  • The most extravagant tool purchase I've ever made. BUT WORTH IT!
I don't do copper plumbing that often. Matter of fact probably less than once a year. However I know enough that I can't see paying a plumber to do what I can do. However, copper soldering/sweating has always been a bit of a trial for me. I love how a nice heat system looks when it's all plumbed and polished but I've never yet done a complete system with no leaks. And leaks in copper, once filled with water, SUCK! Yeah yeah I know I'm supposed to air it up first.... Regardless when I saw this tool and watched a couple videos, I knew I had to have it. So I winced, grunted, squinted at the bank statement, justified it to myself a hundred ways, and bought it. The CC statement hasn't hit the desk yet so how I'll explain to the wife that I spent $4,000 on a tool I'll use once a year is still a rough draft in my head. HOWEVER! Today I used it for the first time. I'm in love. I want to tear out my heat system in my house and redo it just to use this marvelous piece of equipment. Completely blown away. No pipes to cool down, No dripping flux to stain the concrete. I'm about to sell my nifty little torch set I have. However I know better so I'll keep it for now. On the practical side, It's bigger and heavier than I envisioned, but not over the top. I guess I was imagining something more along the lines of a power pex crimper. It's easily light enough to use one handed, but it's heavier than a 1/2" cordless hammer drill. I got into a few tight spots but it definitely will not fit in like a torch and solder spool. I quickly took note that planning the order of fittings is fairly important. Kind of like pipe threading. I'm sure when I do a complete system again rather than the repair and addition I did today, I'll make use of unions more then I typically do. Changing heads is effortless. No bolts or nuts to loosen. Just pull the pin out as far as it goes and swap the head. Pin is held in place via detent so it can't get lost. Case is nice although slightly off balance end to end while carrying if the charger is not in the case. Now I just gotta make sure none of my neighbors or relatives find out I have one. I don't want them knowing how much I spent on it and I certainly don't want them borrowing it. However, I might just volunteer to go do the job for them so I get to use it..... lol ... show more
