This charger was recommended by UVA in their how-to papers as a means of discouraging black bears from destroying bee yards. I can attest that it in fact does discourage black bears which have left my hives in peace the last two years. Amazon delivered the unit very quickly, the battery was pre-charged which ultimately saved the remnants of my yard from Yogi and Boo-boo. It has operated flawlessly for two years, it is able to hold charge from March thru December, and with a spare battery, I am able to bridge any gaps in charge. Batteries charge very easily. And last a long time in the unit when it gets shaded. After just under two years of operation, the charger stopped working, but the manufacturer stood behind the charger and fixed it for free. They returned the charger within a week. It was excellent service. There is a two year warranty, very generous given all the stuff that can happen. They also apparently service outside of warranty. Works as expected. It is heavy (an indication that it is well built) so mounting requires some thought. I sank a 6 1/2 foot post one ground and then attached a short piece of a scrap 2x6 and mounted the unit to the 2x6. Once installed, it’s very easy to use. I have this unit powering a fence around my garden to keep the deer out as in past years they either eat or trample my plants. (This was the only solar unit that was big enough to deter deer). So far, I’ve not lost 1 plant. And while this unit is a bit expensive if it lasts for years as I expect it will, then I’ll have fresh, homegrown veggies. ... show more

Expensive, but it works dependably. Much better than the same companies 6 volt which is limp for cattle. This 12 volt actually gets the cattle's attention and keeps them in. Grounding is VERY important. Strongly recommend getting digital read out meter to test and trouble shoot. Running three of these on large (over 75 acre) pastures successfully. ... show more

    • Two Parmaks had Factory Defects. Terrible Product and Experience

Ordered my first Parmak and it functioned for a few weeks then failed. Discovered a soldered wire had popped free from its circuit board. Figured the factory warranty would take care of it. Sent it to the factory at my own expense. It arrived in late July. I called about it at the start of October. They confirmed it was on their shelf and that they would "move it to the head of the line." Haven't heard a thing from them since then and the charger has not been delivered as of 10/23/23 I foolishly purchased a second Parmak charger figuring I needed a backup. The second charger outputs a fraction of what it should, no idea why. When I contacted the factory they said it needed to be sent to them for repairs. I have had to buy a third fence charger, Intellishock. It's more expensive but it works as advertised. The Parmaks were cheaper, but since neither do their job they are worthless In summary, I purchased two Parmaks. One quickly failed, the other barely functions. I had to pay shipping costs to send the completely broken one for warranty covered repairs and its been gone for three months with no updates from the company. Arrived fast, easy set up. Hopefully it works better than the first parmak charger purchased which was the reason for this purchase. First one failed after two months and gave no indication of a problem. Checked fence every day and then it went, customer service said mail it back and they will warranty. I paid for shipping and then two weeks after mailed was told it would be another 8 weeks for service. Hopefully this one works. ... show more

We are using this to charge the fence around a couple of bee hives. We had purchased a different brand that was not meeting its advertised voltage. This installed easily and should give any bears a good jolt. My husband had a couple of questions and called the company. Used this for a 40'x40' 5 wire bee enclosure for some hives. I was warned about bears so I put this up. About a month after setting the bees up I went out and one of my tbars was bent to a 45 so something heavy tried to push through the fence but was deterred and didn not make it into the enclosure. LOVE this! We needed a solar charger that we could use on our pasture since we don't have electricity run to our barn yet - this fit the bill! We ran 3 strands of Electrobraid poly rope on capped t-posts and grounded the EB using the recommended 3 copper rods and I couldn't be happier. My horses won't even get close to the fence. I did sit the charger outside for 3-4 days prior to using it - used my phone's compass to ensure it was pointing due south and I've not had an issue at all. It holds a charge VERY well, recharges well and does everything we need it to do! So glad I went ahead and "bit the bullet" and got a really nice solar charger! I also recommend the Parker Mccrory 00910 Anti-Theft Mounting Bracket if you are planning to mount on a t-post like we did. Super happy with this purchase!!! UPDATE: 12/5/2016 - This charger is just amazing! It is still registering strong and my horses have a great respect for the fence. About to put up another fence and will most likely use this same model again. Why pay for electricity when this will do the job? We are super pleased. ... show more
