  • Awesome Product!!!
I love this. It’s great to be able to split wood with just the swing of a 3lb sledge hammer.

  • Works well
Purchased to split medium logs for camp fires. Works well when mounted to a base. Took a little to get the hang of setting on the splitter to allow full swings of a hand sledge to split, but once that was learned it split all the logs fast and easy.

  • Works nicely as a kindling splitter!
You'll need to mount this onto something else to make it useable. I used 4 x 4 scraps and fabricated a base for it. As other reviews mention, yes, it's a bit tricky to get to the screw holes, but if you use a longer driver attachment, it will work. It arrives quite sharp. I've probably made 1/4 of a face cord of kindling with it so far, and it's held up fairly well. There are a few chips in the blade at this point, but that's to be expected with oak and maple. I think I can just give it a quick filing or sharpening with a rotary tool at some point. You'll need some sort of hammer with this. I just got a cheapy one pound hammer at Harbor Freight, and I should have gotten something just a bit heftier. Something like a blacksmith 2lb hammer would probably be ideal. Watch your shins using this, though! Sometimes the kindling pieces will go flying, so at least wear long pants if not some additional shin/foot protection. ... show more

  • Simple, sturdy, works grear
The media could not be loaded. I went with this because it didn’t have a ring that limits the size of wood that can be split. It is great for kindling and the next size up of logs. I have split rather large pieces of wood with it. Very sturdy. The only issues I have had is if the logs are longer than 16 inches they can get stuck on my base log if the wood didn’t already fully split (rare). The fix would be if the wedge was taller or the flare was wider but overall I really like it and it makes quick work of kindling. I use traditional axe for kindling too but this is safer for the kids to use. ... show more

  • Simple effective and built well
Very useful tool. You can split logs with it but it will be work, this is best for turning firewood that has already been split into kindling. Take it camping and you’ll be glad you did, the only tricky part is finding a log to screw it to. You want a log that is wide enough and has a flat bottom so it won’t fall over. Be careful screwing it in place because you’ll be working towards a very sharp edge, pre drill the holes and use a ratchet with a screw driver bit so you’ll be off to the side of the edge. It’ll take a little longer but it’s easier than a screw driver and you won’t have to worry about cutting yourself. ... show more

  • Works extremely well and easy to sharpen.
Makes quick work of medium large firewood and makes splitting kindling a breeze. Because it's iron it does dull or chip but a few minutes work with a file puts it back into working order. I wanted mine portable so I made a little rig out of scrap 2x4's I had and works great.

  • Poor quality and won't last a season
I thought this would speed up the process of making kindling from 3yr old split logs but the quality isn't there and this won't last a season. After two hours of slow to moderate use, the blade is chipped and dull. See photos. Concept is good but the steel used for the blade is junk. I've used the same axe for years and this product won't last a few hours. ... show more
