popcorn. The "indoor" side has the controls. Free flow through both ways through the door. If you need this simple option, just buy a flap. Lock/unlock with the "key" which needs to make full contact with the bottom part of the door to unlock. It also takes about 10 seconds to lock again. Full lock which doesn't not allow access in/out through the door. With moderate pressure, the plastic piece held the door in place, but it would not hold back a determined critter. Problem # 1 - The key only intends to let the cat through one direction (outside to inside). Anything that can push the flap from the other side can gain access. I decided to just flip it around putting the controls on the outside. It would atleast allow my cat to unlock the door and let himself out, while it locks behind him and leaves the kitten inside. However the flip side will again allow anything that can push the flap from the outside to come in. I live in a second floor apartment with deck access so there is less worry for me. Problem # 2 - is the "key" does not work. In testing it myself I had to touch the "key" directly to the door to allow it to unlock and then push the door open. Problem # 3 - The "key" is a magnet. I used my cats existing collar and attached the "key" to the metal piece, but it always gets flipped and stuck to the metal. So then I moved his pet tag and the "key" to the provided collar which by the way was difficult to attach, but I understand why it contains no metal. My cat hates the door, but I was willing to see if he would get used to it. I feed him special treats on top of the fridge the kitten is not allowed to have. My poor cat was getting his neck yanked down from the magnet attaching to the top of the fridge. I took it off immediately and I won't be using this product. ... show more

I ordered this and got basically the thing I ordered with now 9V battery, but it had an electrical plug. I thought maybe the battery was internal and rechargeable but no, it needs to be plugged in. I'm using it on an inside door to allow one of the cats in and out of the Master bedroom. it was easy to install, it comes with a template so you can mark the dimensions. screws hold it together from either side and it seems pretty sturdy. The door flap itself has a magnet at the bottom so it closes back without a bunch of swinging after it's been passed through. The one I got has an adjustment screw/knob for the maximum range to detect the 'key'. it definitely latches/unlatches from both directions, though when it unlocks it stays that way for what seems like a long time. I ended up with one that needs to be plugged in. The included cord was not long enough to go up, over, and around the door frame, so I've got an extension cord running down part of my wall, which is safer than having it across the floor because everyone else in my house trips over things constantly. Final comment: because Amazon has a problem where items get listed, removed, and re-listed, if you're seeing this review know that the thing I'm talking about, what you're looking at right now, and the thing that arrives at your house may not be the same thing. If you're able to find a brick-and-mortar that sells this kind of stuff that might be a better bet to get what you really wanted. ... show more
