First of all, it took me forever to find a blender with a glass jar, what’s up with all those plastic jars? Who in their right mind would think that a plastic jar would be perfectly suitable for blending hot liquids? Or maybe nobody cooks anymore and I’m the only one left on the planet who cooks her meals from scratch? And all they need the blender is for a random smoothie? Anyway, I LOVE this blender, I use it every single day and I love that I can unscrew the blades and clean them throughly. The power of the blender is fantastic and it has so many different speeds for all your blending needs. If I could give a 4.5, I might. The Oster Pto Blender 2-1 with Food Processor Attachment and XL Personal Cup is a work horse. You can make a single drink or a large batch of smoothies using the same container. It has a powerful 1200 watt motor which delivers. It has a 3.5" wide blade which does a more thorough job of blending the ingredients. It has 7-speed setting of which 3 are preset functions. Preset allows you to push a button and walk away for making: a. green/frozen smoothies b. food chop/salsa c. milk shakes Very efficient in chopping ice. It chops and or crushes nuts. I use nuts in most smoothies and shakes. I simply add to the other ingredients and touch the smoothie button. Does the trick. I do not make nut butter in it...use my food processor for this activity. It is dishwasher safe, even though I wash it by hand as soon as I use it. It doesn't take up a lot of space. I did have to learn to put the rubber washer on properly. it must be perfectly aligned.with notches in the black base. I also had to pay close attention to how I lined up the jar on the motor part of the blender. Cuts down on noise and certainly MESSES. It only takes one "big ole blue smoothie mess" for me and I quickly learned what I did wrong and makes me realize that I just thought I had it right the 1st attention. A couple of cons: a. Jar is a wee bit heavy. b. Oster does not state if Individual smoothie cup is BPA free. c. It is a bit noisy, but real noisy if not put together properly. I would say the pros out weigh the cons. It was a great price on Amazon. In fact, I would say a better price than other places I shopped. I replaced an old Oster, which was 40 yrs old and a workhorse. The reason for the need of replacement is that the collar on the base finally cracked and I could not find a replacement. Else wise, I would still be using the wonderful machine. I am quite sure that I will not get the same number of yrs from this machine but if I get 10, I guess that will be okay..Warranties no longer impress me but I guess it is a good advertising point to state that the warranties are better than others---I have found that getting companies to honor today's said warranties on foreign goods usually amount to a huge headache. My other Oster was manufactured in the USA and this Oster, as all things today,was made in China. ... show more

    • A love story...a girl and her blender
Style: Blender + Food Processor Brushed Nickel
I wanted to use this for a few months before reviewing, and after 3+ months I can honestly say this is a big asset in the kitchen, replacing a Ninja blender and a food processor. It doesn't really look like stainless steel, but it's not bad looking on the counter. I use the travel cup blender function 2-4 times a day for bullet coffee and smoothies. Yes, it is loud, especially when using the smoothie cycle (which is a few minutes long). Just when you think you'll lose your hearing, it's ready! I only exaggerate a little...it is loud. But it doesn't wake someone in another room. What you get, though, is AMAZING. Frothy coffee. Smooth, creamy smoothies; mine are milkshake consistency. Never a chunk of frozen fruit, spinach stem, or ice. Perfection every day. I had a Ninja for about seven years, and after it finally failed I realized I could get this gadget for the same price as Ninja parts with the bonus of upgrading my food processor! The food processor gets much less use, bit performs as expected. It shreds cheese and slices veggies easily. I recall some negative reviews about the blade assembly. It requires some care to disassemble, as the blades are sharp! If you carefully pry the seal up in one spot, it comes right apart. If you poke yourself a couple of times, try wearing dish gloves. I wash everything in the dishwasher a couple of times each week, but it is so easy to hand wash/rinse right after you use it, that I do that and let it air dry. If you don't rinse immediately, I can see how gunk would build up on the blade (and under)...so just rinse it right away and don't let it dry dirty. Easy peasy. A word on putting the blade assembly together...I seem to recall some issues with leaks. If the seal is seated all the way around inside the black base piece (that then drops into the moto), you won't have leaks. Same idea when you screw the base on either the travel cup or the pitcher...screw it tight enough that the clear tabs go just past the black tabs (as tight as you can go). [That makes sense if you look at the pieces, I promise!] If you don't do those 2 things, the second in particular, you will have a leak.
