So I got the grill set up and followed the seasoning instructions. First gilling was some burgers and sausages. on the Medium setting, it grilled as fast as gas, but without my having to burn my hands to flip, turn and baste. The food was not all dried out, and tasted great. You could taste the smoke in the food. The next day - I slow smoked 3 racks of ribs and 4 baked potatoes, with the upper grill removed, and had room for one or two more racks. After 5 hours of smoking, it used 2/3 of a bag of pellets at a setting of 275, cranked to Medium (around 400) to crisp the potato skins at the end. I can say this is definitely the way to go if you like smoked BBQ - the flavors amazing and meat as tender as I have ever gotten it. I highly recommend the grill. I’m an avid rec tec grill user. This grill has exceeded my expectations of a pellet grill and a rec tec grill. There is nothing negative I can comment on about it. I will still keep my rec tec as a backup. But this thang cooks better. It’s a little different to operate and I was skeptical about using it. But it has been amazing. I’m actually blow away on how it cooks for this country boy. It’s easy to use and put together. Best grill by far that I have used. It’s heavy and made of cast iron. Took me and my 8 year old about 45 mins to put together. Worked perfect. Pellet consumption is less than I presumed. Very impressive!!!! For the negative reviews I don’t know what to say. Update: Apparently looks are deceiving. After 16 months of perfect operation, the auger motor quit working. The power button stopped working and it has to be pressed many before it will stay engaged. If you want to spend a ton of money on a grill then throw it away a year later this is the grill for you. Bottom line: metal work is excellent, the electronics are garbage. I reached support via chat Sunday 9/11/22. Said they would help me get it fixed. Not heard back from them yet. Then I tried sending an email asking for replacement parts to fix auger on Monday 9/17/22. Got a robo reply from "Char Broil". But no human has contacted me. If you want a grill that works a bout a year for $1000, then no support of any kind then buy this one. No such thing as accountability in this country any more. Update, 10/7/22: No missed calls or voicemail from Char Broil, after a chat session where I was assured they would contact me with help get it fixed. OR, from an email sent to them a week after the chat session. This country is nothing like the one I knew and grew up in 50 yrs ago. ... show more

OK so this was a surprise birthday present for my hubby. He has been wanting a really good smoker for years and did his research. Not only was delivery completely accurate and the delivery service called me 20 minutes out, but the gentlemen were kind and courteous. In addition, my husband was so excited we assembled it right away in an hour and immediately made plans for dinner. The result, easy to assemble, easy to use and temperature control is awesome! I like this grill a lot. If I had to do it over, though, I would have spent the extra for the DLX. The cooking drum is a fine size if you take the rack out. It is about the same size as other pellet grills in that respect...but seeing a DLX in person I should have paid for the extra space. Pros: * It does a great job of smoking and cooking low and slow. * It produces a ton of smoke when smoking * The extra exterior racks are nice. * It is SOLID. * The pellet swap out system and bucket are the best I've seen. * The Ash cup is a great design and feature that others lack * It comes with one meat probe, but can use 2 at once Cons: * The temp controller only goes to 300, then it is Low, Medium, and High, which provide temp ranges above 300 degrees. It would be way better with a dial that just kept going up incrementally. * There is no handle to use to roll it, so you have to use the shelf. This is not a big deal, as who moves their grill very much? but still... * There is a hot spot above the sliding heat diffuser. The flames come out the side there, but unless you are filling the grill full, you can work around it. It is not bad below 300, but at 300 and above the center is hotter. One final note: Assembly was pretty easy, buy it preassembled if possible. The smokestacks on mine did not fit and I had to wait for new ones to be sent out (Customer service was great!) Apparently small fit issues are not uncommon. In the end, I would buy this again, but I'd spend the $100 to upgrade to the DLX. ... show more

I bought this to get searing heat to cool steaks, finish chicken, etc. it’s great for that. It has good base grilling surface area for bigger venues or slabs I keep it by the lil Tex traeger and use the one that suits the need better on any given cook. Having to empty the pellets to start the cool down seemed like a haste on this grill, but it’s really not bad at all I don’t know all the grills, but this is the best bang for the buck from what I have seen ... show more

I’ve always had barrel smokers and loved them. I got a traegar and what I never liked about the Traegar Grill is how flimsy it felt. The metal was really thin and I thought I’d have to buy another on in no time. And when OKLAHOMA JOE put out this pellet smoker I was in, and I’m glad I did it. Perfect smoke every time and like my barrel smokers in the past, thick metal that won’t bend. A quality build and we’ll be smoking and grilling for a long time to come! ... show more
