Works great as a humid hide for my leopard geckos. They are textured enough for them to crawl on them, and rub on them to assist with shedding. It does have a strong smell initially but after a long soak in hot water, and thoroughly drying it is gone now.

    • Good product, opening too small for large pets
I have an adult bearded dragon (about a foot or so long) and she is not able to climb inside. She still enjoys sitting on the rock but if you have a large reptile I would recommend something bigger.

I got this for my ball python and left it in with her for about a week or two and had no interest what so ever. Cleaned it and put it in with my growing blue tongued skink, I originally got it for him but was scared that he wouldn’t know how to get out, he loves it none the less

    • Strong chemical smell, not good
The item smelled strongly of super-glue or some other chemical resin upon opening the package, the smell did not clear out for several hours, even after trying to wash it out with bleach, rubbing alcohol, and hot soapy water. As far as I'm concerned this is completely unacceptable for any item which is to be used for animals and this hasn't been an issue with any similar items from other brands. ... show more

I should have listened to the previous reviewer. I thought I would give this a try since it's such a cute idea but, sadly, it smelled of chemicals and there was no way I would put it anywhere near our Beardie. I even soaked the inside with vinegar overnight, to no avail.

So, I didn't buy this from amazon, but bought the exact product from a local pet store in preparation for a new snake. It ended up being too small, but I can't fault the company for that because I picked the item off a shelf and could clearly see how large it was. The reason I give four stars is because there are some sharp edges inside that are sharp enough to cause injury to animals. The product itself is a poured cement type stone (not plastic or resin) that is too heavy to tip over, which is awesome. It holds heat well, and is very porous and absorbs some moisture. If placed under a lamp, it would make a decent basking spot for small reptiles, but the top is fairly round, not flat, so it isn't the best for that. Mine did not smell like anything at all... It was just like a rock from outside. It would definitely sink in water and I could see it being good for cichlids or shrimp. I think it would hold moss well too. It is kind of like pottery, so I could see it shattering if it were dropped on a hard floor. Cleaning the inside would be difficult because it does not come apart, and it is fairly porous. Overall, I like it and am hanging onto it in case I need it in the future. I could see myself buying more if I needed them. They are nice little hides. ... show more
