Frequently asked questions

The Steam Deck is designed to run games from your Steam library. This includes a wide range of titles, from indie games to AAA releases. Its performance will vary based on the game's requirements, but the device is capable of running many current titles smoothly, especially with its 512GB SSD and 16GB RAM catering to storage and multitasking needs.

Yes, the Steam Deck runs on SteamOS 3.0, a Linux-based operating system, but it also allows users to install other OSes, including Windows. This flexibility lets you use the Steam Deck for activities beyond gaming, such as web browsing, productivity apps, and more, essentially functioning as a portable PC.

Battery life on the Steam Deck varies depending on usage. For less demanding games or tasks, it can last up to 7-8 hours. However, for intensive gaming, especially at higher settings and the 7.4-inch OLED screen's 90Hz refresh rate, expect 2-4 hours. Battery life will ultimately depend on the specific games you're playing and the settings you're using.

Yes, the Steam Deck supports external displays through its USB-C port, allowing connection to TVs, monitors, and even VR headsets. It also supports a wide range of USB-C hubs and docks for connecting peripherals like controllers, keyboards, and mice, making it versatile for both handheld and desktop-style gaming experiences.

  • Despite the pictures in the listing it is an OLED Steam Deck
Was a little worried at first because the pictures shown for the item are the LCD version but after sending a message to confirm and receiving the item I was able to see that it is in fact the OLED version with the original steam zipper lock tag. Everything functions as expected and was brand new as expected. Thank you! ... show more

  • I can take it to work and do anything I would do on my personal computer and play my Xbox X.
I can take it to work and do anything I would do on my personal computer and play my Xbox X. This has to be the best hand and first hand-held computer I have ever owned.

  • Fantastic option for a handheld PC
To be honest, I have owned the Legion Go and the Rog Ally, yet I prefer the Steam Deck even though its hardware is a previous generation from the other options. Why? -The form factor is the best out of the 3 in my opinion, it's just more comfortable to hold and doesn't bother my hands at all. Much better back button placement and the build quality feels just right, as does the weight of the device. -The OS is fantastic, but I can understand some people don't know Linux and might struggle if leaving the SteamOS for any reason. There is a ton of info on the internet, so make use of it and learn something new! -It's NOT Win11. MS has gone downhill with pretty much all of their software imo, so I'm very happy to move away from it. -Works with official and un-official accessories, not to mention there are a ton of options if you are feeling squirrely wanting to do upgrades / part swaps (please be careful and watch guides). -Oled screen, such a game changer, everything pops and looks amazing. The screens on the Legion Go and Rog Ally are solid as well imo, they look great, but the SD's Oled tops them both. Worth the money. All in all, an all-around fantastic device and I'm very happy with my purchase. I suggest the jsaux case if just in case, it's easy to use and cheap, but well made. I also suggest the right-angle USB-C adapter to help relieve stress on the USB-C port. ... show more

  • Great product, early package
This thing rocks. Seriously the coolest console on the market(and it’s not even a console but it is a console? So cool) no one seems to know about it though… It’s incredibly versatile and customizable. I’m just blown away. Can’t even get started on how many ways there are to use this thing. There are very few limitations, no proprietary BS, and tons of software and workarounds created by the community. So frikken cool package arrived several days early too, so that was a sweet surprise ... show more

  • Steam deck Oled
It works exactly how I wanted to and it came without issues. It also came like a whole week earlier than expected. Would recommend to anyone who can’t get the steam link to work.
