This is a good metal detector to get anyone with a serious interest in metal detecting started in this hobby. It isn’t high-end or professional level, but it hits lots of marks really well and it is easy to use. If you are just getting started and you want to give metal detecting a serious start, this is a good way to go. The investment is not as high as an extreme hobbyist model, but it has the features you need, and even a few more, at a reasonable cost. Putting it together is fast and easy. You are ready to go quickly out of the box. It is built well and it feels solid. They have included a folding shovel, a headset, and a backpack to store everything and make it easy to transport on a hike. The headset is pretty lightweight, so I will keep my fingers-crossed that it holds-up. This is an important accessory for me because I don’t like attracting too much attention when I am searching. This metal detector has a nice big display that is easy to read in the sunlight. The waterproof detector head is a nice addition. It has good power too. The description lists that it can go down up to 10 inches to find metals. The battery life is really good. It definitely lasts all day on a single recharge. This is super helpful, because when I in the field, I don’t want to have to stop because of a low battery. Plus, electrical outlets aren’t always available. Disclaimer first -- I am not a metal detectorist, even though I used a couple of detectors in the past. This product surprised me. It is mostly plastic, but very sturdy, professional-looking, and well-made. It is also very light. It comes with a variety of detecting modes, of which I very much liked the pinpoint mode where continuous tone changes as you get closer to the metal object. It makes locating items very easy. I tried locating a penny in a grass, and the detector found it right away. Additional positives: - Display is standard black&white LCD, which offers great visibility in the sun. comparing to blinking LEDs or color screens. - It has a speaker, too, so you can use it without headphones - Included headphones are of good quality - You also get a very nice metal compact shovel/digger and a belt belt pouch to carry it. - The product comes with a small backpack to carry it. - Product structure is well thought through -- it disassembles info 2 parts easily and the parts fit together for compact storage. Downsides: - The coil is rectangular and not particularly large -- approximately 10x7" - Coil casing is also plastic, which might be a problem if you subject it to mechanical stress ... show more

    • Fantastic value, great entry level adult detector.
I have a Garret Ace 400 that me and my son went out with along with this unit. I would say that I was impressed with this unit, and especially considering the price, comparing to my Ace 400 that is a few hundred dollars. Is this equal to an Ace 400, no. But is it shockingly close, yes. The hardware and software interface on this is something that you have to play with and get used to, the Ace 400 is more natural to learn. But one you learn this one, you can do most of the functions that you can on the more costly detector. The sensitivity from the coil is actually similar, and the ability to discern material types is similar. The pinpoint mode on the coil works as expected, but not as tight as the Ace. The display is large and easy to read in direct sunlight. The USB charge port is really cool stuff, no more swapping AA batteries! The way you can fold this up and drop it into the included bag is nice. Being super compact when packed away makes it easy to toss in your car and have it on the go for when you find that perfect place to explore. The included shovel is very entry level, it will bend easy if you get rough.But it will get you started. One thing you do not get that you need is a hand held pinpoint pencil style detector for doing your digging. Overall, at this entry level price, you are getting a very useful detector that can very much get you started into this hobby. ... show more

    • A lot of fun to use
I found this metal detector to be a lot of fun to use once I got the hang of it. I have found a lot of metal scraps and bits around my farm including wires and old iron from some kind of plow or something. I first used it to find an electric wire going to an out building and then to find a socket I dropped in the tall grass. So far it works pretty well. You do have to practice some to get the hang of it but it doesn't take too much time. The height and angle adjustment are nice options to find a comfortable fit. ... show more

While I haven't found anything cool with it yet, it has pretty much everything you need to get started. It looks and feels nice, and the LCD display looks nice. Overall it seems pretty good for the price, but I have no experience with other detectors. Battery life seems massive, you could probably take this on a weekend trip and not need to charge it once. ... show more

I like how easy it was to learn to navigate the instructions and put them to use. Pinpoint detection is an excellent feature to get to where you need to be quicker and makes different sounds for different metals or type of items. Overall, this is a perfect working machine with great lithium-ion batteries that can last 20 hours. I don't see a child using this in a comfortable and proper way as the distance between the handle and arm brace is more suitable for an adult sized person, but it is a good high-tech metal detector with an excellent degree of accuracy. I've always wanted a metal detector as a child. I like that I was able to purchase with a great price.
