I really thought this knife set was attractive and I was very glad to open the package when it arrived. I unpacked the very nice block and removed each item to place in my sink to wash before placing them in the block. When I got to the end of the package, I realized it was lacking the scissors. I immediately contacted the seller to advise that the scissors were not included and to please send it. I received a reply from the seller advising they could provide a refund but did not have the scissors. Now, I got the SET because it is RED and all parts of the set were COORDINATED in the same COLOR and STYLE. I said I wasn't interested in a refund - just the scissors. It has now been almost 2 months. I never heard from the seller again. I don't have the scissors. I don't have a refund. I have a specially designed knife block for the specific purpose of housing the coordinated set but am lacking the scissors. The knives themselves are sharp, utilitarian and attractive. I wish I have been sent the entire set as purchased so I could display them as they should be. Were it not for the missing scissors, I would have given this set a 5 star rating. UPDATE: Today I received a complete new set from the vendor complete with block, knives and scissors. It's perfect. I'm no chef, but I'm a good cook and good knives are essential. These knives are sharp (both the blades and in appearance). The set is more versatile than other more expensive sets are. The knives are not overly heavy or unwieldy. The scissors perfectly match the knives and every thing looks great in the block. I wouldn't hesitate to buy the set again as gifts for others. These are great quality at a very reasonable price. Good selection of knives. Was surprised that they added in a bonus scissor. Unfortunately there is no room in the block for it so I keep it sitting on the counter near the knife block. The knives themselves seem sturdy but weren't very sharp when they arrived. And the built in sharpener seems to be designed to keep an edge sharp once you have them sharper. I used my own sharpener to put a good edge on them. And like any knife, do NOT put them in a dishwasher and make sure to hand wash and thoroughly dry them after use. As an admitted cutlery fiend, I’m here to confess that we have three knife blocks filled with exquisite knives. We joyfully own knives from Wusthof, Henckels and Asian names including Mak, Global and Shun. So why a $50 set from the cool name of McCook? This is the first set of knives for our college aged daughter. Read on to see if worth it: Yes, but you should be handwashing all fine knives anyway. Carbon steel will indeed rust and calling these “stainless” can take prospective buyers off track. Pro chefs often prefer soft carbon steel because it sharpens up easily. Avoid any knives that claim they don’t need sharpening. All do, other than anything serrated. I ordered this set particularly for the built-in sharpener. Great idea!
