  • Well made but, 400lbs.? I dunno; 300 maybe?
The casters and mounting hardware are actually much better than I expected for the cost. The steel is heavy enough but, I question the 400lb rating because the welds don't look that great (not bad but, not great) and, as pointed out by others, there are only about 3 full threads in the caster plates for the bolts that attach them to thread into. My load is less than 200 lbs. so I'm not concerned. Since the hardware is, rather nicely, painted there is quite a bit of paint in the threads. Before attempting assembly I used one of the extra supplied bolts and ran it through the threads with a little drop of oil to clean out the paint. You'll want to work it in and out a little at a time so as not to bind the bolt up in the threads. This worked well but, I still came back with another unused bolt and ran it through all the holes again to be sure. Other than my doubts about the weight this is a very well made product. ... show more

  • Appearances are not what they appear
It appears to be well made and heavy duty. However, under close examination, there is a very poor design, and quality issue. The bolts supplied are supposed to screw into the lower caster brackets. At best, there are maybe 3 threads Bec cause of the thin steel used. NONE of the bolts would thread into the holes. I had to start each bolt and fight it to clean the pain off the plate to try to thread the bolts. Even at that, when trying to install the brackets, it was a struggle to tighten the bolts. It was very difficult to tighten the bolts. I ended up rounding over the hex wrench opening in the bolt because it was so tight. I gave up on bolt #5 and returned it to Amazon. There was no paperwork in the box for directions, and not even an Allen wrench for the bolts. Lucky for me I have both Metric and Standard. While it is pretty obvious how to put it together, it would have been nice to know what size to drill the holes in the plywood. I rarely write negative reviews, but this is a piece of junk. That said, I may have gotten the one crappy one that got thru quality control, but Im guessing I'm not. Proceed at your own risk, and/or frustration level. ... show more

  • Great concept, works well... but...
This is a great concept and once together, works fine. But be prepared to “work” the threads used to secure the two halves together of each wheel set together. No instructions are included but it is pretty self explanatory to put this together, and for the price it works great. There are instructions posted in the listing, but don’t use the 1/2 inch bit as shown, it’s too large. What is annoying is that when the parts were stamped and machined, the tolerances are sloppy on all of the threaded assemblies and you need to use the set of screws you won’t be using in the build this thing to clear the threads of paint and metal shavings so you can assemble this platform. For what it is and the price, you won’t go wrong, but it would be a vast improvement if there was ANY quality control during manufacturing so you don’t need to engineer it further once you receive and assemble it. ... show more

  • Good product, bad threads
This should have been a 10 minute build, but took over an hour. Every bolt had to be forced. After the first one, I ran an extra bolt through all of the holes. It was still difficult to assemble. Save yourself some grief and buy a M8 tap to chase the threads. Also, a kit of this type should include an allen wrench, which is usually standard. I drilled 11/32" through holes in the plywood, which were sufficient for clearance. Once assembled & tool loaded (250 lb. drill press, 19"x31" footprint) the base rolls smoothly. Locking levers work well. In the down position tool is stable. Edit: I just purchased a second mobile base kit. I am very satisfied with the product. This time I purchased a M8 tap and assembly went smoothly. ... show more

  • Made a heavy 20" drill press mobile.
I bought this from Amazon after getting an email from another company offering this item with a different brand name for the same price but they wanted $15 for shipping. Like others have said the threaded holes are rough and getting the screws thru requires a ratchet for leverage. Also the straight wheels have a lot of play. I added a washer to one side and tightened up the mounting screws to minimize play while still allowing easy tuning of the wheels. After using a scrap piece of CDX I found it flexed too much so I added some stiffeners that fit in the drill press base hollow area. The lift pedals are in the back where they about equal the motor overhang and you won't run into them with your feet. ... show more

  • Good quality, same as overpriced brand
These are great and easy to use. Im using them for my heavy bandsaw, so I can move it when not in use. Very sturdy when rolling or with wheels up. These are the exact same as the higher priced name brand caster kit.

  • Works well after a couple of modifications
Read the other reviews before purchasing so went ahead and got an M8-1.25 tap as well. Am glad I did as I did end up having to use it to chase the threads. Assembly was easy afterwards. I had to back out the two black support legs as far as possible in order to come close to level on the base when the two casters are disengaged. The problem with that is when the casters are engaged, there is very little clearance between the support legs and the ground. I bought the self stick Magic Sliders 4124 4-Pack and cut one of the rectangular pieces in 1/2 and placed each 1/2 under the orange lever to create greater clearance when engaged. Works great because the sliders also makes the engage/disengage action much smoother. All in all, I would buy it again as it is a cheaper option than the other brands of mobile bases. ... show more

  • Poor fit of bolts
Bolts did not thread into the base. Bolts are 8mm drill and tap holes are about 7mm, bolts would not fit. had to drill out and go to the hardware store and get 8mm nuts. All worked out OK but was a pain..
