I was surprised how well the finger print biometrics work. It is easy to setup and accurate. It is surely made well enough to keep out an honest thief or child. If someone really wants in they will get in. Just like any budget safe in this price range. It is still good for safe weapon storage.

I will be comparing this too the Vaultek VT20 pistol safe as I now own both. I will start by saying the value of this safe is excellent. It appears well built and I could not find any visible flaws. It came very well packaged. The buttons are large and the biometric feature works very well. I was actually very surprised at how well the fingerprint reader worked to open the safe. I was also pleased it stores up to 20 different finger prints. The inside of the safe is spacious and it is lined with nice padded material. It locks securely and positively and it springs open very well. Let me get down to the comparison; The VT20 was almost exactly twice the cost of this safe. And if I had opted for the biometric version of the Vaultek, the Vaultek would be nearly three times the cost. I can confidently say the Vaultek is better in every way. The Vaultek is nearly twice as heavy, has double walled construction, has internal hinges, and two locks which appear twice as thick as this safe. The padding is thicker and better on the Vaultek, it has rechargeable batteries(this one uses 4 AA batteries which are not included), an internal light, lighted buttons, and an app which helps you change settings and reset the safe in case of tampering. With all of that being said, If you are looking to have a quick access safe which will keep a firearm safe from children at an inexpensive cost then this will do the trick. If you want more features and a more secure safe, AND are willing to spend 2 to 3 times as much, buy a Vaultek. ... show more

I received this fairly quickly. The steel seems a little thin, which corresponds to the light weight of the product. However, it is very rigid, the tolerances are very good on the door, and the hinges and the door fits tightly into the box. The instructions are surprisingly clear and this is very easy to set up a PIN and multiple fingerprints. Like all readers, it is a little sensitive to clean and the temperature of your finger when you engage the reader. Your finger needs to be clean and warm for it to work at its best. I found out by accident that you can apply the finger from the front or from the back which is handy if you’re reaching down into a drawer and it will work given the above limitations. Also the width of the product which corresponds to the height of the weapon when you place it in this container is not quite as wide as I would like. I put a CZ 10 F in it which has a slightly longer Magazine holding 21 rounds and it occupies the entire width of the box. The length of the box has extra room on either end of the weapon , it is fairly well padded and lined. Overall for the price and his other reviewers say the better than average working of the fingerprint reader, make this a pretty good value for the money and as above I think it’s functionality is also very good. I saw one Reeder say they found out by accident, but read the instructions. Well, you will come across the section it tells you how to disable the beeping sound when it opens upon a finger. Overall it’s very quiet in operation once you apply that setting. I recommend a purchase and it is held up with pretty consistent use for a couple of months now. ... show more

Programming codes and fingerprints is a breeze, the instructions are clear and straightforward with little to no room for error, the safe itself seems sturdy and durable with plenty of room to fit 3 mags (2 of which are extended) and a compact pistol with a bit of room to spare. The speed at which the safe pops open upon finger print is quick enough where I'm confident in an emergency situation I'll be able to access my firearm when needed with no hassle. The keypad input obviously takes longer but it still really responsive and the fact we can program multiple sets of prints and codes makes it easy to plan for emergencies. My only real issue is the fact the safe runs on 4 AA batteries (which I likely skipped over in product details as I don't recall seeing that listed), but I suppose that's more a personal gripe than anything as even without batteries powering the keypad/print scanner I still have the key which pops the safe really quick. I feel an improvement could be the addition of a solar strip/magnetic charging option to at least power the fingerprint scanner in the even you the batteries run out and you don't have access to the key.
