Reclaim your lawn from fire ants with Ortho® Fire Ant Killer Mound Treatment1. This insect control product kills mounds in 15 minutes. In addition, it kills both the mound and the queen, and keeps new mounds from forming. Use this pest control product on residential lawns, ornamental plants and flower gardens. To treat mounds, apply 2/3 cup of product over each fire ant mound and the surrounding 3-foot diameter. After application, drench the mounds with 2 gallons of water. Do not water to the point of run-off, and do not make applications in the rain. For best results, apply in cool weather (65°F to 80°F) or in the morning or late evening hours when ants are most active. Do not apply this product to vegetables. Do not allow people and pets to re-enter treated area until granules have been watered in and area has dried. This stuff works incredibly well. Even less than the bottle says is needed, only a half tsp will wipe out a medium sized nest. The fire ants are terrifying here and I made the first significant strides in the battle against them when I used this stuff last year. Do NOT use this in your house. You should not be breathing it, and it smells terrible. Don’t use it in ditches or uphill from a waterway/pond unless there’s no rain forecasted for a while, and don’t use near a pond/river at all. It will kill important wildlife if you do. Per my research, a good several days to a week in the hot sun and soil will break it down and it will be okay, but fresh product getting into water will kill fish, toads, frogs, and maybe turtles. So please use responsibly based on how water flows near you and check the weather for rain before you use it. I treated dozens upon dozens of HUGE nests (like life-threatening to a toddler size nests) last summer with one bottle, so the bottle holds a lot of product. Does the job quickly and efficiently. We were skeptical especially with the price but it wiped out fire ants like nothing else we've found so far. Easy application, but you don't get a whole lot so being honest it's not exactly a value. Small amount kills mounds large and small and seems to kill those surrounding it that are connected as well. I recently purchased this fire ant killer, and I’m thoroughly impressed with its performance. After spotting a few mounds in my yard, I needed something powerful and easy to apply to get rid of these pesky invaders. This product did not disappoint. First off, the application was incredibly straightforward. The granules were easy to spread around the mounds, and the instructions were clear and simple. I saw a few reviews before I purchased this and wow!! I definitely agree with those of you who said this stinks. It smells like old cabbage and sulfur and the smell lingers for a few days. The bottle is huge, a little bit goes a long way. Used this in the kitchen under the fridge and outside along the back door and when I tell you it kills bugs so fast.... I mean it. I haven't seen a live bug inside since using this. It killed the ants and junebugs outside and the little black carpet beetles I had inside. The bottle is still full. I don't think I'll ever have to use it again but if I do, I have plenty. Definitely recommend. ... show more
