I owned the Samsung VR goggles, the top of the line Fatshark for my drones and viewed various VR headsets. I also looked into the "LUCI Immers" brand because they had better specs on paper, but they had so many disappointing reviews on their Indegogo campaign when they were finally received. I was in the market for a "VR type" headset just to watch movies on, and I was a little doubtful that I would find a headset with any great success with good picture quality, but the Goovis Young did the trick with excellent picture quality (I just wished they were as wide as the LUCI immers specs). The build quality and optics are top notch. No screen door effect like VR goggles. It has excellent picture quality, as clear or clearer than your phones screen. I chose this model because I don't need it for 3D or VR, it really primarily uses one cable to the device ( so no wire clutter like the other models), I like that it uses my phones battery for power, unlike my Fatshark that required and external battery. My model phones screen automatically dims down when it senses that you connected to another monitor, the headset monitors will turn off when it senses that your nose is not there (so if your missing your nose, this might not work out for you). No fogging even on my semi-flat asian face. The individual eye diopter adjustments are a HUGE plus if you have different perscription grades on your eyes. It really does feels like your in your own private movie theater. The size and weight are great, it doesn't feel like you have a shoebox on your face. I use this headset with an old Samsung S8 that is just dedicated for the Goovis Young, my DJI Mavic and thermal cameras. To use it with Samsung DEX, do a search for DEX on you phone, and enable it (choose DEX on TV or Monitor), this will allow you to view a desk top pc-like screen in your Goovis and use your phone as a touchpad (swipe down from the top of the compatible Samsung screen, and you'll see a notification "use phone as a touch pad for DEX", OR there will be a little square icon on the bottom left of your phone screen to enable touch pad (you will always have a tiny cursor arrow on screen, but you won't need to peek out of your headset to do things on screen). To turn off DEX, just go to settings and disable it, and the view on the screen will look like your phones screen. The only negatives I can find is : 1) to store them in its case you have to remove the strap or risk damaging or deforming the face foam. 2) For heafty price they should have at least included the "over the head" support strap and the two various accessory cables that they sell as extra for the Goovis Young. 3) even though it swings up out of the way, its still in the way. 4) It's wired (but I guess that keeps the weight down). 5) Too easy to move the width adjustments for your eyes when your handle them, I wish they were tighter/stiffer to move. 6) Power, It sucks the battery down on your device (I recommend buying the "USB C cables for Goovis Young" for extended viewing). 7) Price, I think if they dropped it down about 30 percent, or maybe added all the aforementioned accessories it would be a better seller. My conlusion is that this headset is keeper until technology improves to make it wireless without becoming too heavy. For now it's a solid 4.5 stars. ... show more

I bought this when i had samsung phone. I recently switched to an iphone and now i cant connect it. I googled and saw videos on youtube but they were idiotic and not very educational. They show bunch of connectors being put together. No one could tell me what i am suppose to buy to make it work! IF YOU HAVE AN IPHONE, DO NOT BUY THIS THING! ... show more

    • Better than I expected

I'm not certain I would recommend this to someone else for $600, but as a hobbyist I can definitely say I enjoy it. The only flaw (4 stars out of 5) is that the material around the eyes seems to have been very slightly torn or permanently deformed during shipment or packaging. It doesn't detract from the function of the headset, but for the premium price customers should expect the utmost quality control! Also having to order adapters separately for the primary use case seems a little silly. I would say those 2 factors subtract half a point each from my score. That said, I'm very happy with the practicality of this. My biggest concern was reviews stating the edges are blurry or out of focus, but this is very minimal and acceptable from what I see in the device. I am able to get my left eye (my good eye) to see the whole screen including the bottom right corner, so the edge concerns are a non issue for me. I also see I can contact goovis to get a special lens for my right eye since I have astigmatism, but for now that seems unnecessary. So, 5/5 practicality and form factor, but 4/5 for the minor quality control issue and not including the proprietary adapter in the box. BRIEF UPDATE: the foam seems to have recovered a little, so it was deformed and not ripped. That raises my review to 4.5/5. The volume controller that came with the unit reversed / flipped audio though (tested several headsets directly and tested volume cable on different devices), so score lowered back to 4/5, for a revised 4/5. ... show more

    • Quite a few improvements needed

Overall very easy to use and good quality picture. In particular good for new iPad users or android phones, but not iPhone which is using lightning connection. Downsides are quite a few and disappointing: 1. The package does not come with a converter for which you will need to purchase separately to connect non-USB type C connection like HDMI, and lightning connection needs another converter with this one! So you can forget about connecting it to iPhone. 2. Does not support Netflix. Even if you can connect it to iPad or android phones, you cannot enjoy it playing your favourite Netflix films or tv series. As I was told by Goovis, they don’t have licence from Netflix! Then get one I would say! 3. Maybe it is my face and eyes not being western enough, my eyes are too close to the viewing windows. Sometimes when I blink, the eyelids or eyelashes are brushing the viewing window glass. ... show more

Item was like what described by the seller. I had tried the product for 2 days for around 3 hours, the image quality was quite good. The weight of the product is quite light and it is comfortable to wear it while I am sitting on the sofa or lying on the bed. As my experience, it would be better to use it without moving around or rotate your head (not like playing VR headset), otherwise, it may cause a little dizzy and cannot focus on the screen. Whether it felt like watching movie with 800 inchs screen in cinema depend on personal perception or experience. I have tried VR headset of other brands before, GOOVIS's product has much better image quality than other VR headset. Though it is not as excellent as I expected, the quality is ok for me. If the price can be lower it would be a very good product. Also, it would be perfect if the next generation product can be wireless although I know that wireless device can hardly to be light weight due to the battery. ... show more
