  • Simple, effective, worthwhile dual-monitor device keeps tabs on temps of your fridge/freezer(s).
Color: White
BOTTOM LINE: Affordable, simple way to monitor the temps in your refrigerator and/or freezers to insure that your food stays at the temps it should. Pop in batteries, set upper & lower limits and forget it. About as simple as it gets. Very happy. Well worth it for the peace of mind. 5 STARS THOUGHTS: Having just filled our large chest freezer in the basement with a half Angus beef, I thought it might be a good idea to make sure things are staying at the proper frosty temps. Our freezer is decades old while it's always just chugged along without complaint, you just never know when it might give up the ghost. That'd be a helluva lot of perfectly good food (and money) gone to waste if it ever did. We don't go down there to pull food out or check on a daily basis so, after some internet researching, this inexpensive little remote thermometer seemed like a good way to keep tabs on things. As a bonus, this unit is set up for two individual sensors/monitored readings, so I placed the other sensor in the bottom drawer freezer in our fridge in the kitchen. Now they're both being closely monitored, so hopefully we'll never have any ugly surprises! Instruction booklet was helpful, but setting was an intuitive deal. Set upper & lower limits, decide whether you want an audible alarm for each sensor (about as loud as most cooking timer alarms) and place it where it's most convenient for you. (Receiver unit has a hole to allow for mounting on a nail or screw, a pop-out foot to allow you to set it upright on a counter or widow ledge, and 4 strong magnets so you can attach it to your stove or fridge. Main receiver unit takes 2 "AAA" batteries, remote sensors take 2 "AA" each. The manufacturer recommends using lithium batteries, for longer life. I'm not sure if regular batteries would last very long sitting in the single digit temps of the freezers, so I sprang for a set of Energizer Lithium batteries - just to be on the safe side. *** I also wanted to mention that when I got mine, I couldn't get a reading from Sensor #1. I tried different batteries and whatnot, but to no avail. I contacted the vendor (AMIR) and they quickly & politely responded with several suggestions, which I tried... but still no soap. I emailed them again and they offered me a complete refund and asked if I'd be willing to take a chance and re-order. I did, and within a couple of days the replacement arrived. When I put the batteries in, I quickly discovered that the fault with that first, original unit wasn't with the remote sensor but rather the main receiver/display monitor; the readout for sensor #1 was dead. Oddly, they said I didn't have to bother returning the defective original. So now I have a second one which only displays one reading, but rather than throw it away or let it sit in a drawer I simply used the fully functional replacement unit to monitor our freezer AND fridge upstairs, and now that original unit with only one working temp is dedicated to the big downstairs freezer. Now I can keep tabs on EVERYTHING being kept chilled or frozen. Win-Win! THAT is what I call outstanding customer service! ... show more

  • Works just like it's supposed to!
Color: White
I got this for my deep freezer when I was expressing milk for my baby and heard horror stories about moms losing their freezer milk bevause the freezer went or was left open. It's been 2 years and I stopped expressing 1.5 years ago but keep the sensor in there. The batteries have lasted this long and I've recently gotten two kittens that like to play by the surge protector. They have, on numerous occasions, ran over the switch and turned off my deep freezer. This alarm has saved my bulk groceries for my family! Hundreds of dollars of groceries saved! I also have one unit in my children's bedroom to make sure it doesn't get too hot or cold in the winter and summer as the heat rises and when the ac is on, it can get too cold and I don't have central air. The alarms go off reliably and have helped me keep my kids comfortable! Highly recommend if you're needing a digital temp alarm! ... show more

  • Useful, but less so if you need more than two sensors in the house
Color: Black
A friend's freezer went out and lost a lot of food. They purchased one of these and recommended it to us as well. This has already saved use at least two or three times when the door is left ajar or when our freezer fan went out. Pros: Easy to place, non-descript, easy to read display. Cons: You can only really have one of these units in your house at a time. We have our primary fridge upstairs and a chest freezer downstairs. I purchased a second unit so I could monitor the upstairs fridge and freezer and the chest freezer downstairs. It took a lot of work to get the units to not pick each other up and read the wrong sensor. I found the best way to fix this is to have the primary unit in the kitchen and the deep freeze in the basement below the bedroom. We can still hear the alarm if it goes off (mostly) but it won't pick up the other unit's sensors since they're so far apart. The manufacturer has indicated that you can change the pairing to prevent this but I was never able to get it to stay separate reliably over time. The base unit also chews through batteries relatively quickly. No big deal, I just keep rechargables around and swap them in when it starts to dim. Surprisingly, the sensor batteries have been going strong since we bought the first unit. Significantly longer than most reviews led me to believe. Update 1-24-2023: Ok, I'm updating my original review. This is still a solid 4-star product. I will re-emphasize that having two of these (so, four sensors and two base units) is a pain to keep synced properly. If you lose battery on any of the sensors or base stations, you have to basically keep resetting it with a two-button press and wait until it grabs the correct two sensors. Now, here's the interesting thing and the real reason I wanted to update. This sensor broadcasts on 433 MHz. This is neat because you can pick that signal up with an SDR. I have successfully imported these into Home Assistant and now I monitor and track these sensors. Very nice because I have now turned them into automatic alarms that send me an email if the temperature deviates above a certain threshold. You'll need to reconfigure them in HA every time you replace a battery, but it's not so bad. So, I'll subtract half a star for the frustrating sync issues, however, I'll add that half star back because of the open signal that I can track. Update 2: Well, since I have two of these base units and periodically they lose signal or change channels, they will just pick up whichever sensor unit they find first. Which is probably as bad as having none. A false signal is not great because you think the freezer is humming along but it picked up the other freezer's sensor making you think it's fine. So this negative only impacts people who have two or more of these units. I would HIGHLY recommend not purchasing more than one unit. There's no way to keep them straight. ... show more

  • Nice external temp monitor
Color: Grey
Works very well for monitoring refrigerator/freezer temps. Accurate to within 1 degree vs old globe thermometer. Alarm is loud enough to hear a room or 2 away. Batteries (2 AAs) last 6+ months.
