Description

Makita is the innovation leader in Brushless motor technology, and the 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Brushless cordless 6-1/2” Circular saw (model XSH03T) combines power and run-time for faster cutting and ripping – without the cord. The XSH03T is equipped with automatic speed Change technology, which adjusts speed and torque during operation for optimum performance. The Makita BL Brushless motor is engineered for longer run time, increased power and speed, and longer tool life. The 18V LXT 5.0Ah battery provides 65% more run time per charge than the 3.0Ah battery (BL1830), yet it charges in only 45 minutes – the fastest charge-time in the Category – for less downtime and increased productivity. For added convenience, the batteries feature an on-board L.E.D. Charge level indicator. The XSH03T features extreme protection technology (XPT), engineered for increased dust and water resistance for operation in harsh job site conditions. It’s part of Makita’s expanding 18V Lithium-Ion system, the world’s largest cordless tool system powered by 18V Lithium-Ion slide-style batteries. Makita 18V Lithium-Ion batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger. For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star protection Computer controls. Star protection is communication technology that allows the Star Protection- equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating. For increased versatility, the tool can also be powered by Makita 18V LXT and compact Lithium-Ion batteries with the Star symbol on the battery indicating Star protection inside.

  • Far superior to other Makita models... Superb, well thought out design touches.
Style: Bare Tool, no battery
I've used 4 different Makita 6.5" circular saw models on the job site and can confidently say that this unit (XSH03Z) is far and wide better than the rest. Biggest pluses are: 1) Brushless motor - runs cooler, longer battery life, and translates in to more power. 2) LED illumination - just enough additional light to ensure the cut is on point. 3) 5,000 RPM with automatic torque converter - This extra speed makes a surprising amount of difference compared to the 3,000-4,000 RPM models. The blades cut far smoother and there is far less tear out from your material. It makes a battery powered saw cut and feel like a high power corded saw. The automatic torque adjuster kicks in should your material be extra tough...it drops the RPM's down but kicks up the torque to prevent bogging down / binding. Very nice touch! 4) 45 degree lock on the bevel - there is a nice flip down tab that allows quick adjustment to a rock solid 45 degree bevel cut... As opposed to eyeballing where the 45-degree mark actually is. Nice time saver that ensures consistency. 5) Brake - the automatically engaging blade brake that kicks in after the trigger is released is a wonderful plus. Once you have that feature, you'll never go back. As for negatives, for the price & class of the saw, there really are next to none. However, here are the couple that stick out: 1) for a saw that costs in the 175-200 range, it is a bit ridiculous they don't include the $13 Makita 164095-8 Rip Fence with it. It's not a critical accessory by any means, but it's sometimes nice to have and worth the ten bucks or so. 2) I wish this model had the blower that puffed air by the front area of the blade to improve visibility (like the finish saw model). Not a big issue, but would be nice. In summary, this is a first rate saw in its class. Other than this item, the next real step-up is the Festool track saw (which I own & love like no other)... however, this saw & vacuum combo runs in the $1,500 range and is like comparing apples to oranges. ... show more

  • Best 18 volt circular saw yet!
Style: Bare Tool, no battery
Great little saw, the higher rpm makes a big difference compared to the old models. Easy to read labels and the cast metal parts are a nice feature. No complaints, it performs better than expected. The included blade is doing fine, its just a 24T rough framing blade but its holding up well so far. No worse than any other mid level thin 24T framing blade. Nice cuts, good battery life cutting 2 x material. ... show more

  • Glad I finally bought it
Style: Bare Tool, no battery
I'm a long time fan of the Makita 18 volt platform, I have lots of 5-amp batteries and chargers. . I looked at this saw a long time before I finally bought it. It is SO NICE. Light in weight, no annoying cord and more powerful than my corded Skilsaw. I cut 2x4 and 3/4" PT plywood like a hot knife through butter. I bought the Makita 40T blade and it is great for general use, cuts very smooth in a variety of wood materials. I'm building more structures on my farm since buying this saw. Not having to mess with a cord and having this much power in my hand is addictive. I bought the more expensive of the two models available and I have zero complaints. The guide on the saw is precise so I can just "wing it" on a variety of small cutting jobs and it's perfect. I wondered if the smaller diameter cutting capacity would limit me but it has not been a problem, I've cut everything I wanted. The only way I could be happier is if I could go back in time and buy this saw sooner. Another 18 volt cordless Makita winner! Happy sawing to all! ... show more

  • Exactly as expected from the Makita 18 v LXT Series…Easy to Use, Dependable
Style: Bare Tool, no battery
I am a maker with an insatiable need to create and passions from quilting to carpentry. As a senior female with occasional rowdy bouts of carpal tunnels issues; I tend to choose tools that suit my abilities, don’t present fiddly issues, and will produce the quality I demand. I don’t always want to deal with dragging cords and so the 18 v LXT brushless tools that Makita has developed are the ones I reach for most often. My new toy, Makita XSH03Z 18V LXT® Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless 6-1/2" Circular Saw arrived yesterday late afternoon. I added a fully charged 4.0 Ah Makita BL1840B and got busy. This saw fits my grip perfectly, operates smoothly and had no issues going through either framing or sheet good materials. I did not have the base plate issues that some others have mentioned, at least in the testing that I did last evening. Today I am building a small 5 x 8 porch landing deck and will edit this review promptly if I notice any anomalies. ... show more

  • Perfect size
Style: Bare Tool, no battery
I find this battery powered skill saw a joy to use with plenty of power using my 5 amp batteries. It’s fairly quiet cutting with little to no extra vibration in use. I appreciate the led light and the thin kerf blade is also a bonus. Great addition to my Makita stable!

  • Right size, light and easy to use
Style: Bare Tool, no battery
Relatively light and easy to use. I was able to cut in a clean straight line immediately without any particular adjustment. A disappointing point is that the base part is plastic instead of aluminum. However, there is no problem in practical use.
