  • Can't Replace My Dyson, But Excellent Addition
Style: MACH V1 Ultra
I take my floor cleanliness seriously, which is difficult to do with young children running about. Up until now, I used a Dyson v11 Outsize (using the brush-beater head for carpet, and the "laser slim fluffy" head for my hardwood and stone floors), with a Bissell SpinWave for mopping. Here's the conclusion: this easily replaces the SpinWave, and if you don't have any carpeted flooring, you might be able to have it as your only floor-cleaning device. I value the steam-cleaning mode as an antimicrobial solution, but it doesn't remove some stuck-on messes as I was hoping it would. I don't regret getting the Ultra, but if money is tight, I'm honestly not sure that the steam function is worth it over the standard Mach v1. Compared with the SpinWave, the battery lasts much, much longer. My first floor would use up all of the SpinWave's charge (sometimes I couldn't even finish the entire floor on one charge), while the Mach v1 Ultra seems to not even go below 70%, unless I'm using the steam mode. The SpinWave would show signs of filth on the cleaning pads, but was probably leaving a lot behind. The Mach v1 puts down a small amount of water (and it's up to you if you want it to have cleaning agent infused or not - unlike the SpinWave) and sucks it up. It is incredibly satisfying to empty the filthy water canister, seeing all that grey water. With subsequent cleaning sessions, I can see that the water is not as grey. Compared with my Dyson v11, the Mach v1 is much more limited. While it can be used for carpet, I found the performance to be disappointing. To pick up some items that my Dyson would have gotten with ease, I had to pull the trigger to maximize the suction. This may be a result of having a soft brush head equipped, but carpets are definitely not the Mach v1's strength. Even considering hard floors, the Mach v1 has a slightly harder time cleaning up against corners and edges, as the front protrusion is farther out from the suction compared with my Dyson. It's also not able to reach as far, because the front tips up if you angle the handle too low down. While it's not a particularly difficult device to maneuver, nor is it overly large despite the fluid storage tanks, it's thicker than the Dyson and would need to be angled more aggressively. As an example, I have a coffee table that I could attack from one or two angles and completely clean with my Dyson. With the Mach v1 Ultra I need to go from each side, because I can't completely roll it underneath the table without having the front end (and critically, the suction) lift up from the ground. The reason I give it five stars even though it's not replacing every tool in my home is because I am not considering this as a replacement for a standard vacuum, but as a mop-style device. Purely for hard floors, this picks up more than my Dyson does, and with the steam functionality, offers peace of mind for some sterilization. It's a sleek-looking device that is really an absolute joy to use. If you don't have carpet in your home then I could possibly recommend this over a cordless vacuum cleaner, as long as you don't care to use a vacuum on other surfaces and as long as you don't need to maximize maneuverability around odd furniture. If you already have a cordless vacuum cleaner and are hoping to take floor cleaning to the next level, or want to be able to deal with moist material more easily, then don't mess around with other automated mop-style devices: this (or possibly the standard v1, non-ultra) is the one you need. Update from August 2023: The Mach v1 is still going strong, and I appreciate the steam function a bit more for specialized situations. My children put a large sticker on the floor that left behind a lot of colorful residue. Instead of getting down and scrubbing it away manually, I decided to try the Mach v1. The regular mop didn't work, and an initial pass with the steam function did very little. I then tried slowly moving the Mach v1 over the residue, back and forth, steam-cleaning all the while, and could see that the residue was coming up bit by bit. After about five minutes it was completely gone. I haven't had other scenarios where the steam function was essential and so my original review still stands, but I can now see that does allow you to clean some things that the non-steam version would not be able to. ... show more

  • Good machine
Style: MACH V1 Ultra
I bought this mop to make my daily mopping routine easier. First I would vacuum then I would use a steam mop. I got tired of having to do two steps, dealing with the pads & the cord of the steam mop. So out of all the vacmops I looked at, this seemed like the best choice. I do like that I can vacuum & mop my entire floor all at once. It doesn’t take up a lot of space, the self cleaning function is moderately loud but it only lasts a couple minutes, the drying to can’t hear at all. However, I don’t know if it really it cleans my floors, the first water tank makes it seem like it does (super easy to clean out btw), it left behind a two day old milk spot that would have easily come up with the steam mop I had before. It doesn’t seem to release enough water, the floor still looks practically dry. I have considered that I just need to get used to it, probably move a bit slower, so I’m not counting this against the machine, yet. There are a couple things that I don’t love. First of all it’s heavy, like my arm gets tired very quickly using it. Second it’s only the right edge that truly gets to the edge. The front & the left leave about 1.5 inches, which is kinda inconvenient, but it doesn’t say it has edge to edge cleaning so it’s just something I think they could do better. Also the steam feature is apparently only for small spots, I’ve used it on my entire floor but I have to do it in batches because the steam uses up the battery very fast. & I sometimes get a warning to let the machine cool down & I have to reset it which is kind of a pain. & while I don’t have to switch between a vacuum & a mop, it doesn’t suck anything up while it’s releasing steam so I have to go over the floor twice. So it’s become an all day task since the machine need 2 hours to charge & I have to divide the house into three sections. It gets disconnected from WiFi a lot as well I don’t really know why, it still works just fine you just can’t do anything from the app (not that you can do much with it in the first place). My husband really likes it, he’s a lot stronger than I am so the weight doesn’t bother him & it picked up a raw egg off the floor & that’s good enough for him. Overall I do really like it & I think most of my issues will get better with use. I plan to update my review after I have a better understanding of it. ... show more
