🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The product reviews highlight the metal detector's effectiveness in finding various items, notably coins and jewelry, even in challenging conditions. It's praised for being lightweight and easy to use, demonstrating a strong performance across different terrains and conditions. However, a significant drawback noted by users is the issue with the durability of the coil wire sheathing, which seems to dry rot, leading to costly repairs. Despite its high efficiency in detecting metals, the concern over its material quality and the consequent maintenance expenses are points of consideration for potential buyers.

Pros

  • 🔍 Excellent at finding coins and silver chains
  • 👌 Lightweight and user-friendly design
  • 🌊 Performs well in various conditions, including under the sea
  • 💼 Comes with images indicating good product condition upon delivery
  • ✨ Found numerous rings and jewelry, proving to be a powerful detector in water

Cons

  • ❌ Durability issues with the coil wire sheathing, leading to expensive repairs
  • ⏳ Potential long waits for repair, with experiences of unreliable service once out of warranty
  • 💵 High maintenance costs for a premium-priced product

Should I Buy It?

If your primary focus is on the detector's ability to find metals efficiently and you’re willing to manage potentially high maintenance costs, then yes. However, if you are concerned about longevity and additional expenses for repairs, you might want to consider other brands or models that have addressed similar durability issues more effectively.

  • Great coin finder
Hits hard on quarters. Even four a couple of silver chains, which are difficult for any detector to pick up. Great machine. Wish I bought one years ago.

  • Sheathing dry rots and falls apart
Overall I like the detector for being lightweight, the ease of using and I’ve had good luck finding items with it. I’ve owned two over the past 10 years but the main problem I have had was that both had dry rot issues where the electrical sheathing going to the detector coil that totally crumbled away. All other wiring sheathing to the battery or headphone set were always good with no issues but the coil wire covering totally crumbles apart after a few years. It just cost me $375 to get it repaired this year which includes a required coil replacement at the USA MineLab authorized repair shop. Good service there but the detector should never of had this type of issue. I only use the detector on vacation during the winter months while in the Caribbean. I never used these in the seawater, only on the dry beach sandy areas and mostly in the bushes. I cleaned both off with freshwater after each trip out and dry it off. I don’t know if it’s the humidity combined with the heat and salt air but whatever it is the detector wiring sheathing has issues, the rubber covering can’t take the environment long term. This problem has been noted for years by owners and Minelab has not address the issue. I have had the same JW Fishers Pulse X8 detector now for 30 years, used all the time doing the same thing as the Minelab detector and the wire sheathing is nearly as good as when I bought it. I would recommend another brand as Minelab in my opinion does not stand behind their product when defective. The first time the issue came up I was told by a company representative that it may have been a bad batch of rubber, and being out of warranty, I had to pay that time to repair it as well. For a $1,500 detector which has gone up in price significantly over that past years, I would expect more from the company. There are many other good quality performing detector options on the market these days with similar capabilities. Until the issue is addressed and corrected, I would consider passing for now. ... show more

  • Repairs are a nightmare. and Minelab doesn't seem to care
I've decided to write a review on this detector after experiencing numerous equipment failures. Please don't get me wrong, this is my go to detector when it in service and that is the problem, when it is in service. I would give it 5 stars if it were not for the service and support aspect. I own two of these machines and one or both of them fails every year. That raises the question of durability. Other users in my area are having similar experiences. When you do need to send your machine in for repair you are okay if it is still under warranty. The repair facility will move your machine to the head of the line. HOWEVER, if your machine it out of warranty you can expect an excessive delay, in my most recent case, 2 months and 20 days and still counting. That is unacceptable by any standards you might care to apply. So anyone contemplating buying one of these machines, please be aware of this very big pitfall. Or you can buy two of them so you have a backup. As a little background, Minelab has closed their own repair operation and has contracted out repair services. You still arrange your repair through Minelab but you pay the repair facility and they do the actual scheduling. Minelab told me to expect 4-5 weeks, the repair facility told me at the outset that 7 weeks is more realistic. You can deduce that we are now at 11 weeks and still no estimated repair date. Minelab tries to distance themselves from the problem. Update: 11 Jan 2017. My machine is on the way back after being stuck in the repair facility for 3 months and 9 days. Unsatisfactory. And now to make matters worse, my second machine has failed. I'm not sure I'm going to bother getting it fixed. Maybe I'll just cut my losses and look at another brand. ... show more
