  • Came out of the box 3 degrees out of pitch!!!
Style: C12FDHB
Probably one of the cheapest and least we’ll made saws I have ever owned or used. Handle broke right out of the box. I am a finish carpenter and of course my cuts have to be perfect. So when I’m 3 hours into a little project trying to figure out what was going wrong. Come to find out that while my saw was at 45 degrees, it was really cutting at 42. I was shocked when I finally put my square on the table that k had to adjust to a 47 degree pitch just to achieve a proper 45. DO NOT BUY. ... show more

  • Hitachi, should have never sold to metabo!
Style: C12FDHB
I have been using a 10" Hitachi for many years. i wanted to switch to a 12" saw, thinking it would be as good as the 10". First off, the angle detents have way too much play in it. Second, the handle to lift the saw came super loose, and could not be tightened up. Third, the bearing was extremely wobbly, I was not able to make a clean cut for my life withe the saw. I purchased a new blade, and hade the same results. I ended up returning the saw and purchased a 12" Dewalt mitre saw. What a world of difference!! ... show more

  • Cheap parts
Style: C12FDHB
Handle snapped right out of the box. Hubby was trying to move it and the plastic shattered. It's still usable but it wasn't the best feeling. Cuts well and accurately, otherwise seems well done

  • Nice compound miter saw, but look out for QC issues.
Style: C12FDHB
The Metabo HPT 12-inch compound miter saw is a great piece of hardware, although the one I received had a couple Quality Control issues. Overall, this is a great tool that provides a good balance of price to performance. There's a ton of power available, and the LED shadow guide system makes it easy to get a precise cut. ISSUE #1: Action is smooth for the most part except when you press down to make a cut, the saw blade rubs against the plastic table insert (see video included with this review for demonstration of the problem). While this can likely be adjusted, a tool like this from a reputable brand like Metabo shouldn't arrive needing to be adjusted right off the bat. ISSUE #2: In addition to the above mentioned problem, the handle arrived broken as well. Again, not a big deal but I wouldn't expect such issues when purchasing a tool from this brand, and it makes me question the overall build quality as a result. The handle is made with two halves of plastic that are held in place by two screws. The handle received with my unit was broken after being screwed together, with the threads being ripped out from the bottom piece while the screws were still inserted in the top half of the handle. As seen in my photos, its a problem that's easily remedied but why should I have to? At $400 this is pretty sloppy and definitely not what I've come to expect from Metabo tools. FINAL VERDICT: Quality control issues aside, its a great compound miter saw that will see a lot of use on a variety of projects. The saw blade that comes included isn't the best however, so I'd recommend getting a diablo and using that instead. Hopefully Metabo addresses the lapses in quality control. ... show more

  • Clean and Accurate Cuts
Style: C12FDHB
The Metabo HPT line is incredible. This compound saw is an incredible value for all that it provides. Sure, you could find a cheaper 12" inch compound saw but what this saw gives you is well worth the price. You will get accurate and clean cuts with minimal kickback every single time.

  • Why you should buy this miter box...
Style: C12FDHB
OK, you wonder why you should get this Hitachi-now-Metabo (Metabo bought Hitachi Power Tools several years ago) miter box? Let me answer this versus two alternatives: first, why this saw versus a 12-inch sliding compound miter saw; second, this saw versus a similar DeWalt. Why buy this rather than a sliding 12-inch saw? Two simple answers: weight and size. This saw weighs 44 pounds. Amazon lists it at 55, but I think that must be shipping weight. The Hitachi sliding dual compound miter saw weighs 79 pounds. The DeWalt sliding corded 12" saw weighs just a bit less. I have a 12-inch non-sliding DeWalt and a 12-inch sliding DeWalt. The non-sliding DeWalt is in rough shape and nearly thirty years old but I use it far more than the sliding DeWalt because of the hassle of taking the big beast out and setting it up. There is such a difference in size and weight that my wife won't use the sliding DeWalt at all, even as she routinely uses the non-sliding DeWalt. I've read several articles recently in which the authors talk about preferring a non-sliding 12-inch miter saw to a sliding saw for general use. You do lose a few inches of cutting capacity with the non-slidng saw: this saw will do 7 13/16" 90-degree cross cuts while the sliding 12-inch Metabo will do 11 3/16 90-degree cross cuts. You lose about 3.5 inches of cross cut, but you gain a ton of convenience. For years I wanted that big sliding DeWalt. Now that I have it I almost never use it. The only time I used the sliding compound miter saw extensively was when I trimmed out a vacation cottage a few years ago. I set it up on a table, left it in one place for most of the project and found it quite handy. But it might have been just as handy to carry the little non-sliding saw room-to-room. Think carefully about whether you really need a sliding compound miter saw... Second, why buy this saw rather than a DeWalt DWS716XPS (the equivalent DeWalt)? First, the DWS716XPS costs $20 more. You may see the DWS716 at the same price as this and think it's the equivalent DeWalt. It's not. The DWS716 lacks the LED cutline feature this saw includes at the same price. You have to get the $20 more DWS716XPS to get the LED cutline. Second, this Metabo weighs 44 pounds to the DeWalt's 48 pounds, a ten percent weight reduction. This would be no advantage if the DeWalt were more rigid and solid, but it's not. The Metabo is a solid, fine machine every bit the DeWalt's equal. Third, this saw goes to 4300 RPM, making for cleaner cuts and less tearout than the DeWalt which maxes out at 3800 RPM. This is a real difference and a substantial advantage to the Metabo. Fourth, there is a two-degree greater range on miter stops in this Metabo than the DeWalt: the DeWalt goes to 50 degrees left and right, the Metabo to 52 degrees. Not a major difference, but still a Metabo advantage. I like everything about this Metabo. Its LED cutline works well. The saw is solid. It comes with a great 80-tooth blade (which you will want to save for fine cuts and buy a coarser blade for general use). Miters are accurate. The blade is easy to change. You may not see it in the pictures here, but there is a convenient top-side handle. It's behind the motor rather than over it as with the DeWalt, but it works just fine. Overall, I strongly recommend this saw. ... show more
