  • One of those rare gadgets that works BETTER than expected!
Style: Cooker
Reasons the Fasta Pasta is great: 1) Tastes better. Who knew so much flavor was lost in the pot of water??!! Not gummy or stuck-together. 2) Faster. Done in the time it takes water to boil. 3) Safer. No heavy pot of boiling water wrestle. 4) Easier. Top rack dishwasher safe. No pots or colander to wash. 5) Saves space. 6) Relatively inexpensive. What's not great: 1). Only cooks small batches at a time. 2) Very little pasta water, if you use that to adjust other things. 3) A little short. I had to break spaghetti in half to fit, but I do that anyway, so YMMV. This is one of those rare products that is even better than expected. ... show more

  • (UPDATED 16 Aug, 2017) Great Microwave Pasta For 1 Or 2, Quick & Easy Cleanup, Good Instructions, Uses Less Water
Style: Cooker
I live alone and find I use the microwave for a lot of my cooking. I use the microwave for steaming veggies, rice, and now with this simple tool pasta! The Fasta Pasta makes microwave cooking pasta for one much easier. When I want pasta it's quick and easy and the draining lid means a little less cleanup. It is just the right length for grocery store spaghetti/linguini. There are holes in the top for measuring one or two portions (it will cook up to 4). There are lines on the side help get just the right amount of water for 1 to 4 portions. All well thought out for the microwave cook. The 1 page brochure includes example cooking times for different types and portions of pasta and also warns that you will likely need to make adjustments for your own microwave. In my case I cook gluten-free pasta. There are lots of brands and tastes differ so another may be your first choice. I cooked a mainly rice GF fettuccine and using the guidelines in the brochure it came out great. The lid is used to measure portions and as a sieve to drain the cooked pasta. It is NOT used during cooking! This was not obvious to me before reading the instructions which are short, sweet and worth reading. Measure pasta (place in bottom), add water to the line for your number of portions, pop it into the microwave for the appropriate time, put on the lid, drain and serve. Easy Peasy! Cleanup was very easy and I recommend that if you don't wash it right away, fill it with water and a couple drops of dish detergent. When I do this cleanup after eating is quick and easy. I use my hands, not a dishwasher, though it is top-shelf safe. In conclusion, I didn't expect too much from the Fasta Pasta and my expectations were thoroughly exceeded. It is clear they designed in with clear thought about how it would be used. From the water lines, pasta portion holes, strainer or simple directions it's designed with the microwave cook in mind. Most of all, my results have been excellent and very tasty. That a 5 star performance in my cook-for-1 kitchen. UPDATE 16 Aug, 2017: I used my Fasta Pasta last night for GF angel hair pasta and then mixed in some pesto after it was done. Usually I'm cooking for just myself and I have been loving this easy to use and clean pasta cooker more and more. Before Fasta Pasta I only made pasta rarely and now I enjoy it several times a week. The Fasta Pasta is quick, precise (one or two serving size measuring holes in the top) and easy: just how I like things. Since I've adjusted timings for my microwave my results are consistently excellent and that's the bottom line for me. Fasta Pasta is still is exceeding my expectations! One thing I found out with the Fasta Pasta is there is very little water to pour off when done compared to using a pot on the stove. The water measurements are pretty precise and when done there is very little extra water used. Another plus for me. A TIP: I found helps save time is as you've dumped the pasta from the Fasta Pasta rinse and quickly wash the lid and the bottom. When I let it sit till after dinner the pasta residue has started to stick to the plastic much more. This turned out to make cleaning the Fasta Pasta even easier. ... show more

  • It won't get you your own cooking show on the Food Network, but...
Style: Cooker
...it will make you feel like a super star when you have more time to work on that amazing home-made sauce recipe you have. :) Really, all you do is... - Measure the amount of pasta (macaroni, shells, lasagna noodles, angel hair, etc. - you name it!) - Add the water to the pre-determined and pre-marked fill line - Add a little olive oil and salt to taste (if desired) - Get that microwave buzzing. It really is that easy to use the Fasta Pasta and it makes great-tasting, perfectly al dente cooked pasta. The container is well-made of a thick plastic, but small enough to fit in almost any cabinet space you might have available. Now, I know what you're thinking, why pay for a plastic tub that you have at home that can do the same thing? I would urge you to check the materials it's made of. The Fasta Fasta is made with a plastic that is certified by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) to be safe for microwave cooking. Is yours? I must admit, when I first set out to buy something similar to this item; I was determined to get the actual "As Seen on TV" competitor...why not? - It has a steaming rack for baked potatoes and vegetables - Measuring & stay cool handles - A mini recipe book So, the skeptic in me set off on the Internet research and I started asking some of your basic questions: Won't plastic melt in the microwave or give off that weird odor? Where's it made? Who actually makes it? Am I really going to use the recipe book and steaming rack? Here's where I landed... The Plastic - Not made with an FDA approved plastic material. (Source: No mention of this anywhere on the product website) Where's it made/Who actually makes it - The product is heavily backed/promoted by a large company that's also the creator of the "As Seen on TV" logo and promoter of a large assortment of other 'infamous' products. However, they also sell direct to wholesalers and resellers who may independently market these items as well. Most, if not all products made by this group, are more than likely outsourced to vendors overseas. (Source: no mention anywhere on the product website or it's promoter, indicates otherwise) What about a Steaming Rack for Veggies? - If you've taken a trip to your local grocery story (regional chain or large one with the smiley face) you've probably seen the already packaged "steam in the bag" for frozen vegetables. Why not? The cost is slightly more than your larger "cook it yourself" bag, but it's extremely convenient (for me, anyway). What about potatoes? - Make some holes using a fork or knive and microwave it on a papertowel or paper plate. How about the recipe book? - Considering I'm really only going to use this as an aid in recipies I'm already familiar with, why do I need a special book? Suggestions for Improvement: If they could laminate the cooking instructions card so it could be more durable, and use an alternative method to mark the pre-fill lines so they're easier to see -- that would be my only suggestions. Otherwise, it's a solid product and well worth the investment. In Summary - I really like the story of the product, the way everything is sourced and made in the USA, and the performance of the actual product itself. It really does work like it says it will. Most amazingly, you can get it for about half the price of the competitor (even if you factor in the Buy One Get One Free offer, not to mention the expensive shipping!). Tell me, what did you think? Please comment! ... show more
