I Initially got these pots for my mom who has dementia. She overwaters all her indoor plants. Now she can see that when the reservoir is empty or full, and now the plants don't drown or the extra water doesn't flow out onto her dresser! The strong magnets that hold the top and bottom are actually strong enough that she cant pull them apart. I also created a design for the front using my Cricut and some permanent vinyl! She absolutely loves it. I will be putting some designs on the remaining pots as well, before adding my plants. The smaller pot, I have in a macrame hanger in a window.     • Lightweight, easy to use, and maintain

These are very easy to assemble and use. It comes in 3 pieces. Inner container with drainage holes (colored), outer container (cream), and a strip of cloth per planter. To assemble, just put the cloth through the drainage holes and fill up the planter as you normally would and add water. They are narrow so you can put them horizontally to see more, or if you don't have space, stack them and they are pretty compact. I've used them for chives, other herbs, and lettuce and they are really happy in there and I only water once a week normally and twice a week when there is a heat wave. The containers are small, so measure what you want to plant in them beforehand. Herbs are fine. The lettuce was too big/planter too small. Over time, the dirt gets out of the inner container and so the interior of the outer container starts to look dirty and fogs up with screen where you see water levels. I use a towel and wipe/rinse that out every few months. And when the plants get larger, the roots wrap around the strip of cloth too, so transferring is more work, but the planter is still effective. ... show more

I am using these to grow seeds up to plant in the yard. I love that I don't have to be continually checking to see if they need to be watered. They are working great for what I need and I can easily keep an eye on the water level with the little corner window and easy fill hole.

I purchased these planters for my indoor herb garden. The first three plants-basil and two types of mint were doing so well that I decided to buy another set a couple of weeks later for my rosemary, oregano and chamomile plants. They are doing well too. Took a star off because it is difficult to fill the reservoir through such a tiny opening. I just pour the water in slowly using a funnel or lift the planter from the reservoir until the window shows it's full. Looking to see if they have larger size for the future. ... show more

This was my hubbys moms rose bush at her funeral. It’s not doin so good but we replanted it in this and it’s more than perfect!! I love the fact it has a window to see how much water is in there. I recommend these 500%. It fits perfect in our window where he is adamant about having it there! Lol!

    • Great Idea — Effectiveness Depends on Location

3 stars of 5 — cannot recommend for self-watering The best thing about these is that they are a good size for 2-3 herbs and small enough that they can be moved easily and will fit just about any windowsill. Unfortunately the self-watering aspect depends too much on location. Depending on conditions (heat, humidity, sunlight, size of windows, and more)... the soil might dry too quickly for the wick to work, or never really dry at all. That leaves time for the reservoir to build up mold or start to smell. Instead, I've been using these for two purposes: (1) as holders for 2" pots, giving small plans/seedlings time to get acclimated, before putting them in a real pot. (2) as normal window-boxes, without making use of the self-watering, i.e. allowing the soil to dry and adding water as needed. I've lived in places where these containers probably would work, but they definitely don't here. ... show more
